Today's tips from Davey Homemaker

I just made some automatic dishwasher detergent from the following recipe found on the web. People who have used it say it is every bit as effective as Cascade or whatever they had been using previously, and it's much cheaper. Measure the ingredients into any kind of container and shake the snot out of it. I used the now empty Cascade container. Use one tablespoon per load. This will end up being less than 5 cents per load. My Cascade pods were 25 cents per load.

1 cup borax
1 cup washing soda
1/2 cup citric acid powder
1/2 cup coarse Kosher salt
------------------------------------------------
Even bigger savings can be had for the rinse agent that causes dishes to dry streak free.
Use white vinegar OR lemon juice instead of Jet Dry.

I haven't done a load of dishes yet with the DIY detergent, and I'll wait until the rinse agent dispenser is empty before I fill it with white vinegar, but from comments on the web site, there will be no noticeable difference from the much more expensive commercial products. Yes, I'll have to use a tablespoon to fill the soap dispenser instead of just popping in a pod, but that seems insignificant.

@lulu836 YEAH! GREAT to see you back! Hang in there baby, we're with you!

@Mrs C , or should I say "Granny C" (he, he, he) Super awesome on both counts!! Glad everything came out alright for everyone.

@MattB101, Like Iffy said, once this is all over, frame that shirt and hang it as a badge of honor! If you and Mathew do collide, my money's on YOU! That hurricane don't know who it's messin' with!!! ;) :) :D

@everyone who has dissed MacGyver. THANK YOU! Don't need to be wasting no time on crrapp! (said with a heavy brogue) :D And yes, WAY too many remakes of many forms of media!

Now, compose a sentence for me using the words "motorhome" and "camper."
"Motorhome, I don't need no stinking motorhome, I'm a camper!"

I am SO ......ed!! I wanted to put a sig on the bottom that said " I'm into S n M" ....and instead put M n M.....
No worries, I'm into M n M's too! I just love it when it melts in my mouth, not in my hand! ;) :)

She had to feed the birds they were coming up and sitting on the window sill looking in the window at us as if to say HEY we didn't take a day off out here.
This reminds me of an old "Happy Days" episode. Richie was going through his beatnik phase and the bird landed on the window sill. Richie said, "Hey there little birdie with your beak pressed up against the window, We have no food for you today...only death..." then started snapping his fingers. It seems kind of twisted out of context but was hilarious at the time. :D

It's a good thing you've got cell service, Legs. I could never get the guards to bring me anything when I was in the slammer!

Caution on using straight up vinegar as a rinse agent on a regular basis, it's been reported that vinegar can break down the seals in the dishwasher over time. Also, if you find that your homemade detergent clumps or hardens in the container you can always use ice cube trays. Just fill each ice cube compartment about half full of freshly made detergent, let dry out for a couple of days, and you have homemade detergent pods.

If they leave so often, and don't take him, he isn't really a member of the family. If he has separation anxiety with you, he has bonded with you, which means it is not you. Does he greet you with enthusiasm? I suspect that he cleans it up himself, and they don't notice it.

They are only gone maybe 1 weekend a month. He is working in Louisiana right now & she went to see him. So they are with him daily, & with me just a couple of days a month, if that. He is always very enthusiastic with all of us. He's so snuggly & brings his toys over. He probably gets bored with me since I can't play as rough with him or take him for walks to the park.

I've put this behind a spoiler tag in case there is anyone who has not yet seen Episode 2 of Designated Survivor. Those who HAVE seen Episode 2, please go ahead and read what's behind the spoiler button:

The one living person that was found in the wreckage at the end of the episode surely will play a major part, even if he lives only long enough to utter a few words, yes?
Yes.

Hey heres a little known fact at least we didn't know it. If you like feeding the Hummingbirds and watching them. We were watching a show on them and they said if you feed the Hummers you should take your feeder down by Labor Day because the Hummers will stay around as long as you keep feeding them and they will get a late start on their long journey to I believe somewhere in S. America and probably won't make it. So there ya go, take your feeders down by Labor Day or shortly there after and help the Hummingbird population
We take ours down around Oct 1st. I guess we are far enough south that they need to syay up longer for stragglers. I just watch for the end of the natural migration & take it down a week later.

You could get one of those little 1/8th cup coffee measures. They look like a little metal measuring cup. It would be easier to pour into h contain the same amount as a pod.
We've been using white vinegar in the dishwasher for many years. Also use it to set the colors in new clothes, & clean glass. I've stayed in several homes witj the newer HE dishwashersn & washing machines. They always stink horribly! Thinking about taking a npttle of vinegar next time & runming them through a cycle with just vinegar.

With the further explanation, you are probably right. Probably a reaction to boredom. Maybe you and Cathy can figure out an obstacle course to set up in the living room or back yard?

We just put it in the spot where the jet dry stuff goes h it gets diluted from there a little at a time.

Man those Nautilus heads are becoming quite scarce except in China or if you don't pay $12+

Kinda surprised dey haven't dropped in price since dere pretty much recent ol' tech.

BTW, my current NBVC stash isn't lasting as long as others in da past. Hopefully it's just dat one batch!

I get the glass in foot thing sometimes with the MS.
What helps for me is to spend 30 seconds giving soles of feet and calves a quick knuckle massage.
Drats, ya shoulda mentioned sumpin' at da Odyssey! I coulda started wid your toes...

Den I'd have to run a rinse cycle just to get rid of da vinegar 'aroma'! <sorry, Dave...>

Timeless premiers 2 nite. Looks interesting. But... heard that before!

Got it programmed on da DVR. But after viewing da trailers, I have a fear dat it won't surpass MacGyver.

'Time' will tell...

We spent the day yesterday at my son's place. Had lunch, and nice afternoon walk, then dinner. Meet the family:

Left to right: Rachel (preggers w/ son #2), Michael, Janet, Jeannie (Janet's sister)
Middle: Miles Man

3 generations of Michael's (Michael IV, Michael V, Michael III). Mile's name of record is actually Michael. Miles is used to not have 3 heads turn when someone says "Michael".

It washes away completely. There's no odor left.

Me too. It sounds like it might have potential. There's only 1 other show I watch on that channel so I haven't seen previews.

Now, I have heard that people living in Alaska loved it - something to do with the mind numbing cold they live in everyday...:D:lol::lol::lol:
