Wasn't gonna buy a house with a pool. BUT, 'bout a year B4 I retired from da USAF, we came home fer a visit. My in-law's neighbor had a pool and invited us to 'dive in'. After taking two or three showers a day fer two days and being almost immediately 'drenched' again, I decided to take da plunge.

COULD NOT believe how much dat pool pulled out da 'heat' and how refreshed I felt! An AM shower and a PM 'dip' became da routine fer da rest of our stay.

Since our daughters left home, our pool doesn't get hardly any use. But, OMG, when they were home, it was da center of activity most of da year!

With this year's early summer and high temps, my pool guy is using more chlorine than in WWI.

I hear ya. I was not excited about having a pool because it worried me with the kids. Turned out that they used it a lot and they brought their friends. (I'd rather have their friends here so I'd know who they were hanging out with and what they were up to.) But now that the kids are gone we've been busy with other things and it's not getting used much at all. Actually I'm thinking it would make a great garden if we filled it in although I hear Miles does have a bathing suit...

Yepper, birthdays, holidays, back to school & graduations parties, our Brazilian foreign English student's visit, puppy paddle primer & diving lessons (two and four legged), with tiki torches when required, etc. Much of da summer, my girls would live in their bathing suits and pull on 'cover ups' when out & 'bout.

Day-um, thanx fer regenerating da fond memories!!!

I found a yummy sounding recipe the other night a zucchini au gratin. I'm thinking Mr C approved of it since the casserole dish is empty. It was supposed to serve 4 .
Doesn't sound too bad and I really don't care for zucchini. It's not the taste so much as the mouth feel. I like to grill it and squash. Little salt, pepper and olive oil and throw it on the charcoal BBQ grill. Just long enough to soften it a little and put some nice char marks on it. Maybe use a little garlic infused olive oil. Now that is good. Of course in a casserole cheese improves anything. Isn't cheese it's own food group?

Smarty pants. It was more like a swamp pool complete with swamp stink.;)
I'm sure. Growing up down in Daytona Beach we would get occasional frog stranglers, say 5 to 10 inches in as many hours. Neighbor up the street had a huge dip in his side yard that quite literally would turn into a six foot deep pool. We would actually swim in it. Now days folks would be wheezing all over saying about how all the nasty this and that would kill you. Notice I'm still here don't ya!:lol::banana:

Well it's finally officially summer around the house now. Finally opened the pool today. Yikes! It was so humid today, I was drenched like I'd jumped into the pool by the time I got the cover off and started prepping the pool for humans to actually get into it. We're later than most folks to open our pool. I only shoot for July 4th weekend but missed that what with all the kitchen activity the last month.
Swam in ours for the first time yesterday. It was great. The new salt water chlorination system works well. Not enough salt to taste but, it does soften the water and stop it from drying out your skin. I'm running about 2800 ppm right now and they say I won't have to add any unless we get lot's of rain to water it down. You can see the chlorine gas coming off the reaction cell and by the time it actually get to the pool it's all absorbed into the water. I'm not sure how it does it but, the book says it reclaims the chlorine back into salt so you don't lose any. Miracle of modern technology! :) As a side note, those systems used to be outrageously expensive but, this one made by Intex was only around $75. Now for a bigger pool you might need two of them or a larger model. I have a 24ft above ground, that works out to a little over 15,400 gallons.

This is the system with the filter and pump as well under a new cover I made out of some pressure treated lumber and a large outdoor storage container. And of course the pool itself below.

A friend of mine and I built the deck around 20+ years ago. It really needs new decking but, I ain't paying for it. Painted it with that new Olympic Deck Restore stuff and, it looks pretty good don't you think?

Read my post below (above?) about the saltwater chlorination system. HIGHLY recommended!

Tori and her friends absolutely loved it. Had her high school graduation party back in the back yard. One of my buddies gave a $100 graduation present (cash). Damn if he wasn't making me look bad but, since I did foot the bill for the party and give her a car I think she sorta got over it. Probably a case of "whatcha done for me lately!" One thing I can say about Tori is she learned good manners and accepted it very graciously. I miss that kid. She's living in Orlando now and working at Disney. Really proud of her, she has her stuff together for a 22 year old.

So what's the deal with no appetite? Any idea why? Sometimes people eat less in warmer weather than they do in winter, but this sounds like it's more than that.

I wish I could tell you. It's been that way with me for months now. Tuesday I had a sick stomach all day. When I went to sleep Tuesday morning, I woke up with stomach cramps. A couple of trips to the bathroom, and I was all right after that, but the stomach was unsettled. All I ate Tuesday was soup and pudding.

I LOVE food. I used to LOVE to eat. Now, I could care less.

Sometimes when I haven't eaten I get those symptoms. Not eating can really be just as bad and overeating. Of course not sleeping ain't good either and you see what time it is and whose still up. Starting to get a little droopy eyed so maybe it will be to bed shortly. Roto, sorry I've missed you in the H/O the last few times.

I'm beside myself upset this morning. I got in from work, and much to my surprise, my dog was inside the house. Now, that's not what upset me. I know my brother had to have a good reason for putting doggie doo in the house. I looked on my desk, and there was a note from him, and a notice from Animal Control. My brother came to the house yesterday evening like he always does. He found the note from animal control on the door, so he brought Breeze in the house to be on the safe side. Apparently somebody in the neighborhood reported that I left my dog alone for days at a time with no shelter, food, or water.

I was livid!! I'm STILL livid!! Every day that I am at work, my brother comes here to my house. He feeds the dog and makes sure his giant water bowl is full. He plays with the dog. He loves on the dog. I wonder if the neighbor reported that too???

Now I have to call animal control in the morning and explain myself. My dog is happy. He doesn't appear to be stressed. He has shelter. I guess now I'm going to have to give him away, which is going to kill me. I've been doing this for 3 years and nobody ever .....ed before. One of my neighbors told me how good he was when I was gone. He doesn't bark all night. The cat keeps him company. I'm SO beside myself right now.

Hard to like that post. I would wait to get irate until after you talk to animal control.:grr: You know how they work, mostly just worried about the animal's well being. Hopefully once you explain things they will back off. I'll keep you in my thoughts. If you want someone to ..... to, I can meet you in the hangout or I sent you my phone number earlier and you can feel free to call me. Pretty much the only time I don't answer is when I am sleeping. Doree won't let me answer my phone when I'm asleep!

Kay, I'm a big Joe Cocker fan but, have you ever noticed that he looks like he's having a Gran Mal epileptic seizure when he is on stage? Great music, strange looking. Oh well. Talent comes in all sorts of packages. :thumb::lol:
My thoughts exactly, between Joe's singing and Ozzie's talking, we need more interpreters.

You snuck this in while we were in the hangout!:D

I have my moments....about every decade or so:D
Jup I did, and you have those moments often, you should give yourself more credit for em! and no, you definitely don't need a keeper. You do fantastic living alone and doing all that you do!

I knew I should have checked in the hangout this mornin before I went to the grocery...
had enough of it go through my fridge over the years would have told you to go look.
I knew you would know, but didn't know if you were sleeping or not, but it was fantastic how it worked out!

and at age 14 still doing fine. Avatar had to be put down late spring... :( )
(((((David)))))))

My 1st read of your post and I thought you folks were getting quite familiar in the hangout and you were asking her to invite everyone over for some Family Debauchery.
newp apparently the debauchery was a couple days and I missed it.

Honey, I really think you need to see a doctor about all this. You could have some sort of blockage. This has been going on too long. And......grrrrrrr want me to come beat up that nosey neighbor??? Least they coulda done was talk to you first. But try not to get too upset til you know what you're facing. the dog is obviously in good health and being cared for. They can't do anything unless there are signs of neglect/abuse. I would think they'd have to show that and they can't.

Dancin called me earlier , and told me that I could relay what's going on. All prayers are greatly appreciated. She went to the doctor, very fortunately Doc heard something not right, got her to the ER, she's in the hospital and scheduled most likely Friday to have a heart valve replaced, and a single bypass. She felt like she could say it all but not type it all, but wanted y'all to know what's going on. We all knew yesterday that she was in the hospital, but I didn't know til a couple hrs ago exactly what was going on. ((((((Dancin)))))))) our prayers are with you sweetie!! Prayers definitely needed for her anxiety about this, plus safe procedure and speedy recovery.
