:banana:I'm home - have been since Monday, but spent the first three days with my daughter here helping, and lots of time cuddling two traumatized cats. I hadn't been here for a week or two before that because I thought that I had killed my faithful Kindle Fire since it wouldn't charge and they have notoriously fragile charging ports, and I can't type much at all on my phone.

(Computer woes - feel free to skip the next long paragraph if not interested)

First thing (major mistake) that I did was run all of the updates that Windows 8 thought I needed, and when that seemed to work I went ahead and did all of the updates that Norton thought that I needed. Turns out that they didn't play nicely with each other - any internet use caused constant 100% disk usage that I I couldn't get to stop even by completely uninstalling Norton. Obviously I couldn't get online to research what was wrong, or to restore my Norton backup, so I finally ended up doing an Acer "safe" restore to original settings, but with all data files saved (we'll see about that soon) figuring that I could just go ahead with Windows 10 at that point. Good idea, but since original was year and a half old 8, I had to install all of the updates for that, then found out that I still need to go to 8.1 again before I can do 10. Sooo, three days later (I've been dealing with some non-computer things too) I finally got to the 8.1 update, which has been downloading for two hours now and is up to 17%.

(Back to our regularly scheduled story)

But in the meantime, just trying everything, I tried the tablet out since I'd left about 5% charge, and now it is charging! Turns out that both cables I had with me were bad enough to not work on the Kindle, but still do the phone?? But in the meantime I had bought a regular reading type Kindle that I'd been kind of wanting anyhow, but couldn't justify the cost of. Aw shucks. :)

So, I finally got kind of caught up here, skimming kind of fast, so:

Dancing, very happy that you're doing better,
Willie, good to see you're back,
Happy birthday to everyone I've missed,
Welcome to the new folks I haven't formally met yet,
Apologies to anyone I've missed, but I gave up on multi quote after I got to about ten, except that I had to answer:

oh that is soooo gorgeous!! One of the things on my bucket list is to see the aurora borealis and the southern lights maybe, but definitely northern lights sometime. Gonna get off here for a bit and do some stuff. Talk to y'all later

You've got to come to North Dakota. It's really flat on this end of the state - I mean really, as in the picture in my avatar is rolling hills to me - and you can see the Northern lights in full color around three quarters of the horizon. I've lived with it most of my life, and I'll still have to just stop everything to watch on a particularly good night.

Did I mention, I'm home!!! Still not 100%, but getting by.

More to come when I can finally use a real keyboard again. (And apparently in our new home)

I think most missed it. ;)

Or chose to ignore it?

Here jobs are scarce, and I am a bit on the over-qualified side for most available employment here apparently. (I was actually told this - even though I cannot think as to why I would be overqualified to make money in any sense - I am never too good for an income!) but this is where I find myself..

Welcome to the back porch, Chris!

I think their thinking is that, if "over-qualified" you won't be happy in a "lesser" position, and will move on to something else as soon as possible. But in a work starved region, uh, what could that be!

Did I mention, I'm home!!! Still not 100%, but getting by.

HEEHAW!! No more need to stealth vape!!

Welcome back ... Sorry about the computer woes
Hey nice to meet you. I am new to graphics design, spent my life either owning my own business, or in business management, then to E-commerce management.. then my husband wanted to come back home, to the mountains where he was raised - and we moved.

Here jobs are scarce, and I am a bit on the over-qualified side for most available employment here apparently. (I was actually told this - even though I cannot think as to why I would be overqualified to make money in any sense - I am never too good for an income!) but this is where I find myself..

I had all the photoshop set up and all this free time, and I had been playing around in photoshop anyway, so I decided to use my time wisely and perfect some skills - I love it anyway, so why not? And this is where I am at.

As a business oriented person anyway, I have a business plan already mapped out - but I feel I need to improve still, so I am planning on waiting for another year to start my own graphics design company. In the meantime, I am entering various contests and doing as much as possible in it, so that I become ubber great..

then I will enact my business plan, and off I will go. With an average of 2 - 3 years to build a customer base, I am the poor child. Hubby loves supporting me though - I don't think he has ever been happier than he is right now..

he actually looked at me the other day and said he missed the pitter patter of little feet and perhaps we could get pregnant again.. hahahaha.. He is so silly, he just likes me being here and is looking for excuses, not that I blame him this is kind of fun!

But yeah, the whole subscription thing to Adobe is ridiculous - on that I do agree!

Yeah! You found our back porch too.

Day-um, went to da 'office' fer a lil' bit and come back to a stack of posts I must respond to!

I'm drinking this in your honor: Everclear, vinegar with the mother, water, mint and a couple of black olives at the bottom.

Sure am hoping dat 'mother' is your euphemism fer tequila! Oh wait, Everclear?!?!?

They have no clue how much it will work, if at all, or how long it will last. Could be a month, could be forever.

Kenna, you have no idea how many porchers are 'pulling' for you and praying for the best! At least you're on your first leg of a 'give no quarters and full speed ahead' course. <day-um, just too many saltss on da porch>

Now there's a mental picture I didn't need! :lol::shock:

Too late! Would ya say da same if it was buttered buns?
mock.gif

Another mental image I didn't need!

VA psychiatrist - "Matt, can you recall when you first were traumatized by flour and buttermilk?"
BigGrin-1.gif

.. maybe I need a 12 step program to help me spend money!

psssst... Ya graduated to step ten when ya hit da porches! BUT, step eleven is to ask questions, and no one here will lead ya astray. Ya may have to reevaluate where ya are in your vaping and where ya want to be. Regardless, you'll be able to make prudent but informed choice$. THEN, step twelve is keeping your hubby happy!

BTW, many here have survived the $hinyiti$ infliction and are quite happy where they are. OTOH, we also have porchers that just can't resist a new device or technology to plunder their wallet$.

IOW, we'll watch out fer ya!

I think most missed it. ;)

Ummm, think ya are underestimating our family members (don't go dere... oh, too late)!

As far as sea men, they're more familiar with decks, not floors...

- so what new topics can we bring up in the next round...

Ooo, oh, how 'bout a letter of da week! BTW, 'H' is next... Twenty-six letters, fifty-two weeks... a match made on da porches, twice!

:banana:I'm home - have been since Monday

Did I mention, I'm home!!! Still not 100%, but getting by.

Kinda wondering what da diff is twix 'being decked' vs. 'I'm floored' means now...

Yeah.. when they came up with that bright idea it was enough to make you want to give up adobe period.. but then, not much else equals it in the areas that Photoshop is great in.. so you end up kinda stuck.

The messed up factor is going to come in when Microsoft does it.. and they are about to. Photoshop to my knowledge does not run on Linux and this is going to create a huge issue - because I plan on boycotting ;)microsoft at that point.
Not much difference between 5.5 and what they have now. I've had five at work so naturally I have it at home.

North of 30,000$ ???? You are really looking for high-end ones, then!

I suspect my finger stuttered on the zero key, cuz this doesn't sound like auto correct in action. For 30,000 I would expect a new head and I'm not sure I could justify the expense. Thanks for the help. I'm not sure I'm retaining every bit of it, but it's sort of coalescing into some kind of general knowledge. It'll probably work out like selecting a new tank; do all the research, make a decision, and walk into the vape shop and confidently point to something under the glass and say "I want the red one".

This is a general "about me"

I am old darn it, (46) set in my ways. But not so much so that I do not invite change from time to time once I weigh my options and give full consideration.

I LOVE graphic design. Its wonderful, and often I get very one track minded. I took a three day break from a project that I will have to get back to (but I needed the breather!) but once I get back into it I often forget most everything else.

Someone last week asked my husband how I was doing and where I had been, and he replied, "she is chained to an installation of Photoshop, but doing well".. lol.. that is me.

So if I pop out and you don't see me for a week or two, no worries I am just chained up! hahaha

I am the original tightwad (one of the things my husband loves about me! HA!) and the older I get the worse it gets.. maybe I need a 12 step program to help me spend money! hahaha.. unusual for a woman my husband thinks, but its my role in life, what I am good at!

I love to cook, and spend time with family, go hiking, do photography, and all manner of other things! I am me, and my name is Chris..

Nice to meet everyone!

Welcome to the Back Porch Chris!! So, you've been vaping for a year - isn't it wonderful??? Did you ever think you'd be able to say you haven't had a cigarette in a year? Woohoo!!

SO glad to hear you're home!! Your kitties are probably thrilled that you're back! Too bad you couldn't tell them how badly you would rather have been there with them! Now don't go trying to do too much!

Sorry you're having computer problems and I hope it'll get straightened out soon. I was having some trouble with mine until last Thurs. when it became unusable. Turns out it needs a new hard drive so it's in the ICU waiting for the transplant. Mike is nice enough to let me use his laptop in the meantime. The one good thing about not having my laptop here is that I have more time for cooking. Made bread and a new cookie recipe today.
