Janet, for four years now I've had a french door fridge with a freezer on bottom and as far as functionality goes I love it. Having the ability to open just one or both doors of the fridge without having any vertical division of the shelf space is pretty handy. Having a bottom freezer took a little getting used to, but with the top baskets it's pretty easy to keep organized. I skipped the through the door ice dispenser, too expensive at the time, but the icemaker is about knee level, so not that big a deal. I love the way it looks in the kitchen too. One thing I looked for was making sure the bottom freezer drawer felt solid and well balanced on the gliders, they're heavy to start with, load them up and they're really heavy. Keep in mind the space you'll be putting it in, I was surprised by how much taller it was than my old fridge. Also wanted to add that curious little boys seem fascinated with the freezer door, especially if they know there's a popscicle in there, and they don't always shut the drawer all the way.![]()
My son and dils new house has this kind........SIL has the kind with freezer on the bottom, but only one door on top. And hers dings at ya if you don't shut the door, but you won't hear it unless you're right next to it. Jup that freezer drawer does get heavy, but it slides pretty easy. things can get lost down in the bottom, but she keeps her packed way more than it should be for that type. not sure if I'd like the french doors or single door better, I'm sure with french I'd forever be opening the wrong door. lol But I love the large shelves being up higher.
