To all in the hangout tonight. I had a great time. Thanks for not grumping about me monopolizing the conversation. I try not to but, have always talked to damn much. We should set up to do this on a regular basis. I would rather do it on a Friday or Saturday night but any night that is good for everyone is good with me. Goodnight all, i will see you in the morning. To quote Spock "You are and always will be my friends!"

I thought it was pretty neat to put faces and voices to names. I enjoyed myself to the utmost!! I wasn't worried about you talking. I learned things tonight. :) I don't know about anybody else, but I had a GREAT time!

If you don't savvy why you can't get a young employee to be loyal and motivated for $10 an hour, I ask: how committed to the job were you when working for $1.50 per hour in 1967?

You could buy MORE with $1.50 in 1967 than you can buy today with $10.

For anyone who doesn't savvy why they can't get a young employee to be loyal and motivated for $10 an hour, I ask you this: how committed to the job were you when working for $1.50 per hour in 1967? $10 today has LESS buying power than $1.50 did in 1967.
Hey I was making $3 an hour well not then I was in the Army for about $120 or so a month. Big bucks. Of course all the meals, living quarters, clothes were all paid for even the laundry and some of the places I was stationed at had some pretty darned good food too. I just had to pay for beer and cigarettes a quarter for beer and 20cents a pack for smokes.Oh and all the medical and dental everything damned near except snacks. Hell we had it made and didn't know it.

Had fun in the hangout. I tend to talk and be social more with fewer people, but at least I got in a rimshot ot two. :)
I'm also glad the the myth of only being able to fit 5 people in was false. We had up to 7 at one point before I had to go.
Really enjoyed seeing people again, and for the first time. Hope my PC gets fixes so people can put a face to the name soon. Backup PC camera just don't work.

I think 10 is the limit with video not sure it is the same if it is just audio.

I did too!!

One of my first jobs I only made 2.10/hr in the late 70's but I still cared about my job and did a good job.

We had up to 7 at one point before I had to go.
I've never heard you could only do 5. I wasn't sure if we could have 9 or 10 but at one point for just a bit we did have 10 in there.

Cl, was great to see you hun! just wish you would have jumped in more. And it was sooooo great to see Semi!!

that somehow, the youth of today will manage to find a way, just as we did.

The youth of today have no good examples to emulate and even if they did they are too lazy to follow them. I personally have heard more than one kid tell another that they had a job interview but refused the job because it was "entry level". They want a position.

Good morning, everyone! Sounds like all y'all had great fun, last night! Wish I had been able to join you ...

After a glorious, sunshine-y day, we had vicious thunderstorms; debris everywhere. Whew! From one year to the next, I forget the intensity of spring/summer storms and am amazed anew. This is my favorite weather - 'though walking the dogs in the evening can be a bit of a challenge. None of us loves getting drenched :)

Hope everyone has a great day! Today is my quarterly "Look See" appt. Hoping for good news!

Minimum wage rose above $2.10 an hour starting Jan 1 1976. (In 1975, minimum wage was $2.10 an hour). By Jan 1 1979 minimum wage was $2.90 an hour.

If today's youth have no good examples to emulate, that's saying their parents did not set good examples. And who are their parents? The finger of guilt points pretty quickly back at you and me, which makes it pretty hard to claim that we had some magical qualities that made us superior to subsequent generations. Yet, there's a great tendency for every generation to feel that they are uniquely superior.

Every generation also tends to believe that they had it tougher than any other generation. That's been going on forever.

I am glad that I don't think like that. I don't have to, and I ain't going to.

I was likely an exception. My 1st job paid $1.10/hr and I would have taken less to work there. It was a full service gas station and the young owner had the reputation for building the fastest cars in the area. Probably spent as much time working on is 'hot rods' as I did customer's cars. It was fun 'and' I got paid.

Nope ... I had it much easier coming out of college. Most of us had multiple job offers and we just ignored any that were less than $9K per year. Which was good money in 1969. I think my 1st job paid 2x what my Dad was making after years of being a union OTR truck driver. The job market was the pits when my son and his friends were looking for jobs after graduation. I think that was 2000/2001 timeframe.

I use 'My Yahoo' as one of my home pages, and it is 'temporarily unavailable. Mail is working, though!

Anyone else?
I don't use it as a home page but I just checked and it's working fine for me.
