But I really hate the memory of that powdered milk.

Maybe later on I'll tell my tale of Iffy's milk history. Too tall a tale to tell while I gotta get grub gathered fer supper (BTW, in my youth, dinner was a Sunday event after church, or a formal celebratory meal!).

... milk and bacon are too good to give up.
Just wish da FDA, FSIS and CDC would make up my mind (OK... dat's BS on my part

Had to call in sick today. Well, didn't HAVE to. But, the car wouldn't start, and it was too late to take the bus and still be on time. Might as well go all the way if I'm already going to be well over an hour late!

Haven't even been reading all my subscribed threads lately. Posting, not at all. Life is just a bit overwhelming right now. Of course, I'm easily overwhelmed!

The apartment manager let us know today that we can pick up the keys for the new apartment either late Friday or early Saturday. They don't know for sure which yet. They've finished the repairs. Putting in new carpet today, and painting tomorrow. Or, something like that.

I wish I could have called in on Saturday instead of today! But, I'm not really a necessary part of the main moving process anyway. I can't lift and go up and down stairs like the youngins. But, I sure can empty boxes and arrange things as they bring them in. That would have been fun.

On the other hand, I'll be out of my daughter's way while she's in gung-ho mode. So, that's the bright side.

btw I never graduated 5th grade.

Neither did I. 'Dey' shoved me up to da 6th grade six weeks into my 5th. Dey musta known sumpin' in dat my grades went from Bs, Cs & a D to As, Bs & a C. I use dat as an excuse fer my continued immaturity...

So, that's the bright side.

Always try to find da bright side! Da alternate sux...

When my mother felt a financial pinch, she would dilute milk in the carton, and add cheaper dry milk, still in the carton. We never knew the difference.
I am so sorry, folks. I actually let a typo go. This is embarrassing.

I left soon after posting it, and was gone all afternoon.

Sunday dinner at our house was a big deal as well. Always had a croud. Of course I can't remember ever having less than 10 or 12, sometimes as many as 20 for dinner most days, not just Sunday. But, Sunday was always the formal one, or as formal as it got in the Bode household. In case you all are wondering it's pronounced Bo Dee. I've always been able to tell when someone called that didn't know us, either strangers or telephone solicitors. They would always as if this was the Bode (as in Toad) residence. I would say nope and hang up.

Umm I think you typoed there. "I always ate my sisters" Maybe a comma?
Nope.
I think you meant an apostrophe? Sister's, not sisters? Funny how that line just stopped at the end of that sentence with sisters and put more emphasis on actually eating her sisters. Funny. As long as I know what was meant I don't usually pay much attention.
Depends on how many sisters.
Single sister - sister's
2 or more - sisters'
Hehehe

I did but, not the sixth. Actually did that one twice. Grades were ok but, they didn't think I was "emotionally mature" enough to move up to junior high school. Really sucked but, didn't bother me until 11th grade when all my friends graduated a year ahead of when I would have. I quit school in the middle of the eleventh frade and went into the Navy. Best decision I ever made. Got a GED, highest score on the GED exam in the state of Virginia that year, and went onto get nearly the equivalent of a Masters in Military Sturdies and a minor in International Affairs. I did get Bachelors of Science in Military Studies. Missed the Masters by going to war. Desert Storm. I was the Space and Electronic Warfare Commander for Amphibious Squadron 2. Actually wrote the deception plan for the invasion of Kuwait.
Stopped into the Hangout a few minutes ago and was the only one there. Where is everybody tonight. Oh well, must be fate that I have to go watch the "This Old House Hour". Normally wouldn't miss it but, it's a repeat now. You know, summer repeats.:nah:

ADORABLE!!!! Please feel free to post videos anytime!

I had also switched to 2% for years, since for the amount of milk that I drink I figured that I could do without the extra calories. Then when I was on dialysis I had too high a phosphorus level. So I got this really long list of foods that I could only have a tiny total of each day. Almost all dairy products were high in phosphorous, but for some reason the higher the fat level was the lower the phosphorus level. So to get maximum volume and enjoyment out of the minimal amount of dairy I could have, I was forced, forced, I tell you, to go with whole milk and ice cream.

And then I was reminded again of how much better whole milk was, and decided that life was too short to lower the quality of one of my favorite foods. I've never gone back. Whole milk and bacon are too good to give up.

So good to hear from you!!! I've been wondering how you're doing. Please keep us updated when you can!

Milk:

Can't remember ever being weaned, hence... ummm, never mind...
Used to dunk white bread in milk as an after school snack (yum). Actually, dunked a bunch o' stuff in milk.
Got stationed in da PI ('66), military powdered reconstituted milk. Couldn't even stand what dey called chocolate milk. Gelatin brews became a necessity. 'Bout dat time, became a fan of malts & hops as a fav. Alas, not served in da chow hall...
Got stationed in 'Nam ('67), new formula; reconstituted concentrated liquid milk. Chocolate I could enjoy; white, noper, no way!

Since then, I'll drink chocolate milk, but never whole white, nor any percentage thereof. I'll suck down a couple of Yoo-Hoos six-paks before I'd ever consider white milk!

Oh, buttermilk? Fergeddaboutit! Should only be used in biscuits, pancakes and kickazz batters!

BTW, how in da world does one determine when buttermilk goes bad?
