Well i sure feel foolish advising a computer tech even though i didnt know that's what you were.[emoji99]

Speaking of backups. I backup everything on two flash drives since they too can sometimes malfunction.
We have lots of 'puter people here!

That is a Fed bill. Steve is talking about the 40% tax in PA. The committee passed it. It hasn't moved in the Senate yet.
Jup, I know it's the bill introduced to replace the 40% PA tax with 5 cents per ml I believe.

I said the tax was passed and it has been repealed waiting on a vote.
I think it is your wording stating it has been repealed that most seem to be interpreting the same way.

Ok boys.......disagreement is fine, but none of us need to get ugly, this isn't the place for it.

Good morning! ☀️

Happiness is a mug of strong coffee and a cinnamon danish vape :)

Can someone please remind me what gauge SS wire to get? Usually I use 26ga kanthal, and build to .6 ohms. Should I get the same ga SS wire? As well, it is Temco 316SS, yes? Thanks!

316L is what I keep seeing & what I got. I use 28g just like I used with Kanthal. Remember that SS ends up lower than Kanthall.

 Sounds like I need to go get me a mug of strong coffee!

As to the SS wire, my go-to wire right now is 26g SS316L what I have is UD, but Temco is probably better from what I've heard. I only ordered 30', so when I start getting low, I'll probably order Temco next time. Even with the 26g, it's pretty easy to hit 0.5-0.6Ω with a single coil. About 5-6 wraps on 3mm mandrel should get ya there, if I'm figuring it in my head correctly. I've got dual SS coils in my Mage that are 3mm with 5-6 wraps, and it ohms out at 0.26Ω.

Thanks, @Kenna and @Kaezziel. I switched from 28ga kanthal to 26ga because I found the 28 to be too springy. It was hard to work with. Is SS equally springy?

Kaez, I'm usually wrapping on a 2.5 mandrel. I have some small attys and 3mm is dicey. Can I still get to .5ish?

I'm using 9 wraps on 2.5 & 1.1 -1.3 spaced. It's so springy that the coils don't come out at 2.5, probably more like 3.0 because of the way the wire fits in the coiler. But it gets me where I want to be.
I got a small roll from FT to try it & liked it so much I got 250' from Temco.

Well, according to Steam Engine, you'll need about 8 wraps on a 2.5mm mandrel to get to 0.5Ω, so that should still be doable. To me, the 26g SS seems to hold it's shape well. I wrap mine around a jeweler's screwdriver; I trap one leg under my finger, then wrap tightly. Once I've got all of my wraps on there, I take a pair of pliers and pull the free leg as tight as I can and do an extra half-wrap and adjust out any extra springy-ness. (hope that makes as much sense in words as it does in my head ;) )

I leave my mandrel inside the coil while I install it into the atty. That way I can tighten down one leg and then pull the other leg tight to keep my I.D. where I want it. Then, wrap that free leg around the post a little bit so that it doesn't pull back at all, and tighten down the screw. Even later on, after using it for a week or so, I pull the wicks to dry burn the coil, and the mandrel still fits perfectly inside the coil. That's the way I've been doing mine for quite a while now. :)

Cripes and crimminy! That's a lot of wraps!!! How on earth would you do dual coils?! My dual coils are .36-.38 ohms...

My dual coils are almost always 3mm, and the total resistance is closer to 0.25Ω. ;) I don't worry too much about how low it is with SS, because I almost always run them in TC mode. Except the Stumpy... that one is single coil at around 0.5Ω, but it is also a 3mm coil. I'm trying to think of any attys that I'm running duals smaller than 3mm, and the only one I can think of is the Nipple... it needs to be rebuilt today, so I'll pay more attention to how I build it and report back later this afternoon on that one.

Thanks, darlin'. I have dual coils in a couple of Nuppins (18mm attys). Prolly I could run singles, but I'm loving the flavor and vapor with duals. No TC; CC mods, which are mech all the way :)

It's hard for me to manipulate everything with my funky hands. I have to wrap on a coiler, I take that out, & put a longer mandrel in, & use that for the install. The coiler gives me slightly spaced coils with the SS, a little bigger than 2.5. I could use a pait of needlenose pliers & pull it tighter on the mandrel, but that ends up lower than I want to be. 1.1 is almost too low. 1.3 - 1.5 is my happy place with my juices & flavor in my KF's & RM2.

I was just thinking about that, today. I had a chemo brain moment, and couldn't remember how to calculate nic for a juice recipe. I had to use an online calculator - one of the few available for Mac/iOS users. Which got me wondering whether juice recipes and calculators will be available in two years. I think I may create a spreadsheet to do the calcs, just in case.
Or you could use the one we worked on for a few weeks earlier this year....

No link to a spreadsheet.
heh - see above for one.

I don't have a link so take it for what you will. I think it was on Facebook. That the ceramic coils are not safe. Again, no link makes it rumor, but I have concerns about them. If I can find the story I will post.

I know you are not picking on me Kaez. Wish I could find the article. Heck, I don't even know how recent it (the article) was actually. It is true these alerts or whatever seem to cycle around. So maybe it wasn't even the latest info. I know I read something recently, but it may be heresay.

I am happy with my kanthal or SS coils, but that's me. Others are very welcome to try other things and if it works for them, fantastic. I just don't want anyone in harms way.

This may help with that one.

Good Morning dwellers on this crisp cool morning. Left my coffee cup outside on the back patio and got a wake up from how chilly when I went outside for it! In the 40's today and only predicted to be in the high 50's.
Not ready for that kind of weather yet. Luckily, it'll be a few more weeks before I have to worry about it though it is starting to get down in the 50s at night this week.
