Happy day if you're not a turkey! :w00t:

A brisk overnight low or 25, but maybe up to 40 later. At least the storms flowed around, and not on us!

The rain finally stopped yesterday afternoon so after dinner we piled our 1 and 3 year old grandsons in the car and headed out to a nearby house with a huge Christmas display. They were mesmerized by all the lights. I love the displays, but can't help but wonder how long it took to put it all together and take down. They must store all that stuff off-site. I sure do appreciate all their hard work. As a kid I remember my father taking us for a ride down to a street in Philadelphia. Everyone in the townhouses on that street went all out with Christmas light displays and people came from all over to see it. It was fantastic.

Oh, I love to see the sparkle in the their eyes......they are like little angels.....for the time being, anyway! ;)

On our way to the symphony last night, we saw a few homes, but then had to head to I-95 to Jax! We make a point of it to see neighborhood lights each year with the grandkids.

We're looking forward to seeing the St. Augustine Nights of Lights which runs from Nov. 23 until February. It is a prime attraction to the city each year, although anytime in St. Augustine is magical......so blessed we live only 40 minutes away!

Of course in South Philly . . . Right? :thumb:

 Do you remember which street?

For those who do not know . . . . In Philadelphia, during the holidays, some displays where better then others, because everyone who lived on that street/blocks participated (even if they didn't want to - Just Sayin' . . . ;) ) . . . However, there was never ever any competitions between neighbors - Ya' right . . .

Oh and BTW: South Philly is a major Catholic Area (think Roman Catholic Italians) that is very much involved in showing their "Love" of the church/season . . . When I lived in Philadelphia (1990 - 2002 South Philly & Center City), no matter. where you lived in Philadelphia, during the holidays it didn't matter where you where - there was a display of lights with-in a couple of blocks, if not every block in a number of different neighborhoods . . . BTW: Always thought "Boathouse Row" was a great place to visit too . . .
(christmas displays in philadelphia pa neighboorhoods - Google Search )

The same could be said of a number of other areas in PA, especially Bucks County, including New Hope's Main Street, Doylestown and Oh and then there is Peddler's Village (Shopping Center w/Resturants in the middle of the country side) too . . .(Christmas in Peddler's Village Kicks Off for 2019)

AH - The Memories, Thank You . . .

(It's disappointing where I live now, the Owner/Managment of the property no longer allow anyone to put up decorates outside their apartments, even during the holidays . . . :( :-x Thankfully, there are enough people in neighborhood that do . . . :D  )

Oh my Uncle, did you ever hit the nail on the head with your post.......
I was born and raised in South Philly until the age of 17 when we moved to Montgomery Co.....Huntingdon Valley.

We actually lived in NE Philly for a number of years, and the displays there tried to rival those of South Philly, but were a close second.

My thoughts are all over the place with this.....Boathouse Row.......East River Drive.....New Hope, Peddler's Village!!!!

O, the memories!!! So precious! Now we are making new memories...

No, don't remember the street, but there were several streets that had really incredible displays. The lights would arc clear across the street. I remember when I got older there was news reports of streets giving up on it because new people moved in and just weren't into it. It was sad to see that end. And yes, there were some pretty great displays in Bucks County too. The Phila ones were the ones I was particularly attached to because we went to see them as a family.

Ah, thanks Mike!
My heart did a lil thump thump and tears started to swell, especially Boat House Row!

Years ago when we picked up our German exchange student from the Phila airport we drove by Boat House Row to show her the lovely site. It was totally dark! Evidently they were doing repairs. 6 weeks later while taking her back to the airport they were still out. So, I ended up getting her a post card with the nice picture of what it was supposed to look like. A week after she left we had to go down again and sure enough, all the lights were back on!

How unfortunate that she couldn't see it in person! But, a postcard is good in that she can put it in a scrapbook of memories!

Heck, we had "annual" visitors for a few years who swore Mt. Rainier didn't exist, since every time they visited it was hidden by clouds :)

My sister lived in Florida and had told me about the armadillos. Never, in all my visits, had I seen one so I used to tease her that they were all in her imagination.

Speaking of not seeing landmarks. When we moved our daughter home from California we wanted to stop at the Grand Canyon since she'd never seen it. Well, we stopped, but she still hasn't seen it. A snow storm hit just before we arrived and even standing right on the rim we couldn't see 10 ft in front of us. Total white out!
