Well that's good that there's a lot of
Pretty well covered, but some additional info.

Wire gauge is counter-intuitive at these sizes. It defines the diameter of the wire, but goes backward. 26 is a bigger diameter than, say, 30.

Gauge / diameter (along with material, of course, so for this just keep thinking all the same material, kanthal, ss, whatever) determines the resistance (ohms) of the wire. The bigger the diameter, the lower the resistance for the same length of wire.

So you don't have a wire that's 1.5 Ω unless it's cut to the precise length needed depending on the wire gauge.

A coil will have a length of wire, but we don't usually measure it out. We build to a given ID and number of turns. The bigger the ID, the more wire it takes to get a given number of turns to the coil. Keeping the same ID and number of turns, you'll get a lower final resistance with a bigger gauge (smaller number, remember ;) ) than with a higher gauge (bigger number.)

So it's really just you deciding what resistance you want to vape at, and what size wire. Plug those into any of the mentioned calculators, and plug in the ID coil you want, and they'll spit out how many turns you need.

Leg length is, of course, part of the total length of the coil. Some calculators ask for it (they should!!). Just estimated the length from the end of the coiled part to the terminal post, for each end, of course, and add that in.

Being a tootler, and not liking the ramp up/cool down time of the bigger wires, I build all my coils with 30. (Although I do use 32 for Kanger single bottom coils, to get the resistance I want. Then again, been a long time since I've vaped

Thanks. I've read it many times but this time it makes sense.

My mixing station is in the basement next to the slop sink. I have a PVC Board that I use on top of the washing machine which is a great table at a good height. The worst I ever did was stuck my finger in PG thinking I did not dry out the beaker tasted it to make sure. Did not taste good at all and PG is supposed to carry flavor but did not taste very good to me.

No I wasn't vaping it I stuck my finger in my mouth to taste if it was water in the beaker! Can you say Surprise! I can't see vaping unflavored myself but I may mix up an ML one day just for the heck of it to try unflavored. Can always drop in some flavor if it is that bad. Can't honestly say what it will taste like but I can imagine.

Yup, you'd said you tasted out of the GC.

I have a lot of tanks and mods going at all times, all with different flavors. Since, when cleaning and rewicking, I may not know what flavor will be next, I use unflavored in my usual nic and ratio to prime the coils. To me, not a bad taste, but not something I'd care to vape for long. (And when whatever flavor I filled with starts to come through, I'm pretty sure it's wicking well :) )

I've been wanting one of those for quite awhile! But don't NEED it so it always goes on the back burner.
I love mine. Perfect with SS coils. Just pulse them a couple times and they are clean. The resistance is usually a little different then my DNA's but really doesn't matter to me. I just wrap a coil so when spaced fits good and wicks good. Resistance is kind of a non factor with TC and DNA. I usually just use a 6 wrap but thinking of trying 7 for a little more coverage on the K5 I don't like to get it too big then it won't wick right. I alway wrap at 3mm ID always spaced. I don't know for sure how long you can keep pulsing them like how many times. I usually change them after 3 or 4 times. I wish they would stay shiny and silver like they do when you first put them in but they get sort of blackish still vape the same.

Morning!

This will prolly be a "Yup. Knew that." for most of y'all, but I thought it was a good tip. (Provided by Aaron of local B&M fame)

If you test fire a coil on a regulated mod, set the volts to 3.7 and then to 4.2 and fire at each setting. This will tell you watts for that coil on a mech (assuming parallel). I thought this was pretty cool!

Yup, intuitively obvious ... but it hadn't occurred to me! :)

I know nothing about these, but wouldn't a ceramic wick be similar to readyxwick? Have you tried dry burning the wick if that's the case??
I haven't tried that yet, Deb. Thanks for the idea. I'll let you know what happens.

Huh, never have that problem with rayon... ;)
Rayon has been my go to wick for over a year. Thought I'd give ceramic a spin since I have an atty that needs heads instead being an RTA. So far, it's the pitz.

When I first started vaping, I vaped 24mg unflavored. At the time, I didn't think I would like any of the flavors. Boy, things sure have changed in the year and a half since then. lol

yw, LIS I have never even seen em, but google readyxwick and if it looks like that you might be able to dryburn with the wick in there. Someone more familiar with em might know for sure
