These are part of a family of grippers called Optical Wrenches, Lens Wrenches, or Filter Wrenches. Only the largest section of the one pictured really works well. The smaller sections might improve grip a little. But when made like the large end and lined with quite hard material, these can give a very strong grip without crushing fragile objects like the lens-retaining rings and screw-on lens filters used on cameras. The problem is that they must be made to fit the exact size of the object you wish to "wrench".These solved my 88 year old Mom's problem opening jars. The small end works for atomizer coil deck removal. You get grip AND leverage.
I have a set that covers from about 1" (25 mm) to 4" (100 mm); there are about 50-60 wrenches in the set as these wrenches will only span a range of a couple percent. (e.g. 25 to 25.5 mm, 26 to 26,5 mm, 27 to 27.5 mm, ... 95 mm to 97.5 mm, 98 to 100 mm). They are made from phenolic resin (quite hard) with no soft liner, and really grip tightly without crushing. (Unfortunately, I can't find them at the moment, or I would post a picture of the set.) They will grip an aluminum lens ring up to 4" (100 mm) diameter but only 1/16" (1.6 mm) thick without crushing it, and deliver an amazing amount of torque.
I have several like this. In an attempt to make one wrench fit a larger range, these are made with soft or deformable liners. This does extend the range a bit, but at the expense of making them MUCH more likely to crush fragile objects and having much less grip. Again, only the section farthest from the handles gives much of a grip, and only over a limited range, plus about 1/4 of the circle is unsupported and may deform. The sections farther away from the big end grip only from two sides and either crush the object or don't get much of a grip.
Between the grip pads and the long one above my Mom swears by it. She uses it to open olive jars all the way up to mayonnaise jars. She grips it over the opening she's using and uses the handle for center leverage. That way she's squeezing tight on the lid and using both sides of the tool for leverage. Hers is lined with hard rubber (the darker part) from one end to the other.
In the past she saved jars until I stopped by to open them. I haven't had to open a jar for her in a couple of years since I bought her this.

Walmart. I have seen them in Dollar General. There's lots of versions in the search below. Some are in stock in your store and others are online order only.

I have an undercabinet opener similar to this. It will even open a giant pickle jar! There are others like this that are hand held. They use a hacksaw blade to hold the jar lid. It's a wonderful thing, but not for tanks.

Same here, except now half the time *I* have to use them to open my mom's jars
Which I did just a few minutes ago, for a jar of mushrooms.I absolutely must have that one handed one. I've had one of these in the past and it broke down and I never could find another one. Or I could just go with Dave's method which seems okay as well. Thanks a lot for the help guys
Seperating tanks. If you still have the hand grip strength, but need a little friction to grip it, I put a 'vape band' on each section, and it was enough to give me a grip on the slick tank.

We should put together an ECF band! I mean, not that I'm a musician, I do have a guitar that I pull out and bang on occasionally, but it's not really what you'd call music.

Well, I started out thinking of pieces of hose, and my eye lit on the vape bands, and there ya go!
I used to have one of those rubber pads known as a 'cap snaffler', but I have no idea where it went.

Sombody told me one time, and I find it works more often than not, is if you get a REALLY stubborn jar lid, apply force to TIGHTEN it first, then try to back it open. Surprisingly effective... sometimes

FWIW, my old Efest LUC V4 charger finally experienced a failure after years of use. The spring broke on the circuit board feeding the left hand bay. It still charges on bays 2, 3, and 4, but I broke down and ordered a new one from Ebay for $21.99. For that price it isn't worth cracking open and getting out the soldering iron. The case is glued together. Those springs are hooked into the circuit board and soldered in place, then hooked onto the slide. The other 3 bays have gotten similar use, so I can see 3 more opportunities for bay failure!
In my searches, I discovered that there are clones out there being sold as Efest charger products and buyers report that they fail pretty quickly. I found an Ebay seller that guarantees the product in the original sealed packaging with UPC code and warrants it to be an original Efest LUC V4 new 2018 version. Trusting soul that I am, I ordered from that seller. He advertises himself as an authorized Efest distributor and displays the charger in an Efest box.
Lots of products go out the back door into a van in Chinese factories during night shift, according to some articles I've read. They are supposed to be authentic, but the scan codes don't hold up if you have a warranty claim. That was rampant a few years ago with Nike clone sneakers made in the Nike factory and sold on the street by workers. We'll see if mine passes warranty verification when it arrives.

Heck, I'm even leary at times buying products from Amazon, particularly when a name brand product is being offered for much less than other sellers. So many products now-a-days are counterfeits and not just high prices items like golf clubs and TNF clothing.
That, and there's re-manufactured and refurbished returned products that sellers buy in quantity and sell for discounts. As long as a seller properly identifies the source I'm fine with that as long as the price reflects the source of the item and it's in new or like new condition.
I try to find PRIME items that offer 2 day delivery. Those are stocked in Amazon's warehouse instead of being shipped from a seller's garage. $99 a year for Prime is worth it if you use the video, music, free 2 day shipping, and other bennies that come with Prime. I pay that much to Netflix just for the movies.
Amazon recently bought land and is building a humongous shipping warehouse in Macon. I'm hoping for some sort of benefit with the warehouse being about 15 miles away from my house. They might just provide same day USPS pickup and next day delivery in cases where the product is turned over to USPS the night of the order and hits my mailbox the next day. My luck, it would go to USPS Atlanta in a truck with all the other stuff and be trucked back to Macon the next morning!
