That, and there's re-manufactured and refurbished returned products that sellers buy in quantity and sell for discounts. As long as a seller properly identifies the source I'm fine with that as long as the price reflects the source of the item and it's in new or like new condition.

I try to find PRIME items that offer 2 day delivery. Those are stocked in Amazon's warehouse instead of being shipped from a seller's garage. $99 a year for Prime is worth it if you use the video, music, free 2 day shipping, and other bennies that come with Prime. I pay that much to Netflix just for the movies.

Amazon recently bought land and is building a humongous shipping warehouse in Macon. I'm hoping for some sort of benefit with the warehouse being about 15 miles away from my house. They might just provide same day USPS pickup and next day delivery in cases where the product is turned over to USPS the night of the order and hits my mailbox the next day. My luck, it would go to USPS Atlanta in a truck with all the other stuff and be trucked back to Macon the next morning!

My wife and I share a Prime account ... at times we've ordered just 1 inexpensive item and had it in two days ... Amazon must lose money on us at times, as processing, handling and shipping costs likely exceed the cost of the time we purchased.

I generally put things in my cart and wait a few days. Most of the time I exceed the $25 Prime shipping minimum by the time I click place order, but I agree, Amazon must make money on the entirety of their daily volume rather than worrying about whether every 2 day shipment meets the $25 rule.

I've been an Amazon customer since the days where they were heavy into book selling. I've gotten some real deals on used books. They have agreements with bookstores all over the U.S. and can find what you are looking for. I've bought hard bound and paperback books for as little as a dollar or two that cost ten times that when new and had them shipped free with an order. From the store stickers on the books they came from book stores in cities all over.

Heck, you might be able to get 1 hour delivery via drone!

I wondered where that actually occurs. With the warehouse so close it would make sense. Drone delivery would need to be to areas where theft isn't a problem. My neighborhood would be ideal. Lots are 1 to 3 acres and there's low traffic through the area. They could drop it by my garage door (Like USPS does) and no one would even notice. My house is over 100' from the street.

Think I read that they were planning to use lockable landing boxes. The drone would open the box and drop the package in, then reset the lock. I don't know if it's operating anywhere yet.

Onstar? Or similar car electronics, so they can call in and have someone in a call center pop the trunk.

That would give them GPS position data, and I suppose one would have to hope someone close by didn't leave their trunk open...

I also enjoy Prime benefits. For me it is mostly the free shipping, but I occasionally take advantage of the music and videos.

One of the most noticable effects of having a local distribution center is that you will now be paying local sales taxes (if your state has such a tax), since Amazon will now have a physical presence in your state. You will also find that more of your shipments will come via USPS rather than UPS. (This may not concern you, but for me it means the difference between getting packages delivered to my rural mailbox - unsecure and 1/3 of a mile away - where they used to be delivered to my front door.)

If it's USPS they put it in my mailbox at the end of my driveway. If it's a big box, they drive down the driveway and drop it next to the garage door if I'm not home or inside the garage door if I am.

Amazon and other shippers have been a cash cow for the Post Office. Walmart is pushing home delivery with their internet orders, too. It's a dog eat dog relationship with online orders. The retail world has changed in the last decade or two. Target just closed their only location in our city. Kmart closed theirs about a year ago.

It's interesting that the Post Office was complaining about losing money a few years ago. USPS mail carriers are scrambling these days with packages.

Nice! But weren't you expecting a new JAC?

My perhaps faulty memory as well, Mike.

Hope her Jac didn't get jacked!
Yup, I got a notice in my mailbox last night. I'm stopping by the post office on my way home from work. Just a couple more hours!
