There is a thread about it here. https://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/f...is-just-made-the-front-page-of-drudge.709694/

There's a picture in that thread. They seemed to have pretty reached the same conclusion as you have but it's hard to tell from the picture they have to work with. The drip tip exploded in his throat? Yeah, right.

Looks like, as usual, there's a lot of info missing from the report. Most often there isn't a follow up so people are left with erroneous or downright wrong info. It's entirely possible that the device was not to blame at all and the kid was doing something stupid. It would be nice and very useful to know the truth.

Hello good people. I'm pleased to meet you all. I'm not really new to vaping because I have had several of the little things that you can get at a convenience store. Hated them but pretended to use them to quit the real thing. I am ready now to stop; been smoking way too long, about 36 years... Wow.

Husband bought me a cool fire iv it was too bulky so he ended up with it and got me a Nautilus mini. Love it. Just learning how to hit it properly. I still want to smoke it like a cigarette. How long to reprogram the brain?
We've been around to the local shops and have a pretty good collection of juice but I am not fond enough of any of these. I'll be doing the diy I'm sure. :) oh..we live in se Texas and are born and raised... Working refineries. Hope you all have a wonderful day.

Is anyone sitting in this rocker? Well don't mind me, beautiful porch!! A lovely day in Texas..:)

Welcome! Sounds like you and your husband are doing great. The journey is different for all of us and changing all the time. Folks here are happy to help in any way we can.

Heres the letter I got.

Dear Patrick:

Thank you for contacting me regarding H.R. 2058, the FDA Deeming Authority Clarification Act of 2015. It is an honor to represent the people of Eastern Washington and I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts with me.

On April 25, 2014, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) proposed a regulation that would require manufacturers of premium cigars, e-vapor products and other so called "deemed tobacco products" to acquire pre-market approval for that have come to the market after February 15, 2007. This regulation would require companies to stop selling all electric cigar and vapor products that haven't gotten pre-market approval if they were released after that date, whereas most products under the FDA's jurisdiction, including cigar and vapor products released before 2007, may be on the shelves while awaiting FDA approval. This regulation, specifically the arbitrary grandfather date of February 15, 2007, creates an illogical and unfair inequality between innovative products that have come to the market after February 2007 and those on the market before that date. In 2007, the market for electronic cigar and vapor products was just becoming established and as such, newer products are more technologically advanced and often safer for consumers.

To address this concern, Rep. Tom Cole introduced the FDA Deeming Authority Clarification Act, which seeks to move the deeming regulation date to 2015. This legislation lessens the burdens on innovative thinkers and small businesses involved in the electronic cigar and vapor industry. As a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, the committee tasked with jurisdiction over the FDA, I am committed to ensuring that our laws and regulations keep pace so that innovation continues and both businesses and consumers benefit. Be assured that I will keep your views in mind as Congress continues to examine this issue.

Thank you again for contacting me on this important issue. As your Representative in Congress, I am committed to putting the best interests of Eastern Washington first. Please visit my website at www.mcmorrisrodgers.house.gov for additional information or to sign up for my e-newsletter. Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of further assistance.

Sincerely,

Nice that you at least got an answer. Looks like a form letter to address the issue so that means she must be getting enough contacts to justify writing it. Hopefully she agrees with the statements and she at least knows you're watching.

The timing of this was just awful, and a young man was injured - again, awful. A battery vented. That's pretty much all we know. I'll be interested to see whether anyone follows up, or tries to determine root cause.
They never seem to do that. Rather frustrating. Then again, the followup story wouldn't be as sensational as reporting the mod blew up and that resulted in in a secondary explosion of the drip tip in his throat. They already look like screwballs having reported that in the first place.Hoping that do follow up but not holding my breath.
Yeah, that was at one of his rallies. But he ain't that stupid. (debatable) He did say his book came in second.
Legs quoted what he was thinking, not what he said. ;)

Here is another letter I got. Definately will not vote for her. I mean what kind of vaping products were even around in 2007. I didn't start till 2009 and all there was was crap then.
Dear Mr. Dunham,

Thank you for contacting me about the electronic cigarettes. I appreciate hearing from you on this important issue and sincerely regret the delayed response.

As you know, electronic cigarettes are devices that produce a similar experience to smoking. Electronic cigarettes are battery-powered devices that provide inhaled doses of nicotine or non-nicotine vaporized solution. Proponents of electronic cigarettes argue that the devices can help people quit smoking, and do not deliver the same carcinogens. However, critics of e-cigarettes remain concerned about their health effects, and their sale and marketing to children.

On April 25, 2014 the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) proposed a rule allowing for FDA regulation of electronic cigarettes similar to the FDA's current regulatory oversight of traditional tobacco products. Under the proposal, the FDA would require electronic cigarette makers to include health warnings on their products, and prevent sales to children. The FDA has proposed this rule under the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act (P.L. 111-31), which President Obama signed into law in 2009. The public comment period for this rule closed on August 8, 2014; the FDA has said that it received more than 80,000 comments to its proposed rule.

The Food and Drug Administration has the authority to regulate cigarettes, cigarette tobacco, and all additional tobacco products. Tobacco products and e-cigarettes on the market before February 15, 2007 do not have to be reviewed by the FDA again. However, any tobacco products introduced after February 2007 will be considered new products and must go through FDA's approval process.

I appreciate your concerns about the FDA's proposed regulation of new tobacco products. Please be assured that I will keep these concerns in mind should I have the opportunity to consider legislation on Tobacco and electronic cigarettes in the Senate.

Thank you again for contacting me to share your thoughts on this matter. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future if I can be of further assistance.

Sincerely,

I've been in the Regs threads again, and came across this:
https://www.reddit.com/r/electronic...so_my_congressman_gave_some_interesting_info/

Worth a look see. It refers to a voice vote by the House Agricultural Committee, basically changing the 2007 date in the deeming regs to a date coincident with the effective date of those regs. Echoes the language in HR-2058. A little ray of sunshine ...

ETA: Rep. Charlie Dent (R-PA), who is on the Committee, forwarded the info to a constituent.

I wonder who actually wrote his book for him?
Maybe he did while channeling Dr. Seuss? Oh wait, Dr. Seuss made sense when he wrote.

So now this goes to the house. HR-2058 has been sitting in committee for around five months. My head hurts from trying to keep track of all this but thank you for the link Little Bird. :)

Well the house just passed a 3 year extension on the deadline for rail safety improvements, so we know they are concerned about our safety...

Wow. I think everybody knows what a bad state the railroads are in. There are many things they could do to help people but it seems clear political contributions outweigh public well being in many cases. For example, Chantix...

the 2 Kayfuns I ordered from Vapor Range arrived today. YEAH!!!! They have both been soaked and scrubbed, drying overnight. Then tomorrow I get to build my new toys!! I do already have 1 Kayfun (Lite V2, same thing) and a mini Kayfun and although I don't care for them out and about (not real pocket friendly), I do love them for around the house. The flavor is fantastic!!

Really - you have issues 'pocketing them'. I carry them all the time in my pockets and Janet puts them in her purse. We've not had problems.

None of the railroads were going to meet the deadline anyway so they extended the deadline rather than fine the crap out of a few of their major donors. The railroads are doing a fair job of fixing the major corridors since the big FUBAR up on Long Island, but don't stand a chance in hell of finishing all the rails in time for the deadline. Just goes to show you that they care about the fundage more the constituent.

Why not "pocket friendly"? I carry my Kayfuns in my pocket quite a bit and have never had a disaster of any sort. No leakage either. Just saying.

Welcome Sheerasowner!!! I think you will adapt to vaping fast! it's amazing so many of us smoked so long and were able to quit using our e-cigs! Vaping might be a little different for everyone depending on nicotine levels. I chain-vaped for at least three to four weeks after my last cig. I think you will do a 180! As I made the transition, I let myself smoke a few cigs every day for a little while. I never expected it to work for me because I had tried everything to quit and was starting to see myself as a hopeless case. There are so many online vape shops to find liquids that it can be fun finding what you like and lot of people have great recipes for DIY liquid! You'll have a lot of fun because of how creative so many of the people are here. There is nothing they have not been able to answer! Make yourself at home! Lots of the people here are technical experts when it comes to vaping. I learn something new everyday from them!

Mike or Janet,
How warm do your Istick TC40W get when you charge them? Mine get quite warm but, I haven't had any problems with them and they cool right off when they're done even if I leave em connected to the wall wart.

They feel pretty warm, but not hot and they cool off pretty quickly. We try not to leave any of our batteries in the charger when we're not here or when we go to bed. Usually an iStick gets charged in the morning as long as we're home. That way we're here to take it off when it's done.
