Hello everyone just a little about myself only been gaping about seven months now was doing better good for awhile went a month without a CIG then gaping was working as good so starting doing both again got up to about 3/4 pack a day decide to figure something's out. Have been reading different theards on here for about 5months just casually but never joined but really started reading and studying to figure things out. Read a lot of new member stuff then went to tools puffer threads. Finished them then went looking for more and wondered in here and been enjoying it very much. Bought some new topps and started figuring things out and headed in the right direction down to 4 or 5 cigs a day so much better still trying to find the right juice and nic level. I smoke mentol cigs so finding the right mentol taste has been hsrd. I think most juice makers never smoked a mentol CIG. In a couple of months will have the money for a diy kit so will be asking a lot of questions

I definitely didn't start DIY or coil building as a hobby. I spent $20/month on smokes. (roll your own) I could either learn to rebuild and make my own juice or quit vaping. Hubby was just starting a new job and money was (still is) to tight for me to buy coils and juice. He wanted me to succeed at vaping so we put the money up there to get what I needed to get started.

Sounds like your approaching it right - not sweating being a dual user, counting the one's you DON'T smoke!

What % nic are your vaping now? I started at 18, wasn't enough, so upped it a bit and was happy.

And, if possible, i.e. if there are shops you can get to, many have tasters. Maybe branch out from what you used to smoke. Think about vaping as if you're tasting flavored fog :)

For some, making it that different helps to at least change the device that satisfies the craving.

And ask away! :thumb:

as far as finding just the right flavor... You will never find one that exactly mimics smoking. This is because there are no flavors that match the taste of the ash and tar. Rather than straight menthol, try various mint flavors. If you happen to really like some sort of candy or desert, but "are not allowed" to have them, find a juice with THAT flavor and you can have it to your heart's content.
Try having at least 3 different flavors on-hand and switching throughout the day.

You're doing fantastic considering you haven't even found an ADV (all day vape) juice yet!

I was also a menthol smoker and was lucky enough to find a decent menthol right off the bat (DFW Vapor's regular menthol). But, it wasn't until I stumbled onto their Caramel Macchiato that I fell in love with vaping. I never would have even thought of trying a coffee-type flavor. So, I was so very lucky that my brother bought some to try and let me taste it.

That's all I vaped for many months. I had lots of other juice. But, Caramel Macchiato was so good that I just couldn't put it down!

I'm not the only menthol smoker that ended up having a totally different ADV. It's very common. Try lots of different types of flavors. You will stumble upon something wonderful that will surprise you. And, it very likely will not be menthol.

Welcome to the Porches, Medleypat! One less + one less + one less ultimately gets you to none at all, and how great is that?!

I started with a tobacco vape, and failed miserably. It didn't taste at all like what I smoked. In fact, my reaction was PSS! (Patooey! Spit! Spit!) When the folks at my local vape shop introduced me to bakery flavors, it was a game on. :) As Ken said, perhaps try several non-tobacco flavors. Do you have a vape store nearby?

Yes there is one close but doesn't have a good tasting bar. Have tried other juice but still crave menthol just don't like a strong one or one that taste like candy found a couple that aren't bad but not prefect. Not really looking for one just like a CIG but with the mild menthol like a CIG. One of my concern is I'm visionly impaired and try to make it on disability so if I buy a juice I hate can't afford to to throw it out plus that's money I can use to buy juice I like. Saving whatever extra money I can to buy a dig kit so I can make my own. That brings me to a small rant some people on here seem to really push rebuilding coils but some people can't. I have a subtank with the rebuild able head and have looked at it and there is no way I can do it way too small not rally a big problem for me because I wah my coils in vodka then water or just water depending on why I changed them and so far only had three that didn't work. Just brought this up so when new people ask about what to buy everyone can keep that in mind not everyone can rebuild.

Understood, @medleypat . And, especially on the porches, there are many who have vision and hand problems that make rebuilding a challenge not worth facing.

Key then, imo, is to "standardize" on one line of toppers (tanks, etc) that all can use the same coil head, so you don't have to buy and stock many different types. That's another way to reduce costs.

(And some buy premade coils, if installing them is a possibility.)

Another point I'd like to make is when recommended products for new capers is kiss keep it simple. The reason I say this is I have a friend that did ego batt. and ce5 for over 2 years then saw other people with box mods and bigger tanks so decided to give it a try failed bad. I gave him a spinner batt. and he liked that but decided to buy a mini bolt kit didn't like the batt. life so I traded him my Knox for it. He had trouble trying to find his sweet spot and was using the spinner when Knox was charging and figured out he liked it better more of a set and go set up so traded the Knox back to me for 2 spinner batteries also gave him a couple vivi nova monies and a couple of aspire ets and he's happy as can be some people just want trap and gp devices.

Yea just heard about premade coils with wicks installed so will have to do more research on those have to see if I can find a deck with big enough holes that I can see and coils above 1 ohm don't like most subohm to a point. But not so sure anymore have a vaperrosso target that uses 0.8 ohm coils and been liking it at 22-24 watts.

Actually, your Kanger subtank deck is one of the easier to install coils in. No holes, the flat screw and raised sides of the "channel" let you just lay the coil end under and then tighten the screw. No trying to find the tiny hole or wrapping the end around the screw.

Medley, I smoked a pad of menthols for 40 years. When I bought my first set up & juice to go with it, I asked for Menthol. I had no clue that flavors existed. I thought it would all be some kind of liquid tobacco or something! I got a bottle of plain menthol juice, & one of a peppermint ice, which has a menthol like effect, & at 24 mg & chain vaping at first, those were a perfect combination to take the place of the cigs. Those were the only things I used for several months. I took the first hit & the throat hit in the little ego set I'd bought felt just like smoking. The plain menthol juice tasted close enough to a cig, which even tho not my brand of cig, it felt really close. The peppermint had the same effect but tasted really good. Like sticking a fresh stick of gum in your mouth & then lighting up. That day was it for me. neither of those was a menthol tobacco flavored juice. I didn't know flavors existed. My choices were random but the names on the bottles sounded menthol. I've not been able to find a tobacco, menthol or not, that I liked. They taste terrible. I can still use that peppermint ice I started with tho. And I learned about other flavors, & grew from there. Right juice, right nic level, right device = bingo!

Can you get prewicked coils for them?

Hi and welcome! It sounds like you are doing it right! You have been reading and researching, that's wonderful. Please ask any questions that have or that come up, there is a lot of experience here on the porches.

I, too, didn't start vaping as a hobby. I wanted to quit smoking, or at least cut back & maybe save some $$. I only knew a couple of peoplw who vapedn & they were dual using. They only vaped in places they couldn't smoke. They weren't using a nic level that would satisfy the craving. They just took whatever the vape shop guy gave them. When I started vaping I had recently become disabled & had compounded medical issues. Living on disability, I had to find ways to cut expences which meant spending less on, or eliminating smoking. And to preserve my health. Now that I have really good devices, & am diyingn h building my own coilsn all I really spend of vaping is what I choose to spend on it. I can go for years now & only spend on batteries once in awhile, or flavorings occasionally. I can choose to spend nothing. But! I like my mods. I do my research, save up, & buy one. I've settled on 1 or 2 brands/models that I like, those are the ones I am getting to cover me forever.
