Today, we're visiting Kenny Rogers ..

The 74 year old Texan .. despite bad plastic surgery .. has worked with so many of Music Industries greats, from the Bee Gees to Lionel Ritchie to Dolly Parton, fronted an eclectic band called The First Edition that had a string of Pop/Country hits .. add to that list Actor, entrepreneur/Restaurant owner, five marriages, a former member of The New Christy Minstrels .. the list goes on ..

Today, a tip of the hat to the gravel voice of Kenny Rogers ..

I'm sending this one out to all of you that have loved and lost, those that have stayed true to the love they have, those that have kept their commitment because of love and still look at each other every day with love, no matter the good or the bad .. and those that wish they had found that special love and still hope it's there, somewhere ..

Good songs Willie! They bring back some memories for sure! I replaced my ex's name for Lucielle many times as the song hits pretty close to home! The Gambler has always been a favorite too even though that is one vice that never had control of me I can certainly relate to the words in other circumstances.:tumble:

I've always loved Kenny Rogers, actually saw him once at the mall, surrounded by his people. I heard him on an interview once where he said he loved his job so much it was a shame to take money for doing it. How wonderful to be so successful at something you truly love to do. Most of us can't figure out what it is we want to be when we grow up and he's had a whole lifetime of living his dream.

For Janet .. I took this shot in my backyard over the weekend .. Nikon D5100 with a 55-200 Nikon Zoom / VR off / handheld, no tripod / manual focus

Great picture Willie! Especially on manual! Love the crisp sharpness, contrast, and color! I bought my wife a Nikon D90 for our 30th anniversary to replace the Nikon 35mm I bought her overseas! She loves it and uses photoshop too!

Sadly, I learned of the death of Joe South yesterday evening when a mutual friend called me .. equally sad, there was no real breaking news on his passing ..

South was a prolific singer / songwriter and guitarist that made a positive impact on my life with what is likely his most famous tune, "Games People Play" .. the particular lyric that struck home with me then and still does now :

Look around tell me what you see
What's happening to you and me
God grant me the serenity
To remember who I am

Cause you've given up your sanity
For your pride and your vanity
Turn your back on humanity
And you don't give a da da da da da

Joe began his musical journey in the late 1950's, primarily as a session guitarist .. he was an excellent player, and can be heard on hits like .. Aretha Franklin's "Chain of Fools", Tommy Roe's "Sheila", and Bob Dylan's Blonde on Blonde album, Simon & Garfunkel's first hit, "The Sounds of Silence" and many others ..

However, he really came into his own as a song writer .. so today, we celebrate the life and great talent of Georgia native, Joe South .. RIP

As a long time 35mm user, I've always believed that using manual control makes the difference between an OK pic and a good pic .. I spent so many years wishing I had my own darkroom, the advent of digital was a real celebration for me .. just the ability to take as many shots as a card will hold is priceless .. film can get expensive ..

The only real drawback is my inability money wise to afford the gear I really want .. oh, well .. it's nice to dream ..
