I like to argure with people. I like to smoke my e cig, and I try and get peoples attention. A short story shall we. I was at an olive garden smoking my e cig, the woman behind me was screaming YELLOW, RED, BLUE , BLACK into a nintendo DS. I think its that darned brain teaser game. anyway I was puffing away when she looked up and said sir, um sir. I stared at her like an idiot. People hate that. Could you stop smoking in here? Im not smokeing I said. Oh well yeah you are, I can see the cig in your hand. She said it in a jersey shore skank attitude kinda way and that set me off. Listen (name of a female dog) I didnt complain when you were screaming colors into your f-ing DS now f-off and leave me be. Needles to say I was removed from the building and had to pay from outside. # year old daughter with her or not she had no bizness in my bizness. :D happy vaping. And i do agree with you. Im just an a hole.

One of these days you will grow up.... and learn to spell.

Personally, I'm very divided on this issue.

Half of me really wants to be polite and not offend anyone's sensibilities. The other half wants people to stop being ignorant, learn something, and not be offended so easily. I don't generally vape in public as I don't get the cravings that I used to, but sometimes I still want to stand on top of a table in a restaurant and shout, "I AM PREPARING TO USE MY NICOTINE INHALER. IT APPEARS TO BE A CIGARETTE, BUT IT IS NOT. PLEASE HOLD YOUR WHINING, AND PLEASE RECTALLY INSERT YOUR COMPLAINTS AND ATTITUDE. I PUT UP WITH YOUR OFFENSIVE PERFUME, YOUR CRYING CHILDREN, YOUR CELLPHONE CONVERSATIONS WHILE I'M TRYING TO EAT, AND YOUR MASSIVE SUV CLOGGING UP OUR ROADWAYS. IF YOU PERSIST IN BEING OBNOXIOUS, I WILL TEST WHETHER THIS PERSONAL VAPORIZER CAN PENETRATE YOUR CRANIAL CAVITY. THANK YOU AND HAVE A GOOD NIGHT."

Sorry for the caps flood, but it carries a bit more impact, eh?

ROFL! Now this I would absolutely love to see, and sometimes to join in on!

What is with all the hiding and puffing where you won't get caught. Sounds like a bunch of kids sneaking around........... As vapers, we are going to have to come out of the shadows sooner or later, and we may have to pay a little more for the product so the dealers and manufacturers can fight the legal battles. When more people see us, more people will recognize the viability of vaping as opposed to smoking and our ranks will swell. Restaurants may not be the best place to vape, but other retail areas and bars are good. Hiding and going to smoking areas is not helping (you are just doing the governments job for them).
I agree wholeheartedly!
I've had more people inquire as to what it is and where to get it than I've had dirty looks or nasty comments.

Get out there and spread the word!!!

I honestly cannot wait to educate people on the benefits of vaping.

I plan on doing it whenever I can, asking first of course to not cause any problems with management, and I hope to pioneer the idea in my local area.

We have a weekly "farmers market" in our downtown area of our city and I'm going to set up a booth with information for people on the ups(and downs if we ever find any) of using a pv.

I would love to push our cause, but we have to be weary on who we push it on. There are a lot of stubborn people who would rather remain ignorant and be "correct", than there are people who are willing to listen and learn.

I love it :) I am personally hoping to get a few dozen extra kits to possibly sell at the Pagan Pride Day 2010. I think it would be a hoot :D

I agree 100% with the OP. I think vaping in public where smoking is not allowed really pisses off the non-smoking fanatics because they think we
are being arrogent with our PV's.

If you Google "ban e-cigarettes" you will see tons of websites by anti cig
folks saying things like, "do you want to breath deadly nicotine because
the law says the guy next to you is allowed to use his e-cigarette in your breathing space?"
This is the kind of propaganda crap that will get sympathy from non-smokers enough to get petitions out to legislators.

And the big drug and tobacco companies will be all to eager to help finance the campain.

To a rightous anti smoking zelot, nicotine is nicotine. Dont even waste your breath trying to explain to them that it's only water vapor, they will insist that you are violating their rights and forcing them to breath your deadly nicotine laced air. Smoke, vapor, no matter, it's still nicotine.

Dont need to believe what I am saying, check these websites out for your self and read the scientificly inaccurate crap they are preaching.

This arrogent "we can now vape whereever we want" attude is what's going to get the public up-in-arms to get it baned.

I vape until I am asked not to. Good manners count for a lot.

When I vape indoors, I do so discreetly. Not exactly to the point of stealth, but low-key to be sure. No huge plumes of vapor, and I tend to hold it by the tip, to show that there is nothing burning. If approached, a gentle explanation usually suffices, but always with a willingness to put it away if the situation calls for it. I'd like to think we are all "ambassadors" for our product, and making a good impression helps tremendously with acceptance.

If you walk around waving it in people's faces, blowing clouds every five seconds, of course people will misinterpret what they are seeing. Throwing a "I'll do whatever I want" attitude certainly won't change any minds. Just a little bit of courtesy goes a long way to changing opinions.

There is a big difference between educating respectfully, as most on this thread have advocated, and being arrogant. Your position confirms to non-smokers that vaping is just as dangerious as smoking and that you still are a smoker. Actions speak much louder than words and your actions say strongly: STAY AWAY FROM ME, I DO SOMETHING THAT WILL HURT YOU. If you are not willing to opening vape respectfully and educate others to the difference between vaping and smoking, then your actions are supporting the same zealots that want to ban vaping.

People hate gray areas which require them to think... Especially persons in authority. It is realy black and white for a lot of them... Smoke (or vapor) in the air = NO! Easy! "I can go back to my non-thinking easy existence now."

But then you throw in the 'you gotta think about this one, Bud!" and you really shake up their lives, and they DO NOT LIKE IT!

The key is to allow them to go along with you and have some fun. "Hey, you! Put that cigarette out now!" Laugh a gentle non-threatening laugh and say, "Oh, I can see that this looks like I'm smoking, but I'm really not." Then take the PV apart and show them nothing is burning etc. "This has gotten me off cigarettes, off paying the government their pound of flesh in taxes, really improved my health and it is fun. So I agree with you smoking is a big no-no, but this is like standing here having a cup of coffee. That's not such a big deal, is it?"

Works for me!

My wife and I are both vapers. Last night we went to a bar/restaurant down the street from where we just moved. I spoke to the guy behind the bar and asked permission FIRST. My wife and I then started vaping casually, being sure to keep the bright blue lights on our 510's visible. After a few minutes, people began to come and ask us things like "Hey, are those the electronic cigarettes I heard about on the radio?", or "Do those things work?". We spoke to several people and were able to answer questions and hand out business cards of our favorite suppliers to people who wanted them for themselves or friends/family. I even got the bar to keep some cards around to hand out to other customers! Talk about raising awareness in a sociable way and replacing erroneous information with truth. This could help our cause quite a bit in the public view and, most importantly, potentially save a life!

I see no reason not to vape in public provided it is done politely and responsibly. If any one (customer or employee) had asked me to stop then I certainly would have. I think it's all a matter of approach. Just my thoughts.

All up in your grill..
I could not care less about what the anti's think. If YOU think kissing their (holier then thou) behinds will make a lick of difference then you are naive. for 10 years I was so hopelessly addicted to analogs I thought I would never be free. Now that I am, you want to corral me in with real smokers so I can breathe their deadly second hand smoke to appease the likes of banzahf? It will be a cold day in hell.

I second that!!

I spent the last 3 out of 4 weekends in Chicago. We seemed to have dined each night at a different bar/restaurant and each time, I asked when they were taking my drink order if they allowed 'nicotine inhalers' to be used in their establishments.
All but one at least knew of them & allowed it, one even said "sure! We even had a guy over in the corner using one earlier".
The one place that hadn't heard of them, I did a quick 30 second explanation of them, politely assuring them it wasn't breaking the smoking ban and all was ok.

Not wanting to look like I was doing an "in your face" act, I did hold the vaper a little longer than I normally do and exhaled downward, but IMHO, that was a small price to pay for keeping the peace and being allowed to use it.

Maybe it's just me, but how can I say it should be up to the business owner to decide if s/he wants to allow smoking or not, and at least not give them the curtesy of allowing vaping if they so desire.
