I finally got some more 30g in the other day to mess around with twisting wire. Did a tight two-strand twist with the 30g, and built a dual coil setup on my Igo W. Same inner diameter (paperclip) as my old build (28g) same resistance as my old build (.5 overall) but the flavor has been boosted quite a bit, and vapor seems thicker and more silky if that makes any sense. Very, very impressed. No increase in power, but an increase in performance.
So I wondered what 3 strands of 30g would do, twisted them tight again on the drill, then built a single .5 ohm micro coil (paperclip again) with the result. Coil looks huge compared to a 28g coil of the same diameter, and when glow testing it heated up very quickly, yet stayed red hot for a very long time. I was worried perhaps that would be an issue, but after capping my Kraken and taking a pull i was shocked yet again.
Previously I had a pair of 1 ohm 28g coils in there, now with a single .5 ohm coil of the tripple-30 wire I'm once again getting much improved vapor and flavor without any change in power. I had considered adding another coil in there, but this single .5 ohm coil is outperforming .3 ohm quad coil builds I've done, it's crazy.
This twisted wire is just ridiculous, never understood why people went through the hassle, now I do. There is something truly magic going on here, there is massive amounts of surface area, yet heat-up time is still near instant. Flavor is just crazy saturated tasting and the vapor is unreal compared to the power being pumped in. It's hard to tell if it's just the massive vapor, or something else going on, but the nicotine buzz I'm getting seems stronger and more instant when puffing on this thing.
Additionally, the wire is very stiff, yet still pliable (I know that sounds contradictory) so it's the easiest wire I've ever used for wrapping perfect compressed micros. The pattern the wire makes when the coil is wrapped looks really cool as well, hard to see in my crappy pic. The double strand stuff makes a shredder/meat grinder type pattern, and the triple strand makes a really uniform cross-hatch type pattern.
Just with round wire too... that Mundy guy better lock his doors because I'm gonna bust in and steal all his twisted ribbon! Can't even imagine how great that stuff vapes.
It doesn't happen often, but I love it when it does, when you have that "I get it now" feeling about something. Felt it when I first got into RBAs, then when I got into sub-ohm stuff, and now I feel it again with twisted wire.
If you never tried twisted give it a shot, there is serious magic happening I can't explain, but you'll probably love it (assuming you twist the wire well)
