That's it.. it's all the parts. Once you have it fully apart,

Never done that. Never will. What I could never remember was the order of closing and opening juice flow and airflow--"turn this clockwise," turn that counterclockwise"...
There. Done forever. :)

I know that I am pretty new to the forum, but I haven't noticed much of anything in the way of drama on here. Everyone I've interacted with has been pretty great. Except for @Daniel Forsyth. His constant peer pressure about buying a Brunhilde makes me uncomfortable.
There was some drama recently, between a few members. I try to mostly stay clear of excrement relocated by spinning fan blades, but it's a thing that happens most definitely, here and elsewhere.

Anyway, the essence of what I'm saying is, it happens. :p

That's because we're all scared and busy panic buying. ;) Nothing like an FDA deadline to bring folks together. Even mortal enemies.

Do you consider cotton or rayon easier to wick? I would prefer to start with the easiest option.

I agree with everything others have already said wrt different kinds of cotton and rayon, but for your first attempt, I find those rectangular JOC squares to be the easiest. You just cut off a strip say 3mm wide, depending on the diameter of your coil and take it from there. You know the rest.

I've tried several kinds of cotton, from KGD and Labo to all kinds of exotics and they all work. Some are hype, some are really better/cleaner/easier to work with, see SMT's post, but they all work. Once you've built and wicked a few coils, you'll become much more comfortable and you're off to the races. It's not rocket science. Practice, practice...

So you should probably get it any day now, right?

Guess what? From your mouth to God's ears! It arrived today.

It needs a bath and I'll throw a build on it later tonight.

Right off the bat: It's fugly. All that branding looks even more annoying in person. And it's heavy (i got the 24mm version).

Tbc.

I am not entirely sure what the JOC squares are to be honest. In regards to size, so the width needs to match the diameter? So if I do 2.5ID coils, my cotton needs to be 2.5mm wide?

Japanese organic cotton. Sorry. You got one of those with your Ares.
So if I do 2.5ID coils, my cotton needs to be 2.5mm wide?

I always cut wider than that. It also depends on the thickness of the pads. Some are thin, some are thick. Just eyeball it. For your Ares--really, really watch Phil's video. And follow his steps.

Where do you get your Tidi rayon, SMT? I tried several times to find a vendor that would sell me less than a case of 2000 balls, but never succeeded.

I didn't much care for Graham's (Sally's) rayon--i bought a small baggie of it from one of my regular e-cig vendors years ago, Kidney Puncher, iirc, and found it difficult to work with and not worth the hassle.
It's is almost impossible to find Tidi rayon balls in low quantity. I found 1000 balls per bag. Per Rossum you want "Tidi Rayon Balls Large 969162".

Here is where I bought mine last year... Rayon Balls Large Non-Sterile

That was for 2 bags of 1000 each. My brother got one of the bags and I have the other. I can see one bag lasting the rest of my life.

Each bag is about the size of a regular bed pillow.

The hardest part of working with the Tidi balls is finding where the starting point is to unroll them. Once found they unroll very easily.

Rayon really isn't hard to work with. The rule of thumb is you are using ~1/3 more in thickness than you would for a cotton wick. Not every RBA requires trimming the crap out of your tails either. If an atty has larger juice wells I don't trim at all (Tripod). OTOH on my modern Kayfun's I do trim a fair amount before tucking the tails into the juice wells. It all depends on the atty.

If you want to try Tidi rayon balls PM me and I'll send some out. Lemme know. :)

How's that list going?
Is the German girl on there yet??:w00t:

I had to work, so no progress. But I'm almost ready to finalize it--just need to find out how I feel about my Ares 2. Tried to add a few things to my FT cart but the site was excruciatingly slow, for some reason...

Lemme look! Hmm... Not yet, for some odd reason. ;)

I spent 22 dollars and change for DHL...
DHL from Europe is roughly the same.

DHL was $24 (Budapest), $21 (France) and $26 (Germany). FedEx was $32 (France). All rounded up.

Those were all in the last two months. Two of the DHL's took 3 days, 1 was 5 days (weekend) and FedEx was 3 days.

These days I think DHL is worth it with covid, outgoing delays from China and then USPS delays. Oh yeah, and the coming FDA regulations. :2c:
