I wish I had an old fireplace hanging around that I could use for battery charging. I can't think of a single spot in my house that would be fire resistant. Maybe I could stick the charger in a large pot or something.

    The oven:)
An hour at 150 degrees should do ito_O

D can I ask what the problem with the Abyss is? I’m not finding the posts.
It was as draining batteries too fast, and not every time, sometimes super fast, sometimes just kind of fast. There’s definitely something wrong with it. I was using new batteries that are fine in other mods and would get a full day out of them. Put them in the abyss and I might get 10 hours, might get 6. Otherwise it seemed to work fine, but they made me nervous.

I’ve heard people put them in a cast iron pan or Dutch oven. I sit mine on a metal coffee can in the kitchen. I charge in the morning while I have my coffee so I’m not far away. And if I haven’t set that hideous kitchen on fire with my cooking I feel pretty confident a battery charger malfunction is a lot lower of a risk.

I've got a couple of spares. Bludger just offered to sail up and bring you one. Do you want with or without chimney?

He's gonna swing by your place on the way home with the other one.

I checked the SM shipping email and sure enough it says the standard.....which I'd never order. I don't know whether it's my mistake or theirs but I think I'm going to write and ask!! If there's no joy I'll have to order again..... bummer

Charlie, check your order at their website again. "Standard" refers to the tank's capacity only (standard--8 or 5 ml, respectively, vs TPD--2 ml), not single vs dual coil. SM sells two Brunhilde tanks--MTL RTA (only standard 5 ml edition is available right now)
Vapefly Brunhilde MTL RTA 23mm 5ml Rebuildable Tank Atomizer

and RTA (both standard [8 ml] and TPD [2ml] editions are available
Vapefly Brunhilde RTA 25mm 2ml/8ml Rebuildable Tank Atomizer

In other words, just because you ordered a "standard" version doesn't mean you ordered the big dual-coil one.

Just a heads up. My Brunhilde mod just auto fired. Or I should say, I took a hit, and it didn’t stop firing after I let off the fire button. I just put a battery in it and an atty on it this morning, maybe4-5 hours ago. It hasn’t been dropped or anything. It did not feel like the button was stuck, it still pushes in and comes back out. Although I did not care for how flush it is, even before this happened.

I had a couple batteries short in an Xtar chargers a few years ago. The batteries went into thermal overload and launched across the garage about 20’ and the charger melted.

I had an Ego do that. I threw it in the kitchen sink (in the water with the dishes). I had dogs who would have seen if I threw it in the yard and thought it was a game of fetch, so I didn’t want to risk it.

Alright, so what are we supposed to do when stuff like this happens? Stuck button, auto firing, thermal runaway? There must be a better way than just throwing hissing batteries away as far as possible. Is there? I'm serious. Or do need to page @Mooch ? ;)

I never had a mech because I was always afraid of something like this happening, but I was pretty sure that with the new protected mods, better battery chemistry and better chargers we were pretty safe. Are we?

yeah that would make me nervous too. As I’ve gotten older I’ve decided that if something makes me nervous I’m not hanging around!! I think I’ve already used up most of my 9 lives!!

I ordered a new charger and a charging bag after that. It took a couple weeks for the smell from the batteries to go away.

Geez, Hitt, so sorry it happened to you. Must have been frightening. I considered getting a charging bag, but then I read somewhere that a charging bag itself may contribute to the charger and batteries overheating by reducing airflow. I don't know if that's the case, but it made sense to me at the time.

I just charge my batteries and mods on a granite counter and always when I'm nearby (and preferably nobody else--if at all possible ;)).

I've been wanting a pic of my first Luna, and I wanted something different from the woodpile. I found an old copper outside and tried that:

Some newer mod chips have protection called over-vape or something, that kicks in if it's fired for a certain amount of time.

My way of thinking with my mech mods, is that I have to rely on myself to keep it safe. Reg. mods, I'm also relying on the chip, which may fail. But then, so may I with mech mod safety.

And regardless of the mod: if I use a battery with a ripped/worn wrapper, or exceed the CDR of a battery, I'm asking for trouble.

Exactly why I’ve only bought semi - regulated or semi - mechanical depending upon who you ask. But still even using a semi reg it makes me a tiny bit nervous more so than a regulated which we are seeing safety fails.

I bought a lot of semi regulated mods for my stash. I don’t use many of them because I don’t appreciate their vape. Who wants a vape that gets weaker with every puff? I don’t. So I really don’t get it. I’ve got enough reg mods to last me two life spans. I hope Lol. !!

Exactly. I could never understand the appeal of unregulated mods. I only used those when nothing else was available (first cigalikes, ca 2009 ;)).

I’m trying to envision how you have a charger on top of a coffee can and I’m having no luck at all.

I now use a lipo charging bag. Put the batteries in the charger, put the charger in the bag, and close the bag. It’s supposed to contain it if the batteries go thermal.
