My friend told me it was like -30C in Toronto or something :(

I haven't posted in days because I can't type with mittens on my hands.

Our nationally funded TV station made a nice piece on the cold (same guys who did a fair doc on vaping):

-43C in Thunder Bay, F that noize.

I wish people would’ve told me that! I feel like most people on this forum are against vaping at higher wattage. Everybody recommended lowering the wattage and nobody recommended this when I mentioned spit back. Even my 40 watts looked offensive to some and I felt like I should’ve been vaping at even lower than that.

I’m no expert, but it seems when you say burning, most of us overlook the spitting and assume the wattage is too high.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but spitting can be caused by too low wattage. Also if the coils are too high, but the easy fix is trying a higher wattage before taking it apart and fiddling with the coil height.

I don’t see anyone being really against high wattage though, except where people want to vape at 200 just because the mod is supposed to be able.

It’s more about matching the wattage most closely with where a particular tank and ohms should work best.

I’m still learning all the ins and outs, and I tend to use too low a wattage, and that will definitely give a burn taste because the juice doesn’t heat up enough to really vaporize, and it just gunks up my coils. So I clean and rewick a lot more often than most lol.

My understanding is that it spits because it boils rather than vaporizes.

I get this when I use particularly chunky and massive coils and 3.7V-4.2V just doesn't cut it. For that reason I reserve my big chunky coils (often sold prewrapped in stores) for my regulated mods and hit it with the 4.4-4.7V.

That’s awful! Every year the weather gets worse :/ right now it’s 25C but it will probably get up to 30 or 31C in a few hours, which is a lot for the city I live in

Maybe against is not really the word but I see a lot of people commenting stuff like “you don’t need to vape at higher than 40w” or “if you keep on vaping at 60w you’ll burn your coil”, you know? I’ve posted and explained all of my problems constantly, not once did anyone ever suggest going over the watts I was already vaping at. They would all assume it was solely me wicking incorrectly or chain vaping, when perhaps all of my wasted cotton and juice could’ve been saved just by vaping at a higher wattage, know what I mean?

You need to take all advice with a grain of salt. Someone who offers that advice likely doesn't vape over 40W or has ever used coils that need over 60W.

It's like how my spouse is obsessed with Dodge Rams. They're the best trucks ever. So reliable, so good. But she's never driven any other kind of pick up truck.

Or how in Montreal the hockey fans think their team is the best franchise in the history of the sport. They're untouchable gods, they're so good. But they grew up only exposed to their team's history.

My point is very few people on this forum, or anywhere really, vape MTL, low wattage DTL, high wattage DTL, RTAs, RDAs, drop in coil tanks, mech mods, and regulated mods. When they give advice it comes from their experience which isn't comprehensive.

Someone come in here and ask for MTL advice from me, I would tell them to run their coil in parallel and hit it with 50W+. It would be terrible advice but I don't have MTL experience.

I guess that’s the problem. Sometimes you want to help but you don’t really know the tank or device in general. And you give advice based on your experience as you said, which is probably not suitable for one specific person. :)

I am not catching up oh my so much to do.

I was gonna do yoga, but now I am not. This is because I had the pleasure of encountering a kid that really…. Sometimes I think we need long term hospitals BACK. The doc came to warn me then day before and then suggested we "go in" together. I was hearing wild and unwieldy screams for like 15 minutes. I was curious.

I got punched about 7 times and kicked 3. Other staff have gotten bitten before, like drawn blood kind of thing. I actually have BRUISES. LOL. It took everything I had to not, um restrain that kid to the floor and bend him to my will but it's a PCP office, so you really can't. I had to wait for the mom to do it and she wasn't very good at it.

The sweet thing was, she brought him in to get his "left testicle examined, it is swollen." I was like, "We can't do that in this setting, I'm sorry. You need to take him to the hospital where he could get sedated, restrained, or both.' Sadly he was just out of the psych unit (again) and on scads of Haldol. Sometimes I despair, that kid needs to go in CPS custody and a group home for ever. Etc.

I will say about the testicle, I can't think of a better kid to NOT reproduce, but since I hurt and have bruises I will pack. I hate packing but I need to. Giving myself 15 minutes leeway here.

I almost broke out my cylon then I lost a grub screw, story of my life. Sigh.

I did not file worker's comp claim a) it would have been embarrassing and b) they are just bruises. Etc.

Anna
That’s terrifying. Can you imagine being in that mom’s shoes? Society expects us to be able to keep our kids under control-hard enough to do through the rough patches with ‘normal’ kids- but really, who among us are qualified to deal with a boy like that?

Where do you turn for help? I know there were times I was in over my head, and there were zero resources.

Anyway, I get why you didn’t file... but is there some way to log this in that boy’s records? Seems it would be helpful to note this history so nobody is taken by surprise and really gets hurt

Nail on the head! And I do mtl and dl, drop ins and RBAS, 10w-50 and Tc, no mechs or squonkers. But that just makes me a jack of (almost) all trades, not the master of any lol. I know enough to troubleshoot my own gear (mostly, and often with assistance), but it’s hard to know all the variables for someone else, remotely.

If you can stand the wait (new year vacation) efun had the aegis mini for @$25. They ship it to the us warehouse, who then gives it to usps. Took about two weeks, but worth it for the cost. I have three in rotation

Good morning shiners! Congrats to anyone who's temp makes it into the double digits today. Even if it only starts with a one. The prediction here is by Sunday highs in the 50's and Monday 60. I'm not complaining but this seesaw weather makes me sick. My sinuses are cursed. Must be someone with a voodoo doll. Probably one of my exes who kept some strands of my hair just for that purpose.

You posted spit back then dry hit threads.. Your RTA issues are all over the place. I read the threads you posted and most of the advise given was fine considering your description and responses.

Spit back can be an under wicking issue or low wattage. Dry hits can be an over wicking issue or high wattage .. See the problem?

When you have both going on it's hard to nail down. My 1st though with spit back or dry hits is always wicking issues as every RTA wicks differently. 80w at what ever ohm's is going to be pretty constant with the same juice no matter what RTA is used.. So again, back to why wicking is always the 1st though of many.

I didn't read all the responses in your other threads so not sure why raising the wattage for a spit back problem was not mentioned but if it were me, when I get spit back, the 1st thing I do is re wick it tighter... This assumes you are vaping in the recommended wattage range for the ohm coil you are using. If you are then raising the wattage is just a mask for the real cause in my opinion..

Either way good luck...

Soooo, I have been doing better lately. Not a steady job yet, but some small things here and there and have been feeling great because of the healthy eating. Now I promised myself not to buy anything for a while, but you know how these things go… “I’m doing so well, I’ll just treat myself a little.” GIANT slippery slope as I’m now looking at 3D printed mech squonkers…

But dang it! Ordering stuff late at night never works out for me! I thought I ordered a black Etna, but apparently ordered 2 blue ones. *facepalm* Crazy though, considering it was 17 bucks including shipment from France. I don’t know whether to love it or hate it, but I love the taste. It’s just really made for squonking. Not that you can’t drip it’s not very practical.

I’m already weary of getting the mech squonker ‘cause obviously I’m the type of person to want a fancy rda on a fancy squonker. What’s even more hilarious is that it combines a few elements I never thought I’d get into (or back into): mechs, squonking, 3D printed mods.

Shinyitus is one helluva drug!

The Etna does make a nice squonk RDA ... and you know what a blue one looks good on?

the blitz fp wasn't well received for various reasons. i'm still using it. great air flow adjustment and large capacity. it's better, but trickier, with dual builds i think.

It’s 9 here now but I know what you mean. This seesawing weather is the only thing that gives me sinus issues. Three days of nosebleed.

I promised the dogs an outing this weekend for being so good through this cold spell.
