Good morning Shiny's
...and no I haven't ordered IT.
Thanks Charlie. We're in the la nina cycle now where the Australian east coast gets higher than average rainfall so the fire threat is thankfully much lower than last summer. We've also had months of good rain whereas last summer's fires were at the end of a 3 to 5 year drought.
Morning shinies
I'm using an old iPhone 5 - I prefer android phones, but mine is waiting on a new battery. And I love photography -no matter whether I'm using a crappy phone camera or a decent digital![]()
AlbinoThey are just stunning!
Ok here's one for you guys - ever seen a white jaccaranda? A few years ago I started noticing some white flowers on the lawn amongst the carpet of the usual indigo/purple specimens. I traced them to a spindly little self sown jacaranda tree that was struggling up behind the shed. Now every year it flowers - only perfect white flowers. I'd never heard of them so googled and learnt more. Anyway, this photo is from a couple of days ago.

Hey @AngeNZ how are you liking these coils?
$3.39 Authentic Superfine 316L Stainless Steel Wire - 32*2/38 AWG / 0.2mm*2/0.1mm dia. / 10pcs/pack at FastTech - Free Shipping
I am having major issues with they ohm readings on these things. I have tried to install two of them and them ohms are all over the place. One was showing around 1.30 and the other around 1.40.
0.1 difference from one to another isn't a big deal with mass produced coils from China. Just be careful that you are tightening your screws tight enough without breaking any of the wires in the coil.Hey @AngeNZ how are you liking these coils?

The .1 difference didn't worry me. It was that it was listed as a 1.0 coil on the package and they were .3 to .4 times off that.0.1 difference from one to another isn't a big deal with mass produced coils from China. So it showing 1.3 or 1.4 is normal even if it's listed as 1.0ohm? I was having the same issue with the Kanthal coils that I bought from them too.Morning shinies
The ohms will change depending on the length of your legs. Even half a mm in difference will show a different resistance. Don't worry about the differences between different coils - mine have different ohms too, even in two decks the same.
Plus ss316L rises in ohms as it heats, even up to 0.15ohms or so in difference. As a new builder, the first time I noticed that - I recoiled that deck 3 times as I thought it was a loose leg. But it was just ss316L working as it should![]()
Don't worry the coils will settle in. As @AngeNZ pointed out SS does that. That's why TC users like it so much. The .1 difference didn't worry me. It was that it was listed as a 1.0 coil on the package and they were .3 to .4 times off that.
But should the Kanthal coil be showing a .3 to .4 ohm difference in what is listed too?Don't worry the coils will settle in. As @AngeNZ pointed out SS does that. That's why TC users like it so much.
No it shouldn't.But should the Kanthal coil be showing a .3 to .4 ohm difference in what is listed too?
Mass produced from China, not unusual or unexpected. The coils themselves are fine, just not wrapped for accuracy. The .1 difference didn't worry me. It was that it was listed as a 1.0 coil on the package and they were .3 to .4 times off that.
I'm using it in one of my Dvarws. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with changing the ohms. I never noticed that with my other Dvarws. No it shouldn't.
I still wouldn't stress about it. That's minimal + what atty are you using it in? Could your atty maybe not add to the resistance?
I am not super concerned about consistency, but was more worried about if the coils were bad or if they had a short or something. And I do have a few spools of wire and wrap my own on occasion.Frankly if you are after consistency you should buy a spools and wrap your coils or order premades from a vendor that is wire oriented like AVS or Wireoptim (Lightning Vapes Wire).
As long as you can get an even glow and the ohms for that individual coil are consistent when at room temp the coil is fine to use.I am not super concerned about consistency, but was more worried about if the coils were bad or if they had a short or something.
