Happy new year!
I've never had a problem with shorting, but also never used a 7 wrap. Sounds like you've got it sorted. The wick channels are also coil rod guides so there's not much danger of the coil shorting on the chimney roof if you keep the coil in that plane.Good to know about the wicking. Have you had any problems with a coil shorting? I redid mine this morning with a 2.5mm id 30*2/40 8 wrap, and it shorted like it was 1999. It was only when I popped the tank on - so I cut my leads shorter, still shorted. Squished the coil down lower - shorted. Raised it higher - shorted. Threw it out the window - shorted!
I looked at the chimney size and saw how small that was, and rewound a 7 wrap with the wraps a smidge off a contact coil. Stuck it in, cut the leads flush, wicked, stuck the tank on, fired - and it didn't short
Yesterday's coil was the same width, and I had no problems with that shorting. But with me, who knows what was causing it to short. The fact that I was building at 3am, with blurry eyes - possibly didn't help
Coil no. 3 has behaved flawlessly today. And I want another Box and Qbix!

That old 3am, blurry-eyed build has probably seen most of us come unstuck. I've made a pact with myself - never build after 2:45am![]()
Happy New Year to all the shiny people. May our differences continue to make us unique. May our shared love of a hobby keep us all friends. Maybe we continue to treat each other with respect despite our different viewpoints on religion, politics, how good the darn Brunhilde is, etc. lol

Put in a new flavour order so not really shiny but they'll end up in something shiny so I guess that counts.
