I find no difference between spaced and contacts on any front. Except that the contact coils fare better for re-wicking and longevity of the coil itself.

Heat, flavor, vapor production, TH et all, imo, remain the same between the two.

The heat produced in a contacted coil is much higher then from spaced coils... this is why I aim for different ohm range when building contacted coils. All though spaced coild tend to wick better and guck up less... flavour is better on spaced coils imo but thats just personal preference.
I would agree that a contact is a little hotter but much higher, not so sure. I think if your vaping the maximum wattages on these rta's , let's say just to there burning points , then I feel you may see a little difference between the 2 coils but from what I see here, most are vaping 10 to 15 watts and in those ranges I just doubt there is much difference between the two coils when all else is equal. Honestly if I were to have 2 totally exact k4's, both same juice, same everything, both at 15 watts with the only difference is one has a coil with slight gaps, your going to tell me that you could really notice the difference?

I prefer spaced coils on all I vape. I just get more flavor that way.
Hey ricks! Been a while, how's everything? I do here that about spaced coils and more flavor and tbh, I do both from time to time. Sometimes if my contact coil doesn't sit just right or whatever, I space it. I probably do more contact coils but even right now I have 6 tanks going and 2 have spaced and tbh I couldn't tell you which ones are which. I think if one believes one is better , that's the main thing because it creates confidence which in turns creates better builds. I think certain things happens like this, let's say one says they prefer a 1.3 build better then a 1.7 and in all that time they were using a different juice , so instead of maybe realizing it was a different juice , they thought it was the resistance, or maybe you bought an atomizer in January and it was 20 degrees for the first few weeks, the vape was good but maybe you got some occasional dry hits, now you switched to a 1.7 coil and the vape seemed much better , but at the same time the weather changed and instead of being 20 it was 70 degrees. If one didn't count on the other factor, you would just swear the 1.7 coil is better and once you believe that , you might always think that. In all honesty , with all things being equal, there is no detectable difference between those 2 resistances imo in a blind taste test

Where have you been? Doing well. I am always messing with different size wires and wicks. It can be crazy at times trying to get the best flavor with so many different tanks. I just find I get more flavor with spaced coils. I always try new tanks with tight coils but always end up spreading them out. I still only vape my 2 100% PG liquids. I just love these flavors and switch between them every night. I always have to have 2 of every tank I use. I usually get an extra tank of each that I like and experiment with that one while vaping the others. It's fun and gives me something to do. Being retired so young I get bored too easily and Vaping has become a big filler in my days.

I haven't tried this mini V3 yet but I keep thinking about it.

Well that's a mouthful, moon mountain mother of mars! I personally think a tight coil needs a rewick more often because in time the build up has an easier time getting stuck and bridging the coil and obviously once that happens you get a nasty taste. Although a spaced coil may fare longer before getting the nasties, I think the cotton between the coils gets a little nasty and starts darkening your juice quicker making the whole tank not as fresh. It all seems simple enough , but there are so many factors to building, it's hard to really pin point something without a lot of time... but as for sort of burnt hits solely from the difference of a spaced vs a non, not sure about that.

As I mentioned, in the K4 I use a 3mm tight coil around 1.2 ohm, that's been my go to coil for a while, after about a week of daily use, 1.5-2 tanks daily, it's time to re-wick. It is probably the only tank that can last that long, my other daily tank is the Lemo2, I can probably go 3-4 days with that one. But with the K3 Mini I have to re-wick after 2 days, 3 max.

Tonight I will do a 3mm Kanthal tight coil to replace the spaced coil, and compare the two. But for me, so far, the spaced coil has worked better, as far as flavor. I've had the same results in my Lemo2 as well.

Is it possible that because it is wicking better, therefore more juice on your cotton, results in more flavor? Maybe some of us have more sensitive tongues than others :D

In the guitar world we use the term "tone is subjective" a lot, we all hear different things... I would say that flavor/taste is also subjective in the vape world ;)

Yes I have been away for a while because my mother was sick and had to move in with us, she was here for almost a year and looking after her was pretty taxing. Anyways I'm back and have definitely missed everyone. I also don't own the mini yet but will be ordering Thursday once back in town. I'm looking at 3 different tanks that I hope to aquire soon, this mini, the hurricane, and the elusive ubertoot!

Rewicking the mini sooner because the cotton has burned? Or just because the flavor is off and it needs rewicking? If it just needs a rewick because it's just time, I can see that with both a contact coil and because it's a smaller atty. I do think certain tanks vary in time between rewicks and I also believe a spaced coil can go a little longer before needing a change.

No doubt....... I remember when pluid came out and was all the rave. You couldn't even obtain any because it was so sought after. Anyways i finally got some and nearly puked, it was horrible! I still have it in my vape draw, it's got to be at least 3 years old and maybe 2 months ago I tried it again and it was still nasty.

I find that with spaced coils it is allowing each wrap that touches the wick heat and produce more flavor at each wrap than one being choked out in a tightly wrapped one. This is only my opinion and what I find with every tank I use.
See I have always thought the flavor was better in a contact (which I really think there is not much difference ) because each individual wrap in a spaced coil is touching the wick alone and creating to much heat individually compared to a even consistent heat of a one piece coil. Honestly you might be right because I hear it alot, it just may be that I can't detect the difference because of my particular taste buds.

Hope your Mother is OK... Now, we all know that taste is subjective... Heard that thousands of times in the forums. A coil tight or spread out is the same, Maybe??? For my vaping, spread coils create the best flavor. Let's get a poll going and see what everyone prefers. I'm curious

This feels encouraging.
SvoëMesto taking delivery of a new CNC machine?
This image almost laughs in the face of the TPD and FDA regs...

Not burnt but it starts tasting funky and not so fresh... even though when I remove the base and take a look at the coil/wick it doesn't really look that bad, but I can tell it needs to be re-wicked.

With the tight coil, the first coil I did in the Mini, it started tasting kinda burnt after one day, and I re-wicked it twice, just to make sure I didn't screw anything up on my first attempt. But this was with a smaller ID, 2.5mm.

I do think the smaller deck/chamber has something to do with this, and also the better flavor I'm getting compared to the K4, even though it's only a tiny bit better. But I'm really loving not having a 1000 tiny pieces to deal with!
