Anyone care to enlighten me as to why there is so much ProVari bashing? One example is price. So many times I've read the ProVari is very expensive blah blah blah, while in the next thread I'm reading about another mod selling for significantly more without any mention of price. I don't get it. I feel one should purchase within a personal comfort zone and not a penny more. Why bash a mod because you can't afford it or don't feel comfortable spending it's asking price? It's a mystery to me.

It is more expensive? Ok, I admit, I got lucky, but ... at $130 for a blem it's just not that expensive. Especially if you do not like PWM. When my backup Spinner died after less than two weeks (ok, I put a KFL+ on it, my bad) I could see two paths. Keep buying $30-40 'spares' I really didn't like, end up playing $80 for an MVP2 at the local B&M because I had nothing working, or buy one device that would work, no matter what. I picked door number 3. Insofar as reliability, there's actually an even better measure. Resale value. Things that break don't get resold for nearly the same price as new or more. How many used Provari's are for sale used compared to DNA or SX chip devices? Same with Reo, actually. You see them used. And if I get another device other than the P3, it may be a box mod if the P3 isn't.

Why the hate? I think it's inability to do the math I just did above. People who've bought all these other devices facing the fact they keep buying devices. How many DNA/SX devices are still working flawlessly, both electronically and cosmetically after over a year? 60-70%? I'm talking every day, day in and day out. Now most people who use these don't use them like that. They're one of a collection and get swapped out. So lets say devices that have over 2000 hours on them. I wouldn't guess very many from the resales.

Someone here recently brought up Kitchen-Aide mixers, and I think they're the perfect equivalent. I've used one that was nearly 50 years old and had seen extremely heavy use. It worked perfectly. That's a Provari. People whine and complain about the price of both and how they don't have all the bells and whistles and ...

They work. I think it's jealousy. Every time one of those other mods breaks or gets flaky or starts falling apart, it's "I coulda bought a Provari."

Without a doubt!!!
I'm ok with high quality clones of mechs, RBAs and RDAs; but, I would not buy a clone with electrical components. I came close with the HANA clones; that was until I did 10 minutes of research. Besides there are only 2 companies whose clones I will buy from now on. To me it's; because, not much can really go wrong with those, no board to break, no wires that can be under-rated, no solder errors, or epoxy. So long as the material is high grade and the machining done well, a clone mech or RBA should be just fine; at least that's been my experience thus far.

I look at the clone mechs much like famous artwork. The clones do not take any business from the original mfr. By cause in reality, what you pay for in a Nemesis vs. A ChiYou is not quality, or warranty or reliability..but you are paying for the artistry in the design (unlike cloned regulate mods, where you are seeing many other factors in play). The folks who would spend the money on an original would never go with a clone...those with a clone budget would probably never buy an original.

As to comparing to artwork, many of us can admire DaVinci, Warhol or VanGogh, but would never buy an original...but would think nothing of putting a print of one of their works on their wall

We're going to agree to disagree on this one. Plain and simple, clones are theft of Intellectual Property. They are not art. Otto Carter makes art from mods, and I'm surprised those haven't been cloned. To each their own, but if I can't afford the one made by the original manufacturer, I'm not buying it.
