I must be missing something here. I called Starbucks corporate office yesterday and asked if they had a ban on electronic cigarettes in their establishments and if so why. The representative was very nice and said she did not know and that she would have to ask her supervisor. After about five minutes she came back and said that they had checked and there is no ban.

*****This was a response I put in a thread about Starbucks banning ecig use in their stores. I felt this was important enough to post for more to see. *****

To be totally and completely honest, I honestly feel that we are digging ourselves into a hole that we may not be able to climb out of. I personally have not tried aerating in a Starbucks and I won't because of the fact that when I smoked analogs I never whipped out a cigarette and tried smoking in one. Starbucks is a COFFEE shop. We should be lucky that there are even bars that allow us to use our PV's and don't make us conform to the non-smoking ban they've put in motion on real cigs. The way I feel about it is, we have a chance to do a lot of good and spread the information about our cause but it is flat out unreasonable for us to demand something that wasn't remotely possible when we used analogs. We wonder why so much is negatively said about our use of PV's but don't stop to take a look in the mirror and realize that pushing our choice on other people may not be the best way to get vaping seen as a ray of hope. I am proud to be an ecig user which is why I joined this forum but I can't agree with the "bans" we put in place on establishments that ask us to respect their decisions while giving them reasons to disrespect ours.

Sincerely, Jeromiah Emanuel, Proud Ecig User.

Since the post appeared, I always figured the OP was just opening a general debate .. not necessarily centered around Starbucks ..

Thanks but I think the denial by Starbucks makes many points in this thread moot. The OP did start off making note of a Starbucks ban and to me that is unfair to Starbucks. My opinion and patronage would be vastly different had this apparent rumor been true.

For nothing? Quite the contrary!

If this doesn't PROVE that you must DETERMINE THE FACTS BEFORE <insert almost anything here>, I don't know what does.

While certain exchanges did involve the specific chain, my overall message was always much broader.
Besides, expression of my views doesn't directly impact your life and that's why I didn't bother. If I ever was trusted with such responsibilities, I would quadruple check everything. It is quite apparent some that do have this "responsibility" think otherwise:

This thread is hilarious. I can understand people wanting to be polite, don't vape if the people around you don't want it. Let them be ignorant, or just be themselves. Or go the other route, and force it on them because it's not really against the law. Lol. "what are you gonna do about it?"

Vaping, or curse words? Is it against the law to spew dirt out of your mouth like a sailor at applebees? Well. No. Does that mean you should? Well. No. Because it's rude. Plain and simple.

Hmmm. Maybe those reformed smoker douche bags are all just a bunch of self absorbed jerk offs? Nice image.

Good golly miss Molly. I have to pick out the perfect interior latex eggshell for my new home office without vaping??? How the heck am I supposed to do that? Those punks at the hardware store don't know the scientific facts about PV's and their effect on the human body (of course all of the reports and research on the topic is 100% unofficial by any means). For F sake, 'vaporBob129' posted a very comprehensive excel chart on the contents of an eliquid vapor on ECF the other day. Turns out it isn't just water vapor, it also has trace amounts of sunshine and hugs. It's on the Internet, it must be true. We must educate the world!! We'll get a head start by forcing it on them. Just like crapping my pants, it doesn't cause anyone any physical harm, and it's very convenient for me, and it's not against the law...sweet. Starbucks coffee and a nice big bran muffin, I'll never have to give up my favorite table to go to the bathroom. I can just poop my pants, and no one can do anything about it!

Anyway. Stop being an ... and don't vape to create controversy. Let haters hate. Don't get dragged in. Oops. Like me. Guess I'd better stop hating.

Ps. I'm rarely without my riva and at least two bottles for dripping. Or my 510 in public places. Stealth.

While vaping in public, I never had one complaint from anyone. All I get is wow does that really work, thats great. Where can I get one. All positive conversions about it. If I ever have someone complain about me vaping, I would just put it away and then say these things helped me quit smoking and that they are harmless.

True. Even when I vaped in Philly international. Nobody even asked.

The ones that usually ask are smokers, "do those things really work?". I just stick to the word on the street (lol FDA). I say. "well, <long drag and exhale of delicious vapor>, yeah. It's working just fine.".

Damn I love vaping.

I tried getting my smoker friends into It (mostly to have buddies to trade and chat with). But after a couple months it hasn't worked. Oh well.

Tell me 'bout it! Disappointing, but I'm still advocating...

Lordy. My wife hated my smoking. My kids will hopefully never remember it. How ironic. My wife gets miffed when I order liquid and such. Lol

I was really hoping my old smoke buddy at work (gave me his old smoke 51 and got me started in vaping) would keep with it. It would be so cool if he came in on Monday and told me about the kick ... LR atty deal he got and the serious vapor and TH he got out of his latest liquid.

Ahh. <dream clouds float around my coconut>

Post #263 (pg 27) was the response to my question concerning this ban:
"i work for starbucks and there was an internal memo about our policy on electronic cigarettes. probably wont be a press release or anything as I doubt there has been much research done into it from starbucks...yet =)"

I'm wondering if the store manager, or someone else in "authority", just said there was an internal memo to this person?

Also, has anyone looked at this study?

It must be noted, this study has to do with what the Vaper is inhaling, not what is exhaled.

I mostly don't vape where smoking isn't allowed (for the most part though occasionaly stealth). I do however get annoyed that places that used to allow smoking before the ban here now don't allow vaping. Like Red lobster....Always enjoyed a smoke after my meals there and it was our goto place for family celebrations. Asked one time since I started vaping and they said no so now I just don't go there. Each of our gatherings included at minimum 16 people but I am sure they don't notice the dip in revenue...drop in the bucket...but "I" feel better anyway :p.

I NEVER use the designated smoking areas...I don't SMOKE so why expose myself to all the smells and carcinogens?

It must be noted, this study has to do with what the Vaper is inhaling, not what is exhaled.

That's a rather interesting study. I've seen this method of testing used a few times. The biggest gripe associated with it? Most people don't use their PV's upside down.

Aside from that. 120 inspirations of PV versus 15 inspirations analogs. Seems in the cigs favor. Did they change the cart during the test?

The cigarette is 4 to 5 times more likely to inhibit cell viability in fibroblasts? Amazing. Lol.

Unless my Italian is worse than I think, this study (commissioned by a PV producer) has nothing to do with carcinogens or actual physical long term effects of exposure or inhalation of PG, VG, nicotine or the byproducts of PV liquid atomization (directly or second hand).

I could have done this same test for less money. Blow smoke and then vapor into a jar with a spider in it. See which one pisses him off the most.

I understand a laboratory did this study, and there are a lot of big words in it. And it probably cost a lot of money. But that doesn't change the fact that it is meaningless.

You want a concrete fact? Does it hurt when you inhale (TH)? Yes? Well guess what. Pain is your body's way of saying 'this is not right'. I don't care if it is 50% or 100% or 450% safer than cigarettes. It still is not natural or actually healthy (it's just not really unhealthy).

It's reports like these that get too many people on a soap box accusing the rest of the world of being ignorant.

That's why I don't shove my PV down people's throats. Just my own. Well, unless their smokers, because anything is better than cigarette smoke. They can kiss it.
