Drilled out the airholes in a T3 base to 7/32. Much better airflow. up to 9 watts on the Zmax now.
Totally agree, Andria. I recently got a new Dell computer and absolutely hate this keyboard. I tried to use my old "clicky" keyboard but the computer (or it could be that godawful Windows 10) won't recognize it.
I did/do the same thing. But not at university. We are a Mac family and I hated the new flat thin key keyboards. I had a couple of the older big normal keyboards and they are my workhorses when I am on the Big Macs. I found a couple at a local computer mart and reconditioned them. They have the right spacing and indented keys. I have not worn the numbers off them.
When I was at university (centuries ago) I used to re type textbooks to get the information into my brain.

Have you looked at keyboards from Das, Ducky and WASD?I think the "mechanical" nature is why I love IBM keyboards so much, aside from the fact that the letters are spaced PROPERLY (for those of us who actually learned to type ON A TYPEWRITER!) -- nice clicky noise and feel. I had to get rid of my last one because the spacebar died.
These newfangled "soft touch" keyboards TOTALLY SUCK. Aside from the fact that they're not spaced correctly, there is SUPPOSED TO BE some feedback from the keys, not dead silence.
I really wish new keyboard manufacturers would get it thru their dense heads that you can't just change the layout spacing willynilly and expect touch-typists to be able to type accurately on the stupid things. It's like deciding to make the white keys narrow and the black keys wide, on a piano -- it just doesn't work like that!

yeah a typical fiction paperback lasts me just maybe 2-3 hours depending on how complex the story line and how many pages.I am a speed reader so just reading was never quite enough. I type fast so it was a neat way of learning.
My first Dell, circa 2006, actually had a very nice keyboard... until I killed the spacebar (you can see my thumb is hell on spacebars!). My 2nd Dell was a refurb, and they stuck a cheapie keyboard with it, which completely sucked.
The one I use now, that I've relabelled about 4 times, is a Kensington; quite inexpensive, but the letters are *mostly* spaced correctly -- my only serious complaint is that it's not *quite* wide enough -- I often end up hitting the caps lock instead of the A -- and there is some dysfunction with the right shift key, which causes me to often hit the enter key instead.
I think keyboard manufacturers think they've done enough just to lay the letters out in the usual QWERTY fashion, and they couldn't be more wrong; it's down to millimeters, if not micrometers, of spacing, as to whether a trained typist can actually type on it accurately.
I also have to keep a slit cardboard tube wrapped around my F9-F12 keys, so I don't constantly hit them when I backspace, which illustrates that the F keys are not far enough from the QWERTY keys.
It's maddening.

I can understand your use to what you have and you dont want to change no matter what, but we are way past the age of typewriters and many people on a daily basis professionally type on the newer style keyboards. Eventually you wont be able to get the keyboard you feel is what they should all be like and will have to eventually learn the newer ones. just sayin.....
I don't know what the problem is here. But I am near to desperation - it springs and writes suddenly somewhere else, marks instead of writing or deletes ... it is not *such* a crap, not made for MAC but should work anyway ... this one. I took it because I wanted to try the touchpad because of problems with mouse arm. But the touchpad does not solve the mouse arm problem, so I bought a cheap vertical mouse, just to try if it basically works.
And my cheap Anker vertical mouse works beautifully, no pains now - but this keybord is killing me ...![]()
Here ya go you Typewriter people!!
I wish I had a good old IBM Keyboard!! I hate you people, now im looking for another good Mechanical Keyboard!! Not paying $450 for a vintage IBM one either!! lolI have seen them and they brought back memories of my learning to type classes when the big excitement was the day you were elevated to the IBM selectric golfball typewriter. Hehe and the big decision was to pick the green ones or the blue ones.![]()
