what is it with the bread and milk thingumy

Doh.

It's for the children, must protect them....

Only half joking on that. But if the conditions persist through the weekend, all those with kids will have them home from school, so PBJ and milk for 'em, maybe hot cocoa when they come in from playing in the snow. :)

Nobody really knows, I don't think; it's just this weird mentality that southerners get, when the weatherman says a single word about any frozen precip, all the crazy southerners head to the store to buy bread and milk... and bottled water, if they're on a well, because most wells have electric pumps. If you live way out in the boonies enough to have a well, and the power goes off... well, you may not have power again for 7-14 days.

Not just a southern thing. Up North it was the pre battle cry before a storm hit. I had to laugh because first sign of storm and everyone and their mothers was at the super market. The shelves were empty in hours!!

I didn't know that! When I lived in MI and the weatherman said snow, most folks were like, "yeah, so what?" That was when I first developed my weather channel addiction; as soon as we passed thanksgiving, it was all weather channel all the time, while I eagerly awaited snow. :D Then learned, it doesn't always snow a lot in the Detroit area; when we moved to Lake Orion, just north of Pontiac, I got to see some SNOW! The first winter, I saw it drop about 30 inches of snow in about 90 minutes -- I was both thrilled and appalled!

Fraidy is 14 years old and the snow is tall as he is. He does appreciate me clearing snow for him.

We let our kitty experience snow, in Feb 2014.... she took about 3 steps, lifting up her paws like "oh, ick!" then meowed and ran back into the garage! I don't think she was impressed. :D

The other day when it started sleeting, she'd been sitting in front of the sliding glass door... when all the ice pellets started making their usual racket, she ran and hid!
