My SO likes colors. So she asked me if it was possible to put 1-2 drops of food grade coloring to the juice, to make it look "cool".

I've never thought about that. But it is doable?

Yes it is possible, and there are juice manufacturers that do it, but that doesn't make it a good thing.

I am completely aware of that it's not healthy. Again, this is something that'd be cool to try out on or two times.

If you want to try it one or two times, just to impress others or take a cool photo of your devices, OK. Just not as a general rule. Better to get tinted tanks. Some juices look brownish or orangish naturally.

I don't have a target atty mate, it's more for my general learning ATM (I do have an atty under design though)

First I look at the air port, the coil should be smaller than the airstream hitting it. If the coil is too wide (OD) the side away from the air port will over heat and add a burnt/off flavor. If it is too long the outside wraps will overheat.

Now that I have a size to build i'll choose from spaced, bowed, contact, chimney, horizontal, vertical coil types.

Then using the smallest usable wire figure out the configuration that will cover the surface area of wick I want and be in the resistance range the power supply can handle for the power required. Single wire, parallel wire(s), etc.

Consider this:
It is food grade, not lung grade.

Nope. Any design that moves mass away from the wick makes more hot air than vapor.

Smaller wire has more usable contact area than thick wire over a given surface area. Also with more wraps of small wire you get better vapor venting away from the wick between the wraps.

Yes, you need more wraps. But I thought that thin wire reacts quicker and as a consequence, gets/may get hotter than a somewhat thicker wire - so how to make a good bargain?

This "venting away from the wick between the wraps " is one of the reasons why I never make microcoils.

Speaking of coloring, I really want to check out a bottle of Mad Murdocks Radiator Pluid one of these days for the total anise OVERLOAD!

They say you can cut it by 75% and it still has a wicked anise flavor!

I want to get some of that blue/green juice that Obi (Dirk Oberhaus) always features in his YouTube videos. Does anyone (possibly @nebulis) know what it is he is using?

This is based on a myth/ misunderstanding about thermal capacitance. With thick wire because of the slow heat up you can over power the coil and vape on the heat up, but take too long a puff and it will over heat. Smaller wire is exactly the same, you can over power the coil for the legnth of puff you want to take.

Now if you dont over power, the advantage with small wire is you can set the power level to reach a chosen temperature equilibrium and it will come up to that temp and level off much faster than thick wire.

I think you mean 'contact coils'. A microcoil is a coil with an ID between 1.5-1.9mm (spaced or contact).

Seems like Clapton coils would vaporize the eliquid on the underside of the coil and heat it more as it passes thru the openings in the clapton coil.
But they would also be prone to gunk plugging up those openings in the coil?

Sorry ... I don't watch Obi any more, nothing for tootlers in his reviews .
But it is possible that he uses colored liquid only for demonstration purposes.
