@gt_1955 - thank you :) - I am rifling through the Steam-Engine calculators, but I see folks talking about running the SS coils on non-TC devices. So, if that's viable, what's the rationale for not just switching to all SS, instead of a mix of Kanthal, Ni200, Ti, and SS? There's discussion that Ni200 isn't all that great, and that Ti (above certain temperatures - which I don't ever see myself hitting) could be toxic. After whizzing through the calcs, I'm building coils with a resistance range more like Ti, but it's potentially safer?

Can it be a tension coil or does it have to be spaced like Ni200?

I'm pretty happy with my Kanthal - but, I know it, and it just *works*. However, I have a couple of TC rigs now, and I'm trying to see what that's all about. I can run them in VV/VW mode, so I'll always be able to use them.

I run SS430, Nickel free according to Unkamen Supplies. 28AWG.

On a 2mm(ish) screwdriver shaft I roll around 9 wraps and that fits my Tobeco Orchid just fine.
0.63ohms.

SS430 is great, I also have a 1.3ohm build on a 30mm Perseus and a 1.0 ohm build on a Kraken.
I can put them on any device I own.

On the Mini+, I run them in TI mode. Currently the 0.63 ohm build at 250F. You start at 200F and go up until you find where you want it to be.
Works great, No dry hits and it does recognise a dry coil just fine.

I see no reason for myself to use any other wire, it is so versatile. Does everything I need it to do.

I can see myself getting a mod that has a SS mode in it, just to see how it would do compared to the Mini+ which is "Tricked" in to doing it in TI mode.

SS430 is a bit springy, I wrap it as tight as I can and use pliers to really pull it tight when done. Then torch it and squeeze it together for a almost touching coil, but not quite.

Again, I like it a lot.

Must have a magnet in the bottom to stick on the wall that way.
Go to a B&M and ask about a Manhattan/Fuhattan/New Yorker and the first thing they do is stick the mod to the side of something with the bottom magnet. lol Its like their sale technique for how strong the firing mechanism is!

Mine are tensioned contact coils, and yes ... SS has made all other coil materials redundant IMO provided low ohm coils fit your vaping profile.

Low ohm is the clincher there.
Kanthal for me.
