Why would you? I always *smoked* immediately after all my root canals.

Anyone who told me I had to not smoke... or now, not vape... I just laugh at them. :D

Andria
Yeah just don't vape on a Vivi Nova. Those things will make you eyeballs sink in your face when you suck on em.

While of course we're all different, the big thing after oral surgery is to NOT apply so much suction that you pull the packing and lot out. Dry socket can result, and that's absolutely NO FUN.

Airy topper and higher than normal nic, so you don't vape as often, has worked for me in the past. YMMV.

There's no open wound with a root canal, as there is with an extraction. It's basically no different from a cavity being filled, except they hand-drill to get into the nerve canal and remove the nerve; afterward, the tooth is sealed.

Andria

ETA: I always smoked after extractions too, though I cut the filters in half to avoid such hard suction -- it made them much easier to smoke and less painful, and less chance of making bleeding start again.

In which case, I'd probably have loved them, before I got accustomed to rebuildables. The Achilles' draw is very similar to a carto.

Thank you one and all!!

I'll now vape away with confidence and sans worry. I'll open up the draw...nice 'n airy.

Off I go. Now, where'd I put my big girl pants?...

Cheers

You know what the worst part of a root canal is? Having your mouth open for that long. That's it. It takes a good bit longer than a regular cavity being filled because of the hand drilling, but I find the hand-drilling FAR less traumatic than the dang electric drilling... but your mouth does get tired, and afterward, there's some discomfort in the jaw muscles from being "opened wide" for so long. Other than that... piece of cake.

I woke up this morning thinking about @fourthrok and her husband - wondered how he was doing. And it dawned on me; I don't know them, not in the been-friends-for-years sense.

But that's what this Tootle Puffers group is, for me at least - a group of folks I've never met face-to-face. Kind of like a good book with a cast of characters whose faces I construct in my imagination.

As a newb I mostly joined the Tootle Puffers to learn, which I have and still continue to. The surprise was meeting a diverse, fun, silly, helpful and caring bunch of folks who are strung together by this thing called vaping. I realize it's much more than that. And I'm thankful.

I'm not juskiddin :)

Have a great day everyone. I'm off to get a root canal today. The fun never stops.

Cheers
JK
Oh..good lord...a root canal? You have my deepest sympathies!!!!
Thanks for thinking of us like that! I feel the same way. I don't really know anyone here...not in RL, anyway. But I feel like I've made some wonderful, caring friends here in Tootlers Puffers ...and I'm glad I finally decided to take the plunge and jump in! I used to participate in ECF a lot in 2012 and 2013...but I hadn't been active here for nearly 2 years when Kat collared me and got me to come back . Thanks @Katdarling !

Hope everyone is having a good day (mine is getting a bit better)...regardless of root canals or whatever!!

When my first husband (now deceased) had all his top teeth pulled in preparation for dentures (we're going back to the 1980s here) he was told to not smoke. He did anyway. No..he didn't die from that..lol! He carried on quite awhile. But cigarettes did kill him about 10 years later.

I smoked after every extraction I've had. I still have no earthly idea what a "dry socket" is.

I for one am glad you found the path to this little corner.

I wake up each morning and wonder what creepy, weird or scary things you all have been chatting about,

Today is going to be a great day.

I admit to smoking after everything.

I can remember a day surgery knee op where I staggered outside the moment I could stand. The old days. :(

They told me I would nauseous. Did it stop me Heck no.

I had my son by caesarian... and the very next morning, I was demanding the removal of my catheter and my IV on wheels, so I could stagger to the smoking area -- which hospitals had, in 1988. Hospitals used to be places of mercy; now they're hotbeds of intolerance and ignorance.

Husband is currently in the hospital and was complaining about being thirsty and how dry and chapped his lips were. Well, of course they are! PG is pumped through most hospitals in the air systems to keep down the germs/viruses! Seriously! Also, hubs and I were talking yesterday about how, since we quit smoking and started vaping, we've really not had any colds or 'flu or anything in the past 4-5 years. Once or twice a bit of a tickle in the throat...that feeling "something is coming on". Take an Airborne and BAM! The sick is gone and we're back in business again. I think vaping (we both vape high PG) has a lot to do with it. Him being sick now has nothing to do with airborne viruses or germs....it's an internal organ thing.
We're in the same boat now, only in my case its my 73 year old father who was admitted in hospital today with bad case of pneumonia. Antibiotics he'd gotten last week didn't catch on (they're really careful with prescribing antibiotics in NL). I'm a bit scared, I lost my mom just 4 months ago, so.... Going over to see him this weekend, hopefully he can go home on Saturday or Sunday.
Wishing you and your husband all the best, hope he can go home soon too!

I'v had TONS of mouth work done. What I use to do was take some gauze, soak it in water then put it where they pulled the tooth and bite down while taking a draw from a cig. :) I'v never gotton dry socket, my theory is the wet gauze keeps he blood clot sealed..
