I was thinking 'the whoas of braking in a new atty'.

New atties are full of a nasty tastin' primer.
Clean em really good before using.
Some are fine. The Subtank Minis I got were fine. Just a quick rinse and used em. The Lemo2 on the other hand required some cleaning.

And it is not just attys. I got a couple of mech mods recently and the threading seemed a bit wonky. Cleaned the threading with qtips and alcohol and now silky smooth.

I was referring to old 510 atties specifically.
We all had our own 'routines' that we did before we ever lit one up.
The wire mesh in those 510s holds a lot of "stuff".

Ahh. I cleaned the second one with Alcohol. shot alc with a syringe down thru the holes a bunch of times and let it dry for a day. Was ok but not great on flavor.
Not complaining for .89 each. But was expecting more. Like Velocity grade flavor or at least as good as a STM.

It still comes down to the same formula for best flavor; ideal coil temperature & AFR (air fuel ratio).
With a 510 atomizer the wicking (fuel) is a constant (it is what it is). So you need to match the power (coil temperature) and air flow (how forcefully you draw) to the wicking ability of the atomizer.
Once broken in, there is nothing in a 510 atomizer to impede flavor.

What wattage do you vape them at, tj? I got a bunch of those from Vapor Bank as well, but haven't tried them yet. I thought I'd use them for juice tasting when I DIY.

Back in the day the overwhelming majority vaped @ 8 watts. I liked "my favorite" 510 atty @ ~7.5 watts.
I used the original style LR 510-T atomizer with the wick plate removed.

(it was like a 306 atty inside a 510 tube)
Then in 2013 JoyeTech redesigned the atty to death. That's when I switched to the A7 RDAs that I could make perform like the old style 510-Ts.

Tried just a straight evod battery then 7-8 watts on a Zmax. Both worked but I was just a bit disappointed in the performance flavor wise.
Will play with them some more as I got them to test juice with. But so far the flavor is lacking so they just test in the ballpark.

Hmmm.... how else would you fill it, if not from the top? It doesn't have one of those pesky "fill holes" on the bottom.

Just using it as a plain dripper, it's really only good for tasting, because no way I'm gonna go around dripping for every hit.

You have to unscrew the entire bottom deck. If you unscrew the top I expect all your fluff will come out with the top. In drip mode it holds 1.7 ml. Three fills a day for me, hardly takes a second to fill.

I go out and about with the Prometey no problem. YMMV :D

Excellent @Robert Cromwell !! When they diagnose you as an Aspie (which they will) then there are meds they will give that will help. They can't do anything for the gifted portion of your brain but look at it as a blessing rather than a curse... I used to view it as a curse but they are getting me to realize it's a gift rather than a curse. Now days (probably from aging) I could care less what people think of my Asperger's and ADD..... I figure if they don't like it then they can go get bent lol...... I used to worry about what others thought but not any more.

The Docs can't properly help unless they know everything so don't skip telling them any of the details. Make them aware that other folks are suspecting you have Asperger's..... Also make them aware of any depressions or anxieties........ I am super glad to hear that you are finally going to a doc :)
Asperger and ADD can be a blessing sometimes... Here doctors are so behind that my type 2 Asperger (is there a thing such as an empathic asperger? ME!!!) was diagnosed at age 50. So you develop your things in time. I see other people as too trusting, but I have to back up on my distrust of everything...
    Still, I don't understand people!

Absolutely, whatever pleases you. Just know that you have a great backup in the drawer. ;)

As Neil sung "I could be happy for the rest of my life with a Prometey."

I've looked at the definition and description of Asperger's many times, but always conclude that that couldn't possibly be my problem, because I've always had extremely strong powers of empathy -- when you grow up in a house with an alcoholic, violent mother, you have to learn to "smell" or "feel" the emotions in a room before you fully enter it, to know how to conduct yourself and avoid outbursts of rage.

I've come to the conclusion that I am just *different* from other people, which is why I'm a hermit, and have no actual "friends" -- fighting that difference, denying it, is absolutely useless; I just am. Since I accepted that fact, I've been a lot happier, and fortunately, my husband accepts it too (which my mother never did), and doesn't try to "make me" or urge me to be someone other than who I am.

I have on particular liquid that only works in a very few toppers so I got these for that eliquid.

I have both xploras and both spheroids running and I just fill the fluff in the morning and off I go. Except for the initial build where I did not have enough fluff and I flooded one there have been no leaks and the taste is lovely. The spheroids are a bit tighter airflow, all of them have ecowool wicks and they keep up, I am a convert.....the decks are easy and after the initial build of 1.5mm looped ecowool I went to 2mm single, the ends get a bit fury after a dry burn but the taste came back beautifully. Only vaping at 8w and one is on a smoke winder battery. Looks sleek and its easy to throw in a case for out and about.

I didn't end up using the 3mm Eckowool, it would have been quite the large loop. There were a couple of 6" long 2mm silica wicks and some smaller ones in with the bag of FeV parts that I used instead.

On a 2.5mm contact 28g coil I pulled a 1mm piece of silica through and then folded the 2mm in half and pulled the loop through with a piece Kanthal. I pulled the loop up and even on the one end and trimmed the loose ends on the other to reach the polyfil.

How tight is the Silica supposed to be in the coil? Is it better to use a spaced coil and just wrap it around the Silica using a pin for support?

    Thanks!
Silica usage was before my time... ;):D
    :)

This is how I set up my Spheroid: 1mm silica approx 60mm long folded in half. Support the silica with a sewing needle (or 18AWG blunt) and wrap your prepared wire firmly around the silica. Space the coils as this reputed provides the best wicking with silica. Once your coil is wound and mounted on the deck, remove the needle and lightly pulse the coil. Trim the wick to the desired size, prime it and then assemble.

    Similarly with ecowool: I used 2mm but didn't loop it. I slid a 18AWG blunt inside the ecowool, then firmly wound a spaced coil around it. Once wound ... {same as silica}
