Look folks. All of that stuff is hilarious and I expected as much but; we need to get real here. Inexpensive mech mods are accidents waiting to happen and those accidents damage the reputation of our vice/hobby/NRT at a time when we cannot afford it. It's powerful ammunition for people with about as much sense as the subject of the OP. The militant defense of these devices when safer options are available is not helpful.

It think you mean cheaply made knockoffs. There are some quality inexpensive mechs out there...

Yeah, we had another guitar string question last night. I can see why folks are tempted, but I've played for 35 years and haven't used any strings that would be appropriate for vaping. There may be some, but none that I'm aware of.
I was looking at guitar strings last night and noticed they are claptons...

No, the quality of the mod wouldn't have stopped the user from trying to fire a paperclip coil.

Very true.

But if the user can't spend $5-10 on a spool of kanthal; how much will he/she be willing to spend on a mech mod.

You're right, probably nothing until the help of @EverPresentNoob came along. I too was skeptical at the cost of vaping when I first started. But I also knew the inherent dangers of larger, rechargeable batts and pushing them to limits. I did not "jump into the deep end of a waterless pool" like the person in this story. I started in the "baby pool and learned how to swim".

This was the 3rd vaping set up I ever purchased. A $20 Magneto. Inexpensive for sure, but a very decent piece of gear and still gets used almost daily after a year and a half. (Plume Veil in the pic, but I actually bought a Kracken that day. Was my first rebuildable.) I'd only been vaping for about 2 months and was still using a Nautilus on a Spinner. I spent 20 minutes in the shop after I bought it and let the guys show me how to build it and explain Ohm's Law and battery safety to me. Then they pulled out the build they put in it and had me rebuild it in front of them to make sure I didn't do anything stupid. They urged me to buy an ohm meter with it, but I already had a DMM at home, so passed on that.

A responsible vape shop staff will make sure that a newb knows what they are doing rather than just taking the money and pushing them out the door. If ALL vape shops did this, there would be a LOT less bad publicity about vaping. Mechs themselves aren't any more dangerous than a flashlight. Dumb:censored:es using them incorrectly IS a HUGE problem for the vaping industry though.

My $20 AMOD SMPL begs to differ, with proper use I have had zero issues. Mech mods are the best back up, its been fully submerged in water and all I had to do was replace the wick and battery and it fired like brand new, no chip to short, nothing. It's impossible to do the same with a regulated mod. Mechs will always be my out and about mod (fishing, hiking, etc.) a total ban would be a wrong move IMHO.

I almost pulled the trigger on a magneto but fell in love with the 26650 Sigelei Little White (hence my ECF handle) and learned to use mechs on that thing. It was the same price as the magneto (at the time). I still use it off and on almost a year later. Now he has a a few brothers and a whole bunch of little cousins!:)

Guess everyone needs to throw out all our REOs.

Yeah, cause that's what I said. Oh, and the last time I checked the REO wasn't an inexpensive mech mod. This is the :censored: I'm talking about. I'm going to add obtuse defense to my earlier "militant" description.

If you like 26650 mech, Vape NW has a solid copper Tobeco Chi Yu Megan clone for $20. Comes with both top caps. I almost pulled the trigger on that one the other day but got the Smok Silenus instead,

Nice! Ive been trying to hold out for the authentic. Best price I have seen was $89 but they were sold out before I could get to it. I've seen one for $130 recently but don't wanna pay over $100. I may end up getting the clone to see if I actually like it as much as I think I will.

Refusing to accept/respect the right of others to have their own opinion when it differs from yours is obtuse. Many who started vaping when "regulated mod" meant spending $200 for 20W of power started using mechs out of necessity and have done so for years without incident. I still use them because they are pocket friendly and durable. I choose to use clones because they are (with a few exceptions) just as good as the authentics and usually 25% of the price.
