I try to educate them with what little I know but always suggest they check out these forums. Most are receptive and curious and really find it amazing that I was able to cut back on analogs so quickly. There will always be those that are sceptical and all I can do is tell them about my experience with E-cigs and let them make the choice for themselves.

For me it depends on what the comments are and from who. If I had a better idea of what the exact words or comments were I might be able to provide some zingers, or witty responses.

Seeing as I don't I will generalize best i can.
If it is a smoker teasing me there is tons of ammunition to shoot back. Most of the information is spread all about these forums and various websites.
If it is a non smoker. Well in my case I have never drank coffee and rarely partake in any caffeine. Most people do, so I can compare my nicotine addiction to their caffeine one.
If it is a kid. Smack the crap outta that brat and teach him a lesson to never make fun of his uncle again. Just kidding.. well kinda. If it's a kid, then it's a kid. Kids make fun of adults, no matter what they are doing. That's the joy of being a kid, no responsibilities to yourself or others because you are going to live forever, and adults are weird.

In most cases I make people laugh and deflect any insults or criticism.
"Hey I have an emergency LED flashlight on me at all times"
"Has anyone ever asked you what you have been smoking? Well I can say I was smoking a watermelon, can you?"
"My PV can me used as a Morse code device, see S.O.S." <flash led of pv> When they ask if that really was sos or if you know Morse Code, laugh "Of course not"
"PG is used in hospitals and lab tests to kill viruses and other harmfull bacteria, you should be thanking me for saving all your lives."

and my list could probably go on and on... Hope it helps

People usually tease or diss things that are unknown, it's human nature. If they were educated on the subject they wouldn't have anything left to tease about. Educate them, it might help and it might not but at least your getting the word out. If it helps 1 person out of 100 it's worth it and the odd are much more in your favor than that. The others well, at least you tried.

I've converted 3 out of 4 people I've seriously talked to about the the subject so far. The 1 has went back to analogs but I'm not giving up.

As it was your nephew, and IF he a little kid (under 15) Id probably smile and agree 'yeah it is kinda weird looking but it keeps me off the cigs - makes me wish I'd never started smoking when I was your age and stupid - learn from me and dont start.'

Anyone else Id just ignore or smile and ignore - Im an adult so I can CHOOSE my reactions; smokers or ex-smokers spewing hate are just amusing :)

Like others have said, for a kid or adult it would be a different response:

For a kid, I'd just tease back. I might say, "Sure I look funny doing this, but at least my ears aren't too big for my head.", or some equally minor tease.

For an adult, anyone who knows me knows better than to tease me. A stranger teasing me, I'd probably look vaguely skyward and mutter to myself, "Should I kill him? I'd get in trouble... but then again, he'd be quiet then. Maybe if I just waited and caught him alone later where there won't be witnesses..."

That sort of thing cuts down a lot of unsolicited opinions of all sorts.

The only person who has made jokes about my smoking an e-cig is me. When my boss asked me about them today I said, "I'm a geek, I'm cheap, and I like smoking. This covers all my needs."

Just like in high school, the best way to avoid getting teased is to make the jokes yourself.

(I also tell more bald jokes and short jokes than anyone I know)

Usually I take it easy if they only tease me, but things get hotter when they are telling me, that PV is more dangerous than analogs, I consider them as ignorance people even my Dad (I sent him a couple of good information I got about what and why we do what we are doing now), I spent nearly 1.5 months gathering information about PV until I finally decide, this thing will make me stop smoking analogs, so when someone saying that vaping is the same or worse than smoking it's like an insult to my hard work.

My husband picks on me in fun and last night when we were out, he said something about me and my fake cigarette and I just replied, "jealous?" LOL His kit will be coming sometime today or tomorrow, so he really is because he's getting a bit antsy :) I'll probably reply the same way if someone else decides to poke at me for it.

u.k.
I've been vaping a good few months now and constantly get stick about it, especially when at the bar after a few beers with friends who smoke. But the other week whilst being the figure of fun a friend came back from the bar with the drinks coughing and spluttering so i told him that dispite my health problems i'm alot more healthier than him because i can walk from the bar without coughing up a lung. He had to admit defeat when others agreed with me, haven't had much remarks lately.

One nil to me :toast:

My kids are so proud that I've quit smoking analogs that they haven't said anything but good things about my pv.
I'm scared they may want to know when I'll stop using it. I don't want to. I haven't used it in public other than in
my car since I've only been vaping a week, but I don't care what anyone else thinks. I feel so much better. :)

My favorite line (read it from someone on this forum) is, "I'm just pretend smoking".

I use that one sometimes. I tell people I'm going to go pretend to smoke. Self-deprecating humor is the best deflection technique the world. I'm not overly concerned with what they think, but it really cuts down on what they can say when I already covered it.
