Hi, I'm one of the type who started with MTL and migrates to DL & subohming... now after a while (a gazillion number of cloud chasing tanks and powerful mods bought ), I found that I'm going back to my original style which is MTL.. and I wonder, why did I even migrate at the first place? for me, MTL setup with >1ohm setup is actually far more economic with using less juice, battery last longer and much more convenience and simplistic in day to day vaping.

My kayfuns and taifuns is back in my rotation now but somehow, looking for newer MTL tanks. Nowadays, new product tends to cater the DL community with ridiculous dual/triple/quadruple coils. I found that there is a new product which is the Cthulu MTL RTA and Augvape Merlin Mini. How's those two tank holdin' up with MTL style? Is it worth it or just stick with the old tanks.

Thanks.

Many are having the same experience and mtl is making a resurgence.

Imo get a kayfun mini v3. Mtl tank of the year.

Had that. I purchased it earlier during its launch but was only using a couple of tank full. After that, it sits away in my vape drawer till now. However, there's something that i don't like about it, too tall and too slim with 19mm dia. I found that i enjoy short tank with 22/23mm dia. Now, i vaped on kayfun lite with short tank/nano kit installed.

Yeah I didn't like the form at first either but now it's really grown on me.

But I also have some good shorties also... kayfun lite with slam cap is tiny and fasttech still has a bunch in stock.

Also the tilemahos v2 is a great tank in a small size. Fasttech has clone if can't grab am authentic or want to try out first.

Thanks for the suggestion. Will look for the tilemahos v2 to try out.

Your not the only one..I sold almost all of my sub-ohm/rtas....just one left to sell...using MTL Rtas, and even brought the Nautilus mini back in the rotation. My favorite tank is my KF5 with the MTL reducer kit in it..my battery charger is empty most of the day now and bottles of juice last me 5x as long, and I've got that great flavor, throat hit and satisfying high nic back in my life..I don't know how I strayed away from it but I'm glad I'm back.

Kayfun fan here. I do wish that there was an RTA that was able to do everything well. To go from MTL all the way to DTL and low resistance you'd have to have adjustable air flow as well as adjustable juice flow.

On the Kayfun, for instance you can open up the airflow somewhat, but you'd still have small juice channels. Route the juice channels and you can never go back to MTL without overloading the wicking. You could modify a couple of chimneys for MTL and DTL and play with the airflow system to create a real high range adjustment.

I guess we all need various designs and a few favorites to satisfy our variable vaping needs.

Haha, i like how you choose the word "stray".. we all need to go back to the roots which is the real reason why we vape in the first place.. satisfying throat hit, nic rush and the relaxing feeling without worrying our clouds disturbing peoples around us..

My thoughts also... Currently eyeing on the Merlin Mini RTA and the Cthulu MTL RTA..

To achieve that, IMO, you would need a tank that you would need a system that you could switch out the deck and the chimney because for the type of MTL flavor I enjoy a very small, tight, compact deck is needed with a shorter tight chimney. The By-Ka V6 is one tank that is attempting to satisfy both by allowing some of that.

I personally would rather have devices that really focus on a prime objective and not be best of both. But that's me.

I agree. You can beef up an old Volkswagen and get performance and lots of young people do that with their Honda Civics.

For ecigs, I'd rather buy what's designed for the type of vaping I do. For me, that's a Kayfun. It's better left in stock condition. If wanted DTL I'd buy something that's designed to do that.

The design fundamentals between the open Direct Lung vs tighter Mouth-to-Lung draw are basically about airflow, chamber + chimney and juice channels. Kayfun 3.x got lot of the internals right for MTL but I'd like to see those internals / dimensions refreshed in a more modern package.

All my kayfuns are heavily modded and one only has the the base/deck left from the original set. Its puny juice channels just about handle my 50/50 mixes and refills are annoying due to the bottom fill screw and its tiny fill hole, but at 1.2 ohm it is gentle on batteries and flavours are good.

With the ultra-low-ohm poly-coil craze and the current regulation 2 ML tank demands mostly satisfied for the time being I'm hopeful that some manufacturers will again look at their MTL single-coil RTA designs.

Besides dedicated single-coil RTAs there would also be market for better "replaceable" RBAs and other after-market parts for dual-use units like Kanger's Subtank.

Another quite well-regarded dual-use tank is the Ego One (Mega at 22mm) by Joyetech. Some say the 0.5 ohm RBA piece (called CLR) works for MTL, but the 1 ohm factory coils are very good for the purpose.

Since it's almost December, here's my feature wishlist for the ideal MTL tank:

- dual-use, with good screw-on RBA deck and compatibility with popular quality MTL coils like the Ego One 1 ohms.

- top fill, either plain cap or Crius-type lift-top.

- tight to medium draw AFC. No need for fully open draw setting.

- JFC would be nice but not absolutely crucial if wick wells and juice channels are done right.

- clean, classy and compact design but with some contours for grip.

- compact 3ml and more spacious 5ml tank options.

- under $/€ 20.

The 1Ω clr coils have a much smaller air hole than the .5Ω ones and should this thus be better for MTL.

Hi, haven't been here for awhile, and i see i'm not the only getting back to mtl. After all rta's and rda's, feels funny to say it, but i really like the simplest joyetech aio :D
Now i'm thinking about getting a second one, but there are couple of things that i would prefer to have. A bit of vw control would be nice, but mostly rewickable coil heads. Think i'm done with coil building ( i travel a lot, and it's a pain to carry all that stuff around ), but would still like to change the wick that was put in the coil by a chineese hand.

I'm really enjoying e cigarette as something i don't have to mess with every day, just change the coil when needed, fill it up and done. So i wasn't really following all the new products in the last year or so, and i'm kinda lost now. I was eyeing the joyetech basic and the cubis mini with notch coil, which looks like it could be fairly easy to rewick, but guess it's not the best mtl option. Also looks like it didn't get as popular as it was supposed to be a year ago?
Anyhow, i would really appreciate any suggestions, especially about some good rewickable coil heads.

Thanks a lot,

regards, M.
