I have some solder wick, I wanna try with that. Is it safe? I don't know what it's made of but I'm gonna soak a bit in PG and a bit in VG over night and see if they change color or rust at all. I'll post back with the results. I know even if nothing happens it doesn't mean it's safe, but that's the best testing I can do. If anyone has more resources and wants to test further I would love to know their findings.

It think it is made out of copper...most should be lead free ,,, but that is a possibility as well..... I think copper isn't a good choice of material I am sure more people will elaborate.

Sorry if this is a double post...

I googled it, it is copper and it has a "no-clean flux formula" on it, more info here NTE Solder Wick NTE# SW04-5. Whatever is on it may come off if I clean it with alcohol, soap, and/or hot water. I'm off to bed but I will try tomorrow if I have time.

Edit: I just posted some new info I researched under a different topic here http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...oly-grail-cart-filler-maybe-4.html#post623007

Well they soaked a few days with no changes noticed, i also tried with a piece that I cleaned with hot water soap and alcohol and it was fine too.

How are you guys doing this with 3 screens? I just got some stainless steal screens and can only get one in my 510 cart.

My fingers are bleeding a little but I got it in there! and it doesn't leak but the atty is a little flooded...

There's photos posted on the first page of this thread.
Hope this helps.

I just modded an 801 cart using this method with the exact same pipe screens purchased from amazon. I got like 100 screens for a few bucks, it was quite the deal. They arrived in the same kind of packaging as seen in the OP's pictures. I had to tweak the OP's method a bit and only used two screens in the 801 cartridge to get them to fit correctly. I'm happy to report that it DOES work. The draw is harder than the PTB mod, but the vapor is rediculous. So much so that I'd be hesitant before vaping in public with this cartridge. I'm also using a DIY liquid mix that uses 50/50 PG and VG, which may have something to do with the vapor being so thick. I can only imagine what straight VG mixing liquid would be like. I will try that next.

So far I'm loving it! I will continue to use the PTB+Straw mod as well for general usage, but when I'm home I will most definitely use the brass pipe screens.

I`ve also had great results using the "Y" method. I use 3-3/4" screens for a 901.
Bought them from ebay for peanuts.

Been using the brass for 2 weeks now with the same screens. I`m sure my addy
stays a lot cooler then with any other method I`ve tried. Still hard to believe that
the brass wicks as good as it does. I add 3-4 drops at a time and this keeps, I found,
the leakage, to the very minimum. I also add just a tiny bit of poly at the bottom of the cart before dropping in the screen. Really not sure if it does anything though...

Ok I love this mod, I tried the rose, and Y type and did not have much luck, so I tried a formed version with a dimple, it worked perfectly. Form fitted to a 901 cart and I can put it in any direction no worry about lining up the Y slot. Well here is what I did:

I got about 5 pipe screen kits, that came with 5 SS screens, 3 large and two smaller ones, I decided on the larger ones to try this with. I first took a 901 cart and cut it in half:

I then formed the two screens on a pen top to get the form:
IMAG0044.jpg

Next I used a smaller mechanical pencil to push the screen in from the cut side of the 901 cart, continually forming and pushing as I went:
IMAG0045.jpg

Almost in!!!

Flip side all the way in and flattened:

Now I flipped it over and pushed with the mechanical pencil to form the dimple, I found that if I pushed this way it would bottom out on the table and I could get a good dimple in it for the atty to rest against:

Here is the formed screen, not how to get into the cart as it will fight me the whole way as the scree edges are frayed and will catch:
IMAGE_049.jpg

Easy push it back into the cut 901 cart and use you fingers to taper the end that will go into the cart:
IMAGE_050.jpg

Now gently insert it into the cart and ensure the edges do not get caught, keep rotating it until it starts to go in:
IMAGE_051.jpg

Now seat it flush and use an old atty and seat it the rest of the way:

To fill, tap it so the screen comes back to the top a little and angle it at a 45 degree angle, then drip into one side and the air comes out the other. When refilling it, blow on the screen so you force the liquid that has collected back into the cart so air can get out.
TADA!
Done.

I theory this should work with any cart, just cut an old one in half and use it to form the screen. I have made 5 so far with this teqnique use in the same cut 901 cart as the former.

Hope this helps, and thanks for this awesome idea!
It vapes like a workhorse now without any burnt taste and no leaks!
I Love it!
Dan

I just tried this with my 510 and it works perfect! I can even turn it upside down and it doesn't leak.

I have been vaping my 510 mega over 5 hours so far with this method using 2 silver screens and have not had to refill, top off or anything! I have tried factory filler, fluval, blue foam, pyramid tea bag, sponge, and cotton. This is by far the best method so far. A little hard to make and refill, but well worth it! This tastes the best and lasts the longest. 2 full carts would last me all day with my megas!

i did the pen spring and it still tasted like poly then tried this and its awesome, i didnt put a dent in the screen it was too hard and the screens kept giving me "splinters" which were VERY painful so i just stuffed it in the like the O.P. did and it works great. i just dropped onto the brass and tapped it till it looked dry again and it works great. when i first opened my 901 and tried it, i was kinda disappointed so i headed straight to the modders area and found this and now i am EXTREMELY satisfied!

I would try the silver screen vs. the brass. The guys who used brass claimed a strange green gunk buildup after a few days use.
thanks for the heads up, the smoke shop i went to only had brass and looked at me like i was crazy when i asked about e-liquid. So im gonna have to find someplace to buy the silver ones i guess. hopefully these brass ones will last till i can go on another search friday. would steel work just the same? or does it gunk up over time? sorry if its in the thread somewhere, i must admit i dont have time to read all 16 pages =X

I don't know. I tried brass for a day because I had no silver. Found some silver and have been alternating with silver screens and blue foam. I will know in a week but I think we're good. As far as chemical composition, the atty runs coolest with the screens, so I don't see how we would be burning them up or breathing anything bad. Silver screens are also used under a faucet so they can't be that bad. Just remember we are all guinea pigs here.

I bought a 'permenant filter' for a coffee maker...I know that screen is safe as it is exposed to scalding hot water repeatedly (I hope...)

For the past week, I have had two carts that I would alternate with and I didn't use it to fill the cart, but to simply act as a screen (making sure it was tight on all sides to avoid leaking. It has worked pretty well, but is a pain to refil becuase you have to make sure your screen is seated properly or flooding occurs.

So this afternoon I am trying this mod...Since I cut it in longer strips, I just rolled it up until it would fit snugly in the cart...and since there is nothing but juice under it, I was able to use a pin to push down the center to give the atty room...I will report back on my success. :)

BTW, here is a picture of something similar to what I bought>

Seems I found out what the green stuff was on my brass screen.
It was the Johnson Creek Smoke juice I was using...
JC says they're working on the problem. It's got something to do with getting too cold and then too hot during shipping. They also say it isn't dangerous (not sure I believe that) but will replace any if sent back to them.
That was the weird thing about the green deal. All my screens were all gold plated!!!
BTW - The "silver" screen is stainless steel.

Respects
