Shore lunch when you don't catch fish.
That was Vienna sausages lol . Look at a crawfish... you think the first people in Louisiana said, “yum!!!”... they said, hmmmm, maybe that ugly thing is edible, cause we caught no fish or crabs today

I know people in LA that eat nutria rat. Maybe they misheard "nutria" as "nutri" and thought it was nutritious. I am so glad that "delicacy" hasn't caught on. Although I do have a friend that kept one as a pet when he was young. They treated it like a dog. He had pictures of it curled up on the end of his bed.

Awww. How cute.

Usually out here on the other coast, unlike LA, in NY if you see a rat curled up on the end of your bed (nutria or not) you reach for a handy piece of rebar.

Sorry that LA was the state Louisianna not the city. Oh and a nutria rat is not a normal "rat" but more like a beaver. They can get up to 24in long and average 15lbs in weight with a max weight of 37lbs. If you wake up in the middle of the night with one of these on your bed, I doubt you are going to just shoo it away. You will probably be going for a gun and a clean pair of underwear.

Maybe out in the swamps they might, but I have yet to see it on any menu. Ever. Yuck!

Hey @NolaMel do you know what nutria taste like?
No idea, and I can guarantee you that I will never be able to answer that question. They’re treated mostly like giant rats here. A nuisance, not a food source. Unless maybe it’s like alligator and they just pawn it off on tourists (I’m kidding, no angry emails please).
