Those explanations are a big deal. Complicated, inconsistent systems will turn off many people. Just read about the difficulties here with equipment and juice and you realize there's a lot of room for improvement. And we're supposedly "advanced" users with lots of knowledge. It's tough to see that sold to a current smoker who's not super motivated.

As an ex-smoker and not someone who started just to blow clouds, I know if I had jumped straight into open systems I might not have stuck with it. That cigalike got me off cigarettes. What drove me to open systems was the quality of the experience, and the expense of all those cartridges.

Getting a smoker straight into an open system can be a struggle unless they're very motivated. The one bright spot I do see are the number of "new" closed systems coming out that will offer a user a much better experience than a gas station cigalike. From there, a user will either remain with it if satisfied, or perhaps move on to an open system if they want to possibly improve their e cig/vaping experience.

I was the opposite. I tried cigalikes, and didnt last 3 days. In the junk drawer they went. It wasnt until I tried a 2nd generation open system that I was able to give vaping a go. It worked, cigalikes didnt.

(For me anyway)

There are a good many that would fall into that category - I have met many that just went back to cigs...

I myself did. When I tried the cigalike (circa 2010ish), nothing else to my knowledge was available. So I went back to inhaling my cigars. It was a year or two later when I discovered the Ego/clearo stuff. Once I tried that first puff I said to myself "this could actually work" and have never smoked since.

Now, that also sent me down the rabbit hole in search of an even better vape. I am happy now though with my stash of DNA200s and Aromamizers, not looking for a better vape anymore. Anything else now is "look! Shiny!", but I find myself not even wanting to spend the money on "shiny" so much anymore.

Nothing on the market today is substantially equivalent to what was on the market in 2007. NOTHING
I agree there is nothing substantially equivalent. Even cigalikes that are identical
in appearance to 2007 models have made improvements. Everything is
"substantially" better.

Mike

I don't know what he meant either, but if he is truthful about " cost to dealers " , there is a lot of creative accounting involved ! Cost to agent, who is higher up on the chain than wholesale dealers is $ 118.45 per carton for premium brands in NYC. The Federal government makes $ 10.06 from that carton, NY state $ 43.50, NYC $ 15.00. Who makes the rest if not Altria or Reynolds. I realize they have to make MSA payments from that as well, but still, no matter how you cut it, they make a lot more than what the RJR guy claims.

The agent's and wholesale dealers' cuts would be in there as well. RJR, like many corporations, make money on volume and they also sell to other countries where that 'line' of agents, dealers and taxes is much different.

So as I said in an earlier post somewhere I would love to have a titanium provari P3 but can't justify the price. So I'm thinking, ok, I'll wait until there is a blem or until they're coming out with something new and they put the P3s on the dirt cheap sale (like they're currently doing with the 2.5s). But they can't come out with something new anymore unless it gets approved right? Or do they have almost 2 years where they're allowed to launch a new product without approval. I'm so confused

Nope. No new tech at this point. At least not in the US.
Interesting to watch this unfold though.

A couple of examples.... House of Hybrids is releasing a new 60w box based on the Radius and Provape released the 60w version of the Radius after the 8th (as well as the 30w P3). Possibly dealer preorders prior to Aug 8th protects them? I dunno.....

As long as it was available or advertised prior to August 8th, it doesn't fall under the "new tech" rules. Now, if there was absolutely on mention of the product anywhere before the 8th, then it's likely they'd be in hot water if the FDA looked at things.

Yep, that's what a lot did. You'll see a few things come on the market in the next couple of months (maybe). But everything has effectively been halted, even updates to address safety issues.

The FDA is a corrupt tool of Big Pharma.

Our only real hope is for the courts to stop them.

That's the part I do not understand - they even stopped software updates. That would be like telling all the buyers of airbags that sorry we are not allowing them to fix the airbags - if they blow up then it is your problem since you bought it...

Law of unintended consequences at best, malicious intent to allow defective products to remain on the market for use as justification for an outright ban at worse. The truth? Good luck finding that one out from these guys.

So if a software update is available but you cannot get it and your device blows up in your face - Who do you sue???

Perfectly clear if you know the intent of the regulations. That is to destroy the market in an effort to get rid of Vaping in order to protect their masters, Big Pharma.

Well...

Good thing FDA doesn't regulate the automotive industry...

Give them time, I'm sure that they are trying. Tesla uses 18650's in their battery banks, that's a Tobacco product. Plug your mod in to change in the car, the car is a tobacco product, etc etc
