So much of the rhetoric we are using to defend vaping can be seen in this video clip, no wonder people look at me like I am wearing a tinfoil hat!
Part of the problem is the public at large remembers being blatantly lied to like this. So when we in the vaping industry talk about 95% less harmful, it is received with justified skepticism. After all, we were lied to before by both BT and the Medical community.... And like it or not, vaping is publicly seen in the same light at smoking tobacco.
The bigger problem is people believing whatever they hear from the govt, no matter how nonsensical
Or anything that's sent in email, or has shocking text overlaying some graphic, or published in a '10 things you didn't know about X' list.
Public schools don't typically teach critical thinking skills as it is counter to the 'sit down, shut up and be a good citizen' / 'don't bug me I have 30+ kids to deal with' methods of teaching.
I believe that public schools intentionally avoid teaching critical thinking because they are in the business of disseminating propaganda. It's much harder to propagandize critical thinkers.
Another tool for them to use against us. Just how long do you think it will take for this site to be flooded with false reports that will make us look bad. I can see it now.

Critical thinking, debate leagues,music and,shop are all but gone in most schools.
In all fairness this is as much of the fault of little Johnny's and Suzy's parents.
It's gotten so bad I swear 9 out of 10 parents with brat kid's I meet let you
know their kids got ADHD. I think they want me not to take offense to their
child's,rude,obnoxious and,totally out of place behavior. There is a bright side
to this. More and more seem to just have autism these days. That's a relief.

On the subject of top 10 lists, I wonder how many hits something has to get before it rises to the top of a Google search. Does anyone here have SEO experience? Couldn't ecf (Oliver, maybe) or CASAA do a "top ten" list for an e-cig search? Publicize the list in an ecf banner and ask people to search on it ...

Within the top 10 hits (first page) on a google search for 'e-cigarette,' probably one of the most generic searches you can do, is a bunch of FDA press, as well as things like:
E-Cigs' Inconvenient Truth: It's Much Safer to Vape
and
FDA E-Cigarette Regs Could Push Half Of Vapers Back To Smoking
a search for 'e-cig' produces a bunch of fda blah blah then some ads and this :
Stirring Up E-Cig Sales - Convenience Store Decisions
which in itself is interesting. The first search is rather promising, the second would probably be hard to get anything up high enough to matter, without paying for adwords.
There's not much more we can do as individuals. CASAA should encourage and help to organize local chapters where vapers can meet regularly, elect leaders, plan strategy and mobilize members for action. Writing letters to politicians isn't a particularly creative or, it seems, effective strategy.

I'm sure @Oliver and his team are well acquainted with Google search. For the benefit of others and apologies in advance for my diversion, "ranking" in the search results by Google is VERY secret. They use a algorithm which is tweaked dozens of times in a year and thousands of SEO geeks have been trying to game the system for at least 20 years or more. Hits/clicks/searches has a minimal effect and is really a waste of time. Google is driven by RELAVENT key words, quality RELAVENT and unique content, and a authoritive source like ECF. Of course, their is a huge amount of competition to "rank" at or near the top in Google searches. Costing huge sums of money for those who wish to pay a "SEO" expert.
The best way for a long term fix, IMHO is to load the THREAD title with RELAVENT keywords to the quality, unique and on topic content it contains. Then let Google do it's thing. You need to be VERY careful that you comply because IF the Google "Algo" flags it as spam you can be removed from Google and that's NOT GOOD. Many of you have probably seen a site which is trying to game the system with a "link bait" headline and eventually Google is smart enough via their "algo" to nuke them. /lol Ballpark outsider guess on ECF is that the Google spider visits ECF at least 50 or more times in a single day and continues to return every single day of the year.

While I understand the intent - to get attention, I cringe at every "another ecig explodes" title in our Media forum. Or some such negative title that almost always is 'user error'.
In the 'health forums' - which Prue Talbot reads and then reports the effects that some people experience in starting vaping - and getting off cigarettes - the coughing, phlegm, etc. that is a result of the lungs 'cleaning themselves' via cilia, etc., sore neck from over sucking in 'pacifier mode', etc. etc. - all get reported by Talbot as 'negatives' for ecigs rather than the positive aspect of smoking cessation.
However, censoring isn't part of me, I just wish people would think about these things before making headlines that tend to hurt us on google.
More than that. Content from ECF is usually on google within minutes of being posted. We have extremely good Google Juice, which is why we have certain rules about URLs in titles, etc.
As such, for the rest of you, please do not try to game the system. We do just fine as it is.
