Well, I think ive found my preference thanks to you folks. Running 30 guage 8 wraps (over 1/16th drill bit). Heats up pretty quick, hits strong, seems to chain vape well, and the taste is incredible.
It makes the Aerotank Mega taste like im sucking air in comparison.

How much cotton do you guys put in for wicks? I think I might have a little too much; I put the cotton in where its a snug pull, then pull it back and forth until it slides easily- does this sound right?

Hopefully I can stop myself from wiring coils/doing wicks and actually get around to vaping for more than 5 minutes :D

tear apart one of those bdc (dual) coils for your mega, and wrap as a single bcc coil, like you did other...

as you said, "its a snug pull, then pull it back and forth until it slides easily"

I like so it's not so easy, just a bit snug with cotton wad (yarn same)

:)

I've been switching from an Aerotank and 2 Kayfuns (3.1 and KFL). The Aerotank definitely has a tighter draw but still better than any cartomizer.

Sounds about right. You'll know you have too much if you get dry hits or too little if you get gurgling.

That's why you need more than one apv. I bought 3 within a week (MVP2 and 2x Vamo V5) and now I'm eyeing a DNA30 of some sort

Just got my new RDA today. It's a Zenith V2 clone $18.99 from strictlyecigs.com. I built a coil 6 wraps 28ga on an unknown size steel rod from an old CDROM drive. It measured 1.4 ohms when I first put it on the MVP but now it's reading 1.1. Still getting used to it. I think I should've used more cotton but I'll re-wick it soon. ZenithV2.jpg

Ok, question for you gurus :). Decided to try the VW setting instead of VV. Coil is 2.2 ohms. So in VV mode, add 2 and you'd have 4.2 volts. Now 4.2 squared divided by 2.2 = 8.02 watts. So about 8 watts.

Is 8 watts the top limit I can use? If I went to 8.5 watts am I running a risk of burning my coil and juice?

Nice! I'll have to look into that tank adapter. Looking at your pics, I see that I definitely didn't use enough cotton.

Might also depend on the PG/VG ratio you are vaping. I run everywhere between 7.5-9.0W, but I'm mostly 1.8-1.9ohms on my coils and 50/50 juice. MVP can fire all the way up to 11W, but I think I've only done that once (and not for very long!)

Then that's the best place to vape :)

Yup. The most asked question that there is just NO answer to. Juices are different, mods are different, tanks are different. (even the same brand, type, mix)
So if I use a mod, juice and tank and set it at 8w and absolutely adore it... I may hand it to you and... you'll hate it. There just is no answer to the question. No one's trying to evade answering. And then there's the running at 8w for days and all of a sudden... tastes better at 8.5. Or the next day a 7.5. Tastes seem to change like the weather.

Some love pizza hut, some hate it. Some like tuna, some hate it. Some days you feel like spaghetti, other days you crave a burger. Taste budz just ain't been created equal! :)

I dont understand this. On my 30 guage 8wrap 1/16th microcoil with cotton wick in a protank 2, im running 10 watts. On the standard coils, I did run 7.5 to 8 watts. The only reason I havent gone higher than 10 is im afraid ill burn up the coil.

So if 7.5watts is all you need, why are people putting kayfuns on a DNA30 and running 15+ watts? And why is you guys are cool with 7.5watts and yet it tastes like air to me on a custom coil that seems to be twice as good as the stocker protank coil? So many questions lol..

What I meant was if you like the cape then that's what's right for you....

I got you there. I guess Im still clueless when it comes to where all the wattage choices come from. Like, if an MVP with a protank puts out a great vape at 9 watts, what does a DNA30 exist for? 30 watts seems ridiculous unless youre doing an RDA or something.

I say that loosely- I am still in major vape noob territory. Gotta setup that works great for me though :) :vapor:

As long as the wick is wet with e-juice, you won't burn your coil. Some like a warm vape so going higher achieves it. I run about 7-8w on the Aerotank and 8-9 on the Kayfuns. The guys running 15+ watts have low ohm coils and needs the volts to run them. E-juice also makes a difference. There's no real right answer so try all the settings and start vaping at what YOU like. What everyone else does is a guideline if you don't know where to start.

On my kayfun I run 11 watts mostly I found if my wicking is good I can chain vape there without dry hits. That's on the same 1.2ohm coil. That said I did the same with the higher ohm coils as well didn't notice much difference for me. With a stock tank like the iclear 30 anything above 9 was burnt. I figured it's how fast it can wick.
