Happy Memorial Day to everyone - especially those who have served, whether in or out of combat. The President's speech was touching, and listening to all the groups that were being represented was wonderful - I just wish CNN had focused on some of them instead of just the Obamas and a quick shot of the Bidens! I wanted to see all of them, but I'm thinking they just weren't set up that way. It *was* cool that one of the photographers had a Rolling Thunder patch on his vest. I miss the times in VA when we'd hear and see all the bikes come to town to do the circuit!

Don't leave till Wednesday morning. Wish I was there during the storm the storm, the surf is usually good. But it looked like mainly riptide, but could of been some awesome windsurfing!

HA! At least you suffered like the rest of us over the weekend, lol! It was so hot yesterday that I was worried about the kittens in the garage, but they were crashed out on the cooler concrete floor and had been eating and drinking - and using their box, so we figured that that water loss wasn't all from evaporation, thank goodness! We, inside the house, suffered. It was so hot I didn't even put the window a/c unit in because I was afraid I'd let it slip because I was sweating so bad. I'm gonna charge the cordless drill tomorrow and get that puppy in the window! That's when Colin usually migrates from hanging out in the bedroom, to hanging out in "my room" which is the living room. The a/c won't reach his bedroom. My parents, however, did give us an ancient (but fabulous) attic window fan that sucks the air out of a room and cooler air in - so we put that in the bedroom for him and it's actually a few degrees cooler in there. The thermostat hit 83 or 84 on Sunday!

I went down and opened the basement windows that are in the glass block to get some air through there - it's leaky and it's so dank smelling down there that we don't even want to run the furnace fan - ugh! That usually helps us out in the summer but I forgot totally the last 2 summers. I don't know how I forgot other than I'm scared to death of my own basement! The first day or 2 that I lived in the house, I was in the furnace room with the furnace guy, Steve, who was finishing the install, telling me what stuff meant, blah blah blah. He stepped out for a few mins and there are 2 ancient ash shoots that catch the ash from the fire place when you're done with the fire (never seen that before!) and one was missing its door, so I opened the other? Out flies a black widow spider - thank heavens I had shoes on!

It died. Of unnatural causes. Very unnatural causes. Like my shoe. On concrete. lol! Ever since then I've been creeped out by my own basement!

I've lived in the house just over 4 years - I've probably only gone down there 50 times - which is very few times to visit an area with the furnace filters to be changed and laundry to be done. I just did the math - I've been down there approx. once a month for the last 50 months, lol! Colin does it now (I love you Colin!) - I just take care of the de-humidifier, which is also full up right now and not draining so I get to go down there in the next couple days (double ugh!)

Boy-o am I jabbering on tonight! I'm too hot to sleep so I'm watching movies on netflix and trying not to melt!

Seriously though, blkhwk, I hope you're happy back in land of sun & sand - Bell-font-in is not exactly living in society (better than here though, lol!) and I'm sure you'll love being down there without having to travel back and forth :)

Plus, we all know you'll still be coming here so, meh Ohio - enjoy Florida, lol!

Oh, you were in Bell fount in? Poor guy. I saw the storm down there, thought you were there, and wondered if you were able to get any surfing. The heat was terrible here.

Oh, you poor thing! We got a geothermal system installed for heat and A/C a few years ago and it really keeps up with the heat of the summer. Our grass, though, is already as burnt out as it usually is in August. We have a creek on our property that is usually rife with ducks this time of the year and it is full of algae blooms already. YUCK Stay cool, sister!!

Ewwwwww, black widow spider?! I know they exist in Ohio, but that is one of the creatures I hope to never encounter. OMG, I'd be afraid, too!!!

It stormed like crazy here; think power outages crazy. Of course, I live in the best part of Ohio. :D Now it's just really hot and humid again. I can't wait for it to cool off.

My little brother was here from So. Cal. for the Memorial Day weekend and just left. sigh I miss him already.

I've only slept for about 2-3 hours still since yesterday afternoon - ugh - the heat! I'm gonna go crash after I check the other thread. Sorry you're so far from your brother - Colin really misses his family in Alaska so we know how hard distances can be :)

Diana, I'm sorry. I haven't stopped by to say hello to you lately. For an old guy that doesn't have to go to a job you would think I'd have more time to stop and see my friends. Well, the ranch and animals keep me busy. That is my work now.

And your school year has come to an end. You don't seem all that upset about it... I mean all that grinning kind of tells the story.

What's for your summer? A class and what else? The garden? Vacation? Just enjoy yourself and stay happy!

Hmmm, I work tomorrow, go to graduation Saturday, and have class all next week for my Teacher Leader endorsement. Don't stay away so long, Blues! I miss you and your doggie grin. :D Yeah, I am humming, "School's OUT for summer... School's OUT for EVER!" I am so immature.

Oh, I forgot to answer the rest of the post. (Blond!) I have a garden that I have planted with summer stuff this year, that looks awesome now, but I will neglect by the end of July. I have towels on a loom that I warped quite awhile ago and need to weave off AND I bought two fleeces last weekend that I need to process and spin. Oh, and I plan on sleeping til noon quite a few days. I HATE getting up at 5:15!

I know that they treat their teachers well in So. Cal. My brother lives in Orange, (the city), and when my son turned 16, I took him there and enrolled him in Newport Beach surf school. He loved it! Did you fly through some of that storm? It was pretty violent. The next time, just tell her it's a free roller coaster ride. :D I'm still humming Alice Cooper. Again, I think there is some question regarding my maturity level. :D
