The Heart/Love button kinda works that way...sending sympathy, love...no ?

Really - Don't mean to disagree with "You", however as I said in the other New Theme opinion thread:

". . . the expression of "Feelings" is not something I take for granted or use indiscriminately to suggest something - even if it is just how people generally express themselves on a forum or "willy-nilly" in public . . . IMHO - "Like", "Dislike", "Love" and "Hate" can be and are very strong words to use at times, especially when someone is talking about personal subjects . . . Particularly when some ECF members are looking for an acknowledgement that they are being heard and not for a commentary in response to their post . . . Just a thought & "My" "​

Also, Personally - I do not use those specific word/expressions as freely as others might, especially when expressing support, empathy, or trying to provide sympathy to others in need.

More importantly, Professionally - from my experience as a counselor in Human Behavior Modification and the founder & lead facilitator for a "Bereavement Support Group" . . . as @tiburonfirst stated, I know that many people would not really appreciate seeing heart that is mainly meant to express "Love".

Now - Not that "My" opinion counts for anything, however if it was a "Sad Smiley', "Broken Heart" or "Hug" icon . . . Just Sayin' . . .


EDIT: BTW - Still would "Like" to have just a "Read" button to acknowledge a post actually has been read without responding in the thread . . .

I would dearly love to see a big ol' shocked face or a sad face for a "Bummer" icon. (Something that conveys empathy for the situation.)

BTW: Don't know if this is appropriate here, however since it has been brought up - just a simple question about the "Trophy Points"/"Membership Ratings" . . .

When or will they get updated too when the New Theme is implemented ? ? ?

I'll put in a second (or third) for a hugs. Overall a nice but not completely sympathy so of multiple use without a misleading heart/love to express the same.

There are only the standard 'Like' in conversations, any chance on getting the full bar of likes in conversations?

Just a thought.

Moreover, the old/standard Likes are not working quite correctly in conversations either. You can click Like, and you can tell you did it because the "Like" button becomes "Unlike". People do get notifications for them, but there isn't any way to see if anyone else liked a post.

I do think it would make sense to bring the new Post Rating system into Conversations as well.

The bar of LIKES is so delightfully tempting that often it's hard to pick just the right one.

It's difficult to convey some sentiments in tiny little icons. I was thinking of teddy bear maybe, for comfort / sympathy, but once it gets so teeny it's not very legible. Maybe something like this for hug / support / sending love:

That sending-love icon is from the Noun Project, which has a ton of cool, searchable icons. (I colored it in, though.) There are other possibilities, though. I was looking at a cup of tea for sympathy, for instance, but then that seemed a little *too* specific ("sympathy" vs "I support/care about you").

I think the "optimistic" icon is meant to be taken as - "that's a bit optimistic", i.e. "don't get your hopes up"! So, in that reading, perhaps "neutral" is fine.

Thinking this through, though, why have a count at all for neutrals? Perhaps we should just hide it.

Speaking just for myself...I didn't just use the like button before as a means of bookmarking whether or not I had read a post. I preferred to only use it when I actually did like the post. I have never expected everyone to like every post I may make, so what difference does it make if someone marks a post as neutral or if they don't use any button at all?
