I think the "optimistic" icon is meant to be taken as - "that's a bit optimistic", i.e. "don't get your hopes up"! So, in that reading, perhaps "neutral" is fine.

Thinking this through, though, why have a count at all for neutrals? Perhaps we should just hide it.

@Oliver, I humbly disagree. I realize you're beating your brains in trying to get this new format to work for everybody and jell with your vision but I, as an American, am trying to wrap my head around over 50 dead (so far) and over 200 wounded courtesy of another mad man. I'm trying to stay optimistic that an ECFers friends were murdered tonight and that does not mean that doesn't mean ""don't get your hopes up"! "

ECF started as a vaping community but has morphed into a vibrant, thriving community based on solid friendships that transcend race, religion, politics and all the other things. People travel half way across the country for grounp get togethers. People are sending hundreds of dollars of equipment to strangers just to help them out of a tight spot. For the most part, ECF is what's right with the world. The free exchange of knowledge, the camaraderie, the selflessness, the generosity, it boggles my mind every day.

Optimistic here, in ECF context, means everything from damn, I hope your FT order gets here before the end of the year to I'm praying your wife survives.

Humbly submit that you are only looking at it in terms of buying clones from an unknown Bangladeshi or whatever mod maker. :nun:

Not for me. You know the background to that festival? I was just participating in a discussion of that elsewhere.

I actually did look into it at one point. I wasn't convinced on that particular individual. Doesn't mean they they won't stop celebrating the 5th any more than Christmas will stop being celebrated as the day Christ was born. But a lot of people know that, it's convincing big retailers...

Yes, Fawkes was no saint. However, he is a symbol of anti-Catholicism, and the entire bloodbath on both sides, Queen Mary included.

Oliver, you can't please everyone.

Speaking just for myself...I didn't just use the like button before as a means of bookmarking whether or not I had read a post. I preferred to only use it when I actually did like the post. I have never expected everyone to like every post I may make, so what difference does it make if someone marks a post as neutral or if they don't use any button at all?
I've used 'Like' to mean like, nod my head as passing, sympathy, agree, funny, etc. But, I've never used 'Like' just to mark something 'Read'.

I don't like the rainbow because it's ambiguous, at best.

It's difficult to convey some sentiments in tiny little icons. I was thinking of teddy bear maybe, for comfort / sympathy, but once it gets so teeny it's not very legible. Maybe something like this for hug / support / sending love:

View attachment 689783

That sending-love icon is from the Noun Project, which has a ton of cool, searchable icons. (I colored it in, though.) There are other possibilities, though. I was looking at a cup of tea for sympathy, for instance, but then that seemed a little *too* specific ("sympathy" vs "I support/care about you").

WOW ! ! ! Some really great icons there, especially for possible "Read" & "Sympathy"/"Care" . . .

Examples of possible Icons:

"Read" . . . . . . . . . . . . . . "Message Read" . . . . . . . . . . "Glasses" . . .

"Empathy" . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . "Broken Heart & Tea" (or "Tea & Sympathy") . . . .

Sounds like I'm in the minority with not loving these changes. I realize that it's our choice whether or not to participate on this site. That being said, Im glad others are happy with the new opinions. And wish you all good luck
If it is just the layout you aren't liking you can go back to the way it was. For me the only thing that has changed is the like system and I kinda like that change :)

Since 99% of my ecf time is on tapatalk (I only flip to browser view for in- thread searching on user name), the changes are now a shrug to me. The only kind of like I'll ever be using is the thumbs-up [emoji5]

Thanks for getting tapatalk likes working again Oliver!

I think the layout is an acquired taste. When you're used to a look and feel of something like a forum you frequently participate, the change is going to feel a bit disorienting. But objectively it does look good.

On the likes thing, I'm getting to like it more and more. If a sympathy something is possible, great. But Oliver, there's only so much you can do, and if that doesn't work out, no biggie.

OK, another can of worms, what about some new emojis? That could freshen stuff up just a little bit.
