i'm now officially jealous. either i never saw Hendrix or i was in no shape to remember....

saw Janis a few times. helped out backstage at one concert and got my first taste of Southern Comfort.

My wife and I only got back stage for a concert once. It was the Jefferson Starship appearing in Allentown, PA. A very good friend of ours went to California to become a rock star. He wound up as a roadie and backup bass man for the Starship. I asked him how he got the gig and he told us he met Gracie Slick while doing the AA program with her in San Francisco, they became friends and eventually asked him to join the group. He eventually did 'make it' in the music scene but not here in the states. He's pretty successful with his style of southern blues guitar in Germany.

my "Janis moment" was when i was still in high school. i had a friend and some relatives who were roadies and such for many of the SF bands back then. it was "interesting" being a teenager in those days. kinda wish i could remember more :)

Ok - got me thinking of my old friend. Remember many times in our apartment, hanging out and listening to him play.

thanks for that!

i have often said that Van Morrison is what i have in place of religion...

... but Robert Johnson is a god

Golly gosh and g'day, I love me some great guitar! Here's a guy y'all may not have heard of before -- he plays an acoustic like it's electric. Siiiiick, I tellya. Wish I lived in Texas so I could go see him live. Wish he could hang out at MY place! (Warning, pretty long video, but if you watch it through, I'll be completely shocked if you don't love it!)

Can you FEEL IT, sitting around the campfire, vapes and chat all around!!???

Hello all the folks from the original back porch and welcome to all the new folks joining in. I found my way here and have my rocker all settled in so I can continue to feel at home. Love how the new place feels like home already. :)

ETA: darn CRS I was going to quote this - to comment that while I so love being retired so I don't have to go out in the cold if I don't want to - but sure hate that I have to deal with the getting "older" stuff to enjoy it

And one of the many great things about being retired is I don't have to drive in any of that unless I want to!

My last job, 24+ years as a hydroelectric plant electrician, often found me with the phone ringing in the middle of the night, power out, phone ringing for me to go in and restore the plant, get the power back... With up to 50,000 in the dark, time is important. Black ice? Too bad, gotta get there... Last Dec. we had a brief (4 hour) outage, happened in the middle of the night and concurrent noises woke us both up. Smiled, turned over and went back to sleep.

Nah, as the saying goes, been there, done that.
Smiled, turned over and went back to sleep.

Aww well, you hesitated 10 minutes and missed the whole thing.
I hear you on the "turned over and went back to sleep".
I've had my share of working the night shift for years ... all outside.
The only time I really enjoyed it was in the summertime, and I didn't have to suffer the heat of the day, or wear a ton of clothes
Sure makes a person appreciate snuggling these old bones under the comforters.

Tagging this new thread to make my lurking easier!

Me too.
I go through days that I just read, chuckle, read some more.
Then I have days I chatter.
In any case I don't miss much going on's here, and try to contribute when I think it might sound intelligent !
(or I'm in trouble)

Welcome .. you left a pretty interesting and enjoyable "footprint"
Glad to have your company and input.

ok i got a couple more years until i hit 50...but can I hang with you guys? I think I fit in here better than with the hipsters and the other youngsters. :p

Your more than welcome to "hang" with us, you'll never feel "out of place" here ...
So find a parking place and plunk it down.

This is great, we have a new porch and new friends, all in the same week.

Yep, that's for sure.......you will never feel out of place here.

I'm trying again to keep up, but I guess I have too many irons in the fire, but then again, I wouldn't have it any other way.

Just reading and not posting in my other forums as well because of time restraints. Guess I'll just have to learn to read faster! :)

My granddaughter had a well-physical today and the doc gave her a script to be evaluated by a specialist. I can't say I'm surprised, but I'm nervous. And in a way relieved. She's three, but from the time she was a few months old when you cooed and smiled at her she'd slide her eyes to just off-side of your face and she still doesn't like eye-contact. I've always thought that is just weird. Anyway, since she's only saying words (in both languages since it is a bi-lingual household) but no sentences it is becoming a bit dangerous because she's big enough to get into things yet you can't explain the meaning of danger. So..... they dont have an appointment yet but at least they've accepted that she isn't quite the same. Especially now they have the new baby the difference is really obvious. At 4 months he's already smiling for the camera whereas she just looks off to the the side in a daydream expressioin...

Early intervention programs are very effective for preventing long-term serious problems. That is especially true for autism spectrum disorders.

And those disorders are being diagnosed much more frequently nowadays, to the point that I really wonder if they are over-diagnosing.

And, like David said, her receptive language skills may be just fine. A big explanation is not necessary, just distracting her by playing with her on the other side of the room would be the better option.

MMV - I couldn't push the like button on that, but I can offer best wishes and prayers that there's a positive outcome for her.

Being the youngster here - Jimi and Janice both dies when i was 4 so no stories from me. I have met a few great musicians over the years including - James Taylor, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jerry Garcia, Jimi Rodgers, and Neil Young. Funny story about Neil was that i was flying back to Columbus from LA and had a layover at O'Hare. Sitting there playing on my computer when this guy that looked homeless, carrying a beat up leather carpet bag, stopped to lace up his boots right in front of me. I though that guy looks a little like Neil Young and then he looked right at me and it was him. Talked to him for a few minutes before he went to hide in the VIP waiting area. Getting ready to board the plan they called for first class and Neil comes out of the waiting area and you can hear all the people start whispering...the guy in front of me turns to me and says "Do you know who that is?....It's Neil Diamond!" I about died laughing.

Right Behind You
(Yawns .... "Is it morning or night?")

Justin Beiber, as true as my teeth are false, is no replacement for Jerry Garcia. Will Farrel is no George Carlin. Al Sharpton is no MLK. My old hemorrhoid cream was better than my new one. Where's my old chair, I like that one better. Who painted this porch? What the hell was wrong with the old color?

(Goes back to sleep.)
