Wow - that brought a different sound to that song. Liked it. I first saw Hendrix at a place in Philadelphia back around '68 called the Electric Factory. It was a great place because it only held a few hundred people and it wasn't hard to get close to the stage. It was also the 1st time I heard him play - Wow, just Wow - what a show. Also saw the likes of Janis Joplin and Eric Clapton there, it was a great time there, wished I remembered it all.![]()
A friend that I had played in a band with made it possible for me to meet Hendrix, Joplin, the Phillips and Elliot at Monterey Pop, and I just missed a chance to meet Townsend. Those three days were amazing. After the festival I drove up to San Francisco to see a childhood gal pal who had quit high school and went to live in the Haight. Ended up staying for all of the SOL and almost right up until I had to report to boot camp that fall. Got to hang out at the Dead House a couple of times, at the GGP "ins", do the music at the Avalon and Fillmore, and meet a few other local band members from the era. The diggers and hippies called me a Hawk, but they still accepted me. I wear a peace and fire medallion that signifies that... in rememberance of that summer, the people before Vietnam that accepted me, the nation that didn't after. I have remained in loose touch with that gal pal all these years, but over the years and many moves have lost track of the other friends from that era.
