It was beastly. The next one will be much better. I made an envelope (pieced on one side), turned it right side out. Pinned it together, ran seams up three inches apart. Put 1/8 cup poly beads in each compartment using a funnel and chopstick. Shook it, towards the end I basted the beads into the bottom part of the compartments, then ran a seam across to make each compartment three inches square, then did the next set. Worked all the way up. Will put binding on the top.

The sewing machine does not like to run over those damned beads, which go everywhere.

Just glad you are safe!!! :)

:) Thanks, Kat. Yeah, we're good. Unfortunately, power is still out at home. I just got off the phone with my wife (I always call her to talk during my lunch breaks.), and she said that there is still no power. :( Hopefully they'll get that sorted out soon... might have to get take-out for dinner...

In oils I paint ..... and landscapes. In watercolors, mostly flowers, but I'm very heavy handed with the paint in watercolors unlike most folk. If you check out Bernard Martin, my mentor and teacher, you will see why. All of his work is in watercolors but looks as if painted in oils. bernardmartin.com : fine painting Home
Yes, they absolutely look like oils rather than watercolors. The guy must be contentedly retired (like me)... only one piece for sale and it's not one of my favorites on his site. Sure, he gives a link for emailing him but I'm not interested in twisting his arm.

Hmmmm I probably would have gone at it a little differently.

I probably would have made it in squares (using a serger)then flat serged them together. The serger could handle it since it is designed to go over very thick seams. Then I would just make a pretty or fleecy cover for it. Easier to wash just the cover too.

I need a little help from you guys that know about such things.....is an LED the same size as an old light bulb ? and can I put one into a fixture that used the old ones.....do they require a special fixture?

The LEDs are the same size as the 'old' incandescent bulbs. You don't need a special fixture. The only exception to watch out for, I think, is a fixture/outlet with a dimmer switch. Not all LED are compatible w/ dimmers.

Thank you.. My bulb went out in my bathroom......didn't think I would ever get the cover off the darned fixture to get to the bulb, It had been in there so long, you can't even read what wattage it was. You've seen my dinky bathroom with no windows, heading out shopping tomorrow afternoon and I want to get a light bright enough to see in there. No dimmer there so..... no problem.

Good to see ya back Deb, I missed ya. :)
thanks hun :) Missed everyone here too!

I got mine online from Target. I was looking for a base that would fit under my bed with the stuff I have stored under it. The height part adjusts up & down, and also back & forth, you can lean it towards you or upright by several degrees. And the top tilt adjusts by several degrees. So it works to accomodate different sitting or laying conditions. This is mine:

doesn't seem like they have that same one, and they do seem more expensive with the ones they do have. I'll see how Kay's holds up, and start saving my pennies.

Yea, I did... I hugged so much on that trip that my shoulders ache...
you hugged a lot (sorta)........but I didn't get a hug from little bird!!

Well all the crap weather that hit Texas yesterday is hitting us today. We just finished our second tornado warning of the morning.

Wanders out to the porch in search of a sunbeam this weather is distinctly un-catlike!
dang......hope all this for y'all and those in Houston clears up soon.

Having you as a guest in our home was one of the greatest joys of the week :)

Thank you so much for the hands-on session about how to build coils for my REO, and for helping me pull together my building kit.

Mr. Seapeach now feels entitled to buy more stuff for his boat.:p

Sad we didn't have time for Sea World or Cirque du Soleil, but I'm certain there will be other times. But it was swell getting to meet Ken_A and he was such a sweetie to bring us our very own BIFFs.
hehehe I bet he does feel entitled! It was fun shopping vicariously through you! lol shhhhhh No biggie about Sea World at all. Instead of watching dolphins and sea lions.....I got to go to the atlantic and the gulf and be a dolphin/sea lion!! Even if I did try to kill myself in the process. And getting to see one in the wild on the boat was fantastic!! Even if I did try to kill myself again in the process. hehehe I'm still grinnin ear to ear!! Wuz gonna give my sil's walker back to her tomorrow, but may hang on to it another week if it's ok with her.

One of these days I will find the courage to post some pictures of my various needlework. :)

Meanwhile I will just enjoy the creativity of the rest of the porchers.
keep tellin ya ya need to post those.......I wanna see em.....Janet wants to see em, and I'm sure others will as well.

We got hit pretty hard early this morning. Lost power at about 5am... power was still out when I left at 6:30am this morning and not a single traffic light was working on my 7 mile trip to work. I think that's about 15 traffic lights, total. All of the businesses along the way were without power, as well. Tornado alert was going off on my phone at around 5am... rough night, rough morning... took me 40 minutes to make my (usually) 15 minute drive to work.
Dang, hope they get yur power back on soon, that stinks for your poor wife. I know how humid it gets here with storms. We had the lights blink off and the net went out around 3 am. Lights were fine, but the net stayed out awhile.

Ipv4s arrived yesterday. I had been using single battery mods just cause they fit in any pocket. I can sit on the porch lots longer now.
oh yay!! Vapemail is always fun!!

We had a bad lighting storm move through at 7am. Woke me up, but I turned over & slept till 10! I was sleeping great, which is rare, but 10am? I have things to do! I have an infusion tomorrow, (steroid warning), & am leaving to pet sit for a friend for 12 days starting Saturday. Gotta get things lined out for Mom grocery wise while I'm gone.
Plus I'll have vapemail landing today! Woohooo!
Glad you got some good sleep! Hope the folks where yur gonna pet sit have a fully stocked fridge and pantry! Hope this infusion goes better than any ever have!!

Yesterday I made a weighted blanket for our quilt club to donate to the school district for autistic kids. Just as an experiment, I slept under it last night. I had the best night's sleep, no three O' wakeup remembering bad things. Might just keep it!

Just discovered that it is used for that, too. Medical Blankets | Autism Aid | WeightedBlanketsPlus.com
    that is sooooooooooo kewl!!

I woulda done it different too.........I woulda hired you or 3mg to make it for me!! hehehe I can't stitch a lick. Sergers sure are nice for folks who have em. I've seen other folks use em but I am completely inept when it comes to sewing!

Interesting technique. Might work, if you want to experiment with that. Get back to me on that. Might work for making larger ones for PTSD vets.

I considered making a cover for it, but it would slide around inside the cover, unless one would put snaps on the corners inside.

Just talked with our revered leader, and we will assess need.

My serger has been in storage for the last few years, and I hope it will still be operational when I get it out.

    I love my ipv4s

Sent from a dark, twisted corner of the back porch, covered in cobwebs and slightly damp.

He's not exactly retired. He's an architectural engineering consultant and flies people to the Keys on his off days. Most of his work is sold via Sotheby's auctions or at local art shows and galleries. He specializes in ballerinas and did my body painting for Fantasy Fest 2001 parade. I'd post a pic, but that would get me thirty lashes with a wet noodle for sure.

hehehe I bet he does feel entitled!
He's already been on the phone talking to somebody about trim tabs. Thanks a lot @Iffy

    Peek a Boo .. ;)

Yes, I survived my semi-debacle of an attempted Odyssey, and thanks for asking .. ;) ..

A woman goes into a Sex Store to try and find something to spice up her Love Life with her Husband
The proprietor offers her a book, "Couples Sex Guide: Female Edition" for $10.00 .. and "Couples Sex Guide: Male Edition" for $5.00 ..

"What's the difference .. ??" the woman asks, looking puzzled .. he replies :: "They are identical, except the Male Edition suddenly finishes up just when it's getting good." ..

For a number of reasons, none of which I'm going to bore anyone with, the passing of Prince stayed with me for some time .. both as a sadness that we had lost another true artist who lived life his own way and a slight bit of anger over how some media outlets got his history wrong .. it's all neither here nor there at this point .. for those that care to spend eight minutes and change, take a listen ..

They have the same base sizes as the old bulbs. Small, medium, & large. Medium is what fits most lamps. You don'! Need a special fixture. So far I've changed 2 lamps to led bulbs. One is a three way, the other is a desk lamp.

    @Uncle Willie !

I am so glad to see you post - I had posted on the planning thread if anyone had heard from you !

Since I'm keeping tabs, I have now crossed #1 off the list of Concerned Citizens .. ;) .. it is comforting to know there is at least One .. ;) .. and, One is Not The Loneliest Number .. it's Zero .. ;)
