I'm sitting in the living room watching the biggest thunderstorm we've had since I've been here. Pretty cool. Hurricanes coming by Monday I do believe. Hopefully not too strong. They say it's going to be a category 1 and by the predicted path it's going to run right over us. I don't worry to much about them this early usually but, they've been getting better at it these days. Debating whether to buy a generator or not. I have one back in Virginia but, it's not a real big one and barely powers the refrigerator and TV. Of course it's doesn't help me now either. We'll see. Momma doesn't want to spend the money but, I don't want to sit in the dark. After 20 years in the Navy my attitude is "plan for the worst and hope for the best." Doree doesn't agree. Oh well.
Hurricane? sheesh, I never pay attention to the weather unless someone mentions that....
Or I want to go for my evening walk.

huh... aparently, it is projected to hit FL.... well not the panhandle, but the rest of us.
For the next couple of days, Erika will be moving into an environment with vertical wind shear and dry air, both general inhibitors for tropical cyclone intensification.

Erika may face somewhat lower values of wind shear and dry air than did the former Hurricane Danny, but these negative factors, plus a potential future track over land in the Caribbean complicate both the intensity and track forecasts.
this will be good for Cuba... they have had a distinct lack of rain lately.

Too true. She just doesn't think like that sometimes.
Heh. Problem is when you do need it due to power outages the stores are out of them and those that still have any are charging premium prices.

Well I just got to do the Knight in armor bit. Young lady ran outta gas in my front yard with 2 po'd kids and a dead cell. Brought out the mower gas , cell phone an an umbrella.(it was pouring rain).Got the best part of 5 gal o gas in her tank, let her call her dad and kept her dry, ish. I was at least worth the air I breathed today by helping Her and the kids out. Chivalry is not dead, just wounded! "MEDIC"

I know I've been scarce, but right now life away from the computer has me ripping and running. Once again, I need to go back to work to get some rest.

Debadoo, I'm glad your son's surgery turned out well. May he recover quickly and fully.

Welcome Newcomers! I think you'll like it here. Hell, they let ME in!

I almost went to the HO last night so y'all could see what I look like after I finish mowing the lawn. I had on a bandanna with one of those old fashioned lady gardening hats with the large brim. I thought I looked pretty funny. OH well, maybe next time. The computer has been giving me hell with my video driver and what not. I'm sure it's fixable, but I just haven't gotten around to it. I've been thinking of a new one, however, I don't know how much longer I'll have a job.

Yep, the oil and gas industry is floundering right now, and all service industries associated with it. I was in a meeting on Friday, and they told us that right now they're not trying to lay anybody off. However, if the price of oil slips any further, all bets are off. I truly don't know how much longer I'll be at my base, since the company we are contracted out to is at serious risk of bankruptcy. If that happens, they may make a place for me at headquarters, like they may not.

Now, as much as I'd like to retire, I really can't right now. So, we shall see. The funny thing about all of this is that I'm not really worried about what could happen. The good Lord has seen me through this many years, I have faith he'll keep me going some kind of way. I just mostly live on a one-day-at-a-time basis. I could drop dead tomorrow, and it wouldn't matter anyway. :)
Girl, you hush now! Haven't you realized yet how loved you are here?!?!?

Yea, being prepared in Florida is a given! Just make sure you have charged batteries, JIC! Priorities, ya know! :)

Thanks for the likes, but it was really wasn't something I could ignore, just me. And if it'd been a big redneck in a 4x4 I'd have done the same. I've been helped and can't not help, go's against my grain. Would that there were more of us there to help when help's needed. It's the golden rule thing . Help and don't expect payback. Just help.

Thought I quoted Roto too, but you must know by now you are loved and part of the family! So none of those crazy "no one would miss me" thoughts!!

You know, Matt, after all the years of experience I've had in dealing with hurricanes, I STILL won't buy a generator. Of course, I'm about 40 miles inland, and we normally don't lose power for long. Still, for Hurricane Andrew, we were without power for days. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

Gotta bet with a couple of 'ramp rats' dat I'll be sittin' at da 'no mercy' (aka liars) table Monday afternoon on dis side of da peninsula during 'office hours' and doing my crossword puzzles. Do believe da Fl east coast will get a dousing. But, I can't see anything stronger than a min Cat 1. We'll see...

Debating whether to buy a generator or not.

If ya do, do it NOW! Otherwise, ya may have to pay through da nose or play in da dark. Dem gens are probably gone by now.

Too true. She just doesn't think like that sometimes.

All it takes is a couple o' nights relying on candles, flashlights and light sticks to have her beg ya to buy at least one gen! Lil' hint: get an electric start if ya can. Messed up a shoulder many years ago pull starting an ol' Generac (close to being appropriately named).

BWAHAHAhahahaha.........I REALLY don't want to work in the corporate headquarters, BUT, if it means having a job, then I'll do what I have to do.

Strange thing is, mowing a lawn DOES make me happy. I never want to do it, but once I'm started, I'm happy as a pig in mud. I love to weed eat too when the weed eater does what I want it to do. Me and it have had a love-hate relationship for quite some time. If you think I was bad on the phone, you should see me when the weed eater acts up. Oh the conversations I have had with that thing!!

My talents on a bush are unprecedented. Never get in the way of an old woman who is slinging a machete in one hand and a cane cutter in the other. :D

Matt: Hold off on the Gen. I don't think this will be a bad storm. I wouldn't expect this to be able to knock out power for long. Fl. power company's are geared to handle these storms. And what's wrong with candles?
I helped expecting no return ,Hope she got home and all's good. and Roto, if you think your getting outta a crazy helo ride, Wrong! I fully want to see you at the odyssey iffin I can drive over there. And malathoin plus a good crossbow will take care of vampires. Eat lots o garlic!
