You know there is one alternative to consider for a Thanksgiving Dinner - places like Publix offer a complete meal for 6 - 8 people for about $50. We did it one year when we were doing so much cooking for other stuff that we got burned out on cooking for ourselves - actually a tasty meal and easy to prepare - just pick it up - transfer to your dinner ware and dive in...
Yes to this! We had considered it one year when I wasn't in the mood for a big get together, but ended up doing it anyway, cause then the Holiday mood hit and I got plenty of help.

Cracker Barrel offers the same plan, and ya know how good their food is!

It's a cold day, dreary with a light cold steady rain .. since last night .. and, it's taken down those last leaves left on my trees and another round of small dead branches, so the good news is, just one more go at Fall yard cleanup and I'll be good to go .. ran the gas out of the mower last weekend and set it away for the Winter .. time to fill and hang the Winter bird feeders ..

This AM, as I sat and had my morning coffee and first few hits off the PV, the house was silent, other than the faint sound of raindrops hitting the skylights .. I gazed out of the back window wall and thought to myself, "Another year begins to draw to a close .. " .. for some odd reason, my mind drifted to the old O. Henry short story, "The Last Leaf" .. a story that encapsulates so much Human emotion in so few words .. in the rare case that any have not read it, take a moment if you can ..

The Last Leaf by O Henry

If the readers out there are looking for any Winter reads to pass the short days and long nights, give a try to the Patrick O'Brian Aubrey-Maturin series beginning with "Master and Commander" .. the film is one of my favorites, however the book series is a wonderful trip into a long gone era .. don't be intimidated by the series being 20 books .. they are all pretty well stand alone reads ..

Tossing out a few for my friends ..

Well, so far I've totally enjoyed your reading recommendations! This one was wonderful too!

My wife just smoked her last ciggy got her Provari and nautilus in hand.

That's fantastic!! And she's got a great teacher if she runs into problems. Hopefully she'll stick with it this time.

Thanks Gracie but, really, I was half asleep and kind of hurrying. I had forgotten to take my meds at 6pm like I'm supposed to and the pain med was wearing off. It was 2 am, I was hurting and didn't turn the light on. I'm going to chalk this one up to being stupid and just try to learn from it. The thing that bothers me is forgetting to take my meds again!

Aargh! Those evening pills are the ones I always forget too. Maybe you need to put some really good padding on those stairs! Or get into one of those big plastic balls! Just pull your legs in and you could roll down the stairs and right into the kitchen!

I was never able to wear soft lens because my eyes were too dry. Turns out dry eye is a symptom of RA. I always wore hard lenses. Loved the Monovision lenses. I had to stop wearing them at all. The dry eye got too bad.

Having a blocked tear duct from an eye infection as a child meant that the eye would always drip since the normal moisture had nowhere to go. Now as an adult I have some problems with dry eye! I told the doc about my eyelids being stuck to my eyeball, and then having that terrible irritated feeling in the eye that cause copious tearing to the point where I had to pull off the road if driving. He said I had dry eye and thought he was nuts since my eye couldn't get any wetter. Turns out tears have different chemical makeups so that crying tears are not the same as irritated tears or tears of sadness. It's interesting to hear that fish oil supplements could help. Have to try that.

Venting. Found out at 7:30 tonight that the family Thanksgiving was today at my sister's. She told Mom, who promptly forgot, & neither of them had told me. All I was told was to bring the broccoli & rice casserole & Mom was to bring 2 pies. I, of course, assumed Thanksgiving Day. Making it worse is that one of her stepdaughter's invited a friend with 2 small children. So glad she was included. We were sent leftovers which we will microwave & eat on Thursday.
So, not happy with the sister now for waiting till 7:30 to see why we weren't there.

Oh no! That's awful! I'd say she owes you a dinner at least!!

Wanted to share this link from another thread here on LCF....rather encouraging!

Did the CDC Just Save the Electronic Cigarette Industry? -- The Motley Fool

Wow! That's encouraging. Don't know that it will save the industry because too many people know how to do this now, but it should go a long way to changing peoples minds about vaping if it's available enough for people to see it. I have more faith in what the CDC says than the FDA, but unfortunately the FDA enjoys a massive amount of trust in people who want to believe they're the final word on truth and safety.

Gracie, did you try refreshing ECF?

That was an encouraging article, and I, too have more faith in the CDC than the FDA!

The problem was FF.....had to close down and make some changes in my 'options'. It sure was worrisome for a few minutes!

We have a sliding patio door up here in Virginia as well.

One of da best family room remodeling decisions I made was to replace da pool access sliding glass door with double French doors. They're da kind with mini-blinds sandwiched twix inner/outer panes; pretty much insulated and no mo' roller repairs!

BTW, this evening is gonna be just right fer sum Iffy smoked turkey fridge-dump soup.

I've spent a big part of the past hour and a half looking for the CDC study that's mentioned in the article. No luck so far. I'd like to know exactly what the CDC said.

This is the latest CDC release I can find, referenced by a couple "news" sites:

Products - Data Briefs - Number 216 - September 2015

I wear no line bifocals. I like them a lot because just move your sweet spot up and down and you can find a spot where anything is in focus.

My first bi's were, and with the line of work I was in were too awkward. And dangerous. Stick your head inside a live 480 volt switchboard to work, moving the head to see clearly isn't good... Constantly moving my head to keep the tiny lines of schematics sharp.... So I went to lined. Easier for me to just move my eyes than my head.

I did not know about him before a few days ago. Someone else posted a vid of him on here. I forget who.
Yes he is smooth.
woopsy....ok, thanks to whomever originally posted him!

see, that surprises me too, but interesting to know!

Glad you got it fixed, was going to suggest restarting the browser, and the computer if that didn't work

?

woopsy.......mornin darlin!! Didn't mean to leave ya out. That's why I usually just say howdy y'all so I get everyone!

with the glasses, I have the lined bifocals....but the last time I got em, I just had them do new lenses in my frames, cuz I love my frames....... and when I picked em up they said...... oh, we made the bifocal part bigger for ya. Didn't ask me, just did it and I hate it!! If I'm walking on uneven ground or where it's dark etc, I have to have my head straight down to see well. Should have made them redo it, but gettin there was an issue, not to mention having to wait while they cut them and put em in.

What elevates blood pressure? Several months ago, I had a whole glass of wine. Then next morning, I felt uncomfortable, and checked my BP, and it was way high. A nurse-friend suggested the glass of wine was the problem. I have a history of heavy drinking. Will not have more than a sip or so to taste, from now on.

So, I have been sleuthing with the home bp monitor. Full-caffeine coffee is a trigger, went to half-caf, and much better. Decaf tea and coffee for afternoon and evening.

At 3mg, my vape is not a problem, although I seem to be cutting back from 15 ml a day.

Salt is supposed to be a problem, but I don't like highly salted foods, anyway.

Dehydration is supposed to be a problem, so I am working on it.

Stress is a problem, so I am working on some meditation strategies.

So what else?

You got a lot of them, but there are many hidden high salt things. When my ex fil had congestive heart failure, we got a listing of hidden salt items, they said to find out from the city how much salt was in the tap water and that was shocking, so we started buying bottled water. I drink distilled water myself. and of course, any type of packaged or processed food is typically loaded with salt. I know you have somewhat limited cooking abilities, so dunno how much fresh food you're able to cook.
Anything smoked or with nitrates, so bacon, deli meats etc has a ton of salt.

others will need to jump in on other causes, cuz I'm drawing a blank other than what you already mentioned.

Yeah, very little cooking equipment. Will reduce those meats, too. Thanks.

Meet Me in St Louie Louie
I'd smoke a turkey as well, however, I found out the hard way it's really tough to roll it and keep it lit .. ;)

On a serious note, this year, as I have done a few times in the past, I will be visiting the St Louis Jefferson Barracks VA facility .. bringing a guitar and a small PA system, with which I will feebly regale whoever wanders in and out of the visitors room I am allowed to set up in .. I'll strum a few songs, but mostly play musical requests provided by the Vets that are there .. Thanksgiving, is sadly, another Holiday that many spend alone and I think we all know how depressing a Hospital environment can be .. although a few friends and distant relations have indicated I was welcome to attend their gathering, I always feel like the odd man out ..

The Holidays, as I know I've mentioned in the past, are a hard time for me ..

For those that fall into a similar state of mind, or perhaps just want to volunteer, there are always places that would appreciate help during Thanksgiving or other Holidays .. and those that you help will be greatly thankful .. and you will gain a little deposit to the Karma Bank as well as a good feeling for having done something selfless .. :)

How ironic that you mentioned this, because I just got off the phone making arrangements for service to folks for our Thanksgiving this year......A monastery in St. Augustine, St. Francis is sponsoring and my son & his family and hubby and I will be available for whatever is needed.
Have always wanted to do this, and am feeling very blessed that we can!
Actually, it isn't ironic at all since the Holidays are indeed a lonely time for a lot of folks!

Well Ginny's 2nd day without a stinkie. I only have a few bruises but I'll live. I keep trying to get her to try other flavors, I have a lot of good ones, but she is a stubborn slavian. She is just sticking to her 7 leaves at 3mg. That's fine because IDK if you remember when you first started vaping how it makes you cough but once you get used to vapor instead of smoke it's fine. I tried to get her to use more nic but she doesn't want to do that either.

That's fantastic!!! 3 mg is so low, just keep letting her know that higher nic won't hurt her, and if she's craving a cig, that can help. maybe she'll let you up it. Did you mention that you started out higher and went down to 3 mg?? I'm soooooooooo proud of her!!! Give her a huge hug from all of us!!
