Just popping in my head to say "Hello" and to make sure that Debadoo and Kenna didn't disappear amidst all the rainfall that they had. Yes, you guys passed it on to us over here.

I was busier than a one legged man in an ... kicking contest out here until yesterday. All of that came to an abrupt halt once the storming started yesterday afternoon. Weather events can seem a little dramatic out here since there is basically nothing to stop the wind and being almost on top of the Gulf of Mexico. Before I came to work yesterday, I was up on the levee checking out the surf, and it was mad as hell. Not too long after that, the rain starting coming down. The wind was kicking even before the rain started. I went to supper last night dressed in full rain suit. :w00t:

It stormed all night long last night. We lost power multiple times. We lost Internet and Cable TV. (Welcome to Grand Isle) Couldn't get diddly done except packing parts without Internet. Instead, I watched weather last night... it was pretty fascinating. Those helicopters tied down on the flight line were rocking. We doggone near paddled back to the apartments last night. We couldn't get a parts truck last night either as Hwy 1 was closed at the locks due to water being over the road.

Right now we are basically cut off from the rest of civilization. They closed Hwy 1 at the locks after 5 due to high tide and being impassable with water. All I can say is that water better go somewhere before Wednesday and time for me to come home.

Glad everybody is safe and sound. Hugs to those of you are are not feeling well. Hugs to everybody just because I can! :D

We had a lady at work that was in her 70s. When they'd ask her if she had anything to add when she being interviewed for jury duty years ago she looked right at the defendant and said "I don't know fer sure but, that dude looks guilty as hell". Not only did she get dismissed but, she never even got called again.
I agree with Iffy and think of jury duty as just that, a duty.

... after ya crunch/smash 'em and then add 'em to any veggie stock ya make fer soups!

But alas, it's a rare event when I can find decent (tasty) fresh asparagus in da markets anymore. Bought a tray of white ones last month... what an expensive disappointment.
I read about saving the stalks for vegetable stock but can't see using cold storage space on the chance that someday I'll feel like making some for the first time ever.

The skinny fresh asparagus I get at Food Lion tastes great to me. Expensive as heck, but delicious. Wasn't good at all until I learned the snap trick.

Good morning, porchers

http://www.bbc.com/news/health-34615621

my life is over...

Wait a few weeks and there will probably be another study to refute this one. Or some wizard of smart will come up with some weird vegetable that will reverse all bad effects...

Done at the doc. I'll get the results on Thursday. Looked OK from what I could see but, what do I know. :)

Got you on the prayer list. Glad you made it through today ok. Hoping it's good news from the doc on Thursday.

Ugh, well, at least you're not being run ragged doing work! Yeah, weather is pretty fascinating unless you gotta be out in it doing stuff. You be careful out there!

Talking about asparagus made me decide to steam some and put it on the Freschetta pizza that just came out of the oven.

Kind of a waste of the asparagus flavor... it gets completely overwhelmed and I can't even taste it.

Speaking of store-bought pizza: what is the tolerance that's allowed for variation from stated package weight? Weighing is something I normally do only with coffee, but for some reason I decided to weigh this pizza after I took it out of the freezer. Weight was 1 pound 9.3 ounces. Package says it's 1 pound 10.11 ounces, so the actual weight was less than 97% of the stated weight.

Hey, you over there! Yeah, you! I can hear what you're thinking. Whattayamean it's weird to weigh a frozen pizza?

I've long been a proponent of eating junk food and other foods supposedly not good for you. I maintain its for the betterment of the human race. We have to start mutating to allow us to consume these non-healthy foods so when such time comes we can't produce enough healthy food we can go on. Someone has to start it. :D

I think your logic is skewed. If we eat all the stuff with preservatives, we'll last as long as Twinkies.

Don't you just love weather. It's just interesting.

Oh, I LOVE watching weird weather. I always have since I was a kid. It's always been fascinating to me.

Debra, sounds exciting! At least you got power and internet back, and a break from being extra busy.

I really didn't miss the power or the television. I did miss the Internet a little bit, but watching the weather was a lot more fun.

Wow Roto! Sounds exciting. Glad to know you are safe. I love storms...provided I'm not out in a boat, and am safe and secure indoors.

I LOVE the weather here on the island. For some reason, I especially love it when it's raining.

Stranded with these guys? BWAHAhahahahahaha........I have a hard and fast rule. I don't play with people I have to work with. Not only that, but these guys are like my brothers anyway. I'm just one of the crew

Maybe all the guys are married? ChopDoc says he is.

Don't make me tell you about ChopDoc........just don't. :censored: He's the poop stirrer around here, and he LOVES it!! The other guy is married. My boss is a confirmed bachelor, at least that's what he says. He's always talking about how he wants a little Asian girl anyway. Naw, these guys are like my extended family. Anything more??? Naw.........I think we'd all be sick. :pervy:

Be safe Roto. Hope the roads clear so you can avoid the 8-H (Hurricane hinders heli helper heading home to hug hound.)

Good morning all! Feeling better, going to handling class tonight with Geordi, his sister and his breeder. Can't wait to see what mod and tank she got!

Good morning porchers and porchettes!

Wow, someone/thing musta invaded my head...I've been waking up very early ( for me) for well over a week now. ( well, part of the reason was the evil woman on the second floor changed her work hours so did her morning stomping very early) I'd set the alarm for 8:00 cuz I'm going shopping at 10:00 a.m........

so, in reflecting, SHE'S the one who changed my sleeping/waking hours!SHE CONTROLLED ME!!!!:D

Maybe soon I'll wake up at a civilized hour..like 10:00 or 11:00........;)
