Committing a criminal or politically motived act or any other kind of act, while claiming "religion" does not make it in fact religious. However, I'm thinking that regardless of the true motive behind the act, the word evil applies.

You realize, of course, I am simply citing History, not defending it .. the question is "If your beliefs are strong enough, how far are you willing to go .. ? " .. religion has been the driving force behind much, if not all, of Human History ..

If one set of people interprets a religion's scriptures to mean one thing, while others derive a totally different set of beliefs and behavioral standards from the same body of scriptures, then there must be a parting of the ways. Those who wish to take the world back to their interpretation of 1000 AD or 1830 AD or 32 AD sociological and cultural mores usually are the rejected splinter of the larger group. Those who justify violations of just laws and preach hatred then lose the privilege of religious freedom, and must be deemed a hate group.

Hello Porchers ... haven't been around much for a couple days. Yesterday was long babysit the grandkid. Today was my son's birthday. So we spent the day with him, his wife, and of course Miles too. Drove out to Amish Country and had a wonderful buffet/smorgasbord place. Miles was really enjoying his pieces of scrambled eggs and pieces of french toast.

From what I can remember catching up here:

Robert - yikes what you and your wife have gone through w/ that hospital. I was cheering for you when you gave the staff the 'what-fors' and demanded your wife be moved. Good for you. Better for your wife.

Roto - oh my! Hope the knowns are brought under control. And the to be determined ... proves to be nothing of great concern.

Paris - having lost someone near and dear because of this Islamic extremists/terror/terrorist/whatever activities and wars ... my heart really goes out the those folks in Paris. Just absolutely awful.

As to what to do ... I'm just not smart enough to come up w/ the answer. Just hope, wish, and pray our world leaders, not just our leader, can put on their really big-boy pants and just stop talking and come to together and apply the forces / actions required to destroy it. Just seems to me, it can't be 90% the US fighting back ... really each of the power-player free countries has to have significant skin in the game for it to succeed.

Just for informational, factual History ..

ISIS was al Qaeda in Iraq, before changing their name .. a radical, anti-Western militant group devoted to establishing an independent Islamic State in that region .. the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) .. it is a sincere, carefully considered commitment to returning civilization to a seventh-century legal environment, and ultimately to bringing about the apocalypse ..

Yes, it has attracted psychopaths and adventure seekers, drawn largely from the disaffected populations of the Middle East and Europe .. But the religion preached by its most ardent followers derives from coherent and learned interpretations of Islam .. pretending that it isn’t actually a religious group, with theology that must be understood to be combatted, has already led the United States to underestimate it ..

The Islamic State regards the Koran as absolute perfection .. this ideology evolved thru bad government, the shifting social history, and the perceived humiliation of living in lands valued only for their oil ..

This gave rise to the extreme zealots we now see .. who, essentially, have decided to revive traditions that have been dormant for hundreds of years ..

If we look back at our own History, many parallels exist .. one example, every island Columbus landed on, he planted a cross, claiming ownership for the Catholic Church and declaring the Native population as Idolators, allowing him to essentially do whatever necessary to gain their obedience to the Church .. and the cruelties inflicted on the Native population were as horrendous or more so than what we see in todays World .. there are many, many examples of Christianity and cruelty based on interpretations ..

Even closer to today, I could cite a laundry list of White Supremacist Radical Christian atrocities that have happened in our own Country .. starting with a guy by the name of McVeigh ..

DISCLAIMER .. This is simply factual information .. no slam on anyone or anything anyone may believe .. but in order to fight an enemy, you must first know your enemy ..

So Mission NOT accomplished?

I don't see a word in any of this conversation about defending history. What does that even mean? It's not part of the conversation other than the fact that using history as a facade for the events of the current day is as deceptive as using religion for same. The truth is found behind the facade. The rest is an excuse to indulge in evil acts, & crime.

Well guys until the rather heated politcal debate calms some I think I am going to vacation on the front porch. This old cats nerves can't take it and the FDA of doom is enough to put me in panic attack mode without this and the coming holidays added to it.

Warm kittyhugs

/me slinks off to the front porch
Sorry, Myrany. I'm tired of it, too. G'Nite, y'all! Tomorrow is a new day!

Whether the terrorists were foreign or domestic is irrelevant, the policy of appeasement and the fear of the perception of anti islam has contributed to the view that france is an easy target. Im just saying that the french government could have nipped this kind of thing in the bud early.

I've heard this said before...
Oh, yes. About our own country. And every other country that has accepted refugees.

Rather than point out the error of our ways, how about seeing if we can come up with a solution.
Bombing them to the stone age will just allow them to say "We were right about those imperialists!! Give us the same weapons to 'defend ourselves'".
So... anyone have a good solution? I know I don't.

Violence begets violence, hatred begets hatred. And fear is a tool used to manipulate the masses. An endless cycle thru human history.
Beam me up Scotty there is no intelligent life on this planet.
If there is other intelligent life out there and they have observed us why would they want to contact us?

Bottom line here is that what we say here is not going to matter one whit in the larger picture of what if anything is done about it...........

The latest atrocities pretty much guarantees Jeb Bush to be president though....
A sad state of things when we choose our leaders out of fear.

The cries of keep us safe come back after we have been whining about the current security processes. Humans... sheesh.

Yep take the Battle Of Jerico. God ordered the Israelites to kill all who did not flee before them. Women, old, children and even animals...
They kind of left out that part in my Sunday school as a child....
in my youth, up until my teen years, i was trained as a hellfire & brimstone preacher

then i discovered sex, drugs & rock'n'roll philosophy and world religion

I dont care if they are muslims, christans, scientologists, or disciples of bob, if we make it didficult, dangerous, and distasteful to attack, fewer attacks will happen. If we leave the door open, flies will get in.
