In my husbands last days he was confined to a nursing home. A young man, whom we had helped years before, when my husband was the director of a juvenile drug rehab.....came a long distance to visit him. When the nurse came in to attend to my husbands needs.....I could see in his face the shame and humiliation of being seen in that state.
While I think it's wonderful that Matt's wife is there, caring for her mother......I, personally would never post a pic for all the world to see, that essentially shreds and strips away her last remnants of pride and dignity. Does anyone want to be remembered that way ? Not I.

I publicly proclaim that any and all photos of my waning time on earth be shared if they demonstrate and highlight the love and devotion of my loved ones.
Do I want a pic posted illustrating my involuntary leakage... no! But, Matt's sharing is ever so much about love, tenderness and respect!!!

Are the ads showing a smoking former cheerleader wither and die before our eyes on TV PSAs cruel? No, she wanted to warn and awaken the rest of us. Ummm...
I don't want to die, but it will happen. My dignity will be a non-issue if I'm in Doree's mom's situation. If I fall over without their ordeal, I and my family will have another blessing to be thankful for, regardless of circumstances!
BTW, I do have a DNR with only a couple of stringent caveats. Patty and my daughters know well my wishes...

You may not have any idea how much your photo impacted my day. But, so help me, it was beautiful and touching!
At the nursing home with mom. Doree is feeding her lunch. Her mom isn't eating well but, she's eating well today. Maybe it's the "nurse" feeding her. A nice Christmas Eve if for no other reason.
You guys are the only ones I even feel comfortable sharing these things with. Love you all.
Matt...Doree feeding her beloved Mom...as her Mom used to feed her when she was a wee one and couldn't do it herself..is a beautiful memory for Doree and you..and . as you said that she was eating better with her daughter feeding her, speaks volumes to me of the love shared.
The expression on Doree's face is priceless.

I was a co caregiver with one of my sisters for our mother in her final years. She suffered from dementia. I worked over the net with software engineering and testing so I could relocate to help my sister care for her.
It was very trying and sometimes very rewarding.
It did prepare me for her final release though as I knew she did not like living as she was.

Well i guess it was my turn, kids took me to see the new star wars movie, and on the way out of the theater i stepped off the curb and hit the pavement. Hurt both wrists from catching my fall, right cheek and eye hit, so bruised and road rashed, but nothing broken (that i know of) and im ok.

Today in Suncrest WA and still snowing. White Christmas.
And here tonight it was so warm we had to open the deck door and windows to cool off the house after making dinner. Been a nice Christmas Eve, daughter, son, his wife, and Miles were all here for dinner. They're all staying over so we'll start Christmas morning w/ a nice breakfast together. My son makes an awesome quiche ... hoping that's what he'll be doing in the morning.
One door closes and another opens ... hopefully it'll be the start of a great new year for you.
If any one asks about it ... just tell them they should see what the Storm Trooper looks like.
