Just got out of the orthopedic, everything is fine, should heal normally, just will hurt for a while, like i need more hurt.

That's a relief. I'm glad you didn't get any surprises to add to it.

We served up about 400 meals yesterday, handed out a good amount of gifts to the kids .. I set up a small PA and ran some Karaoke for the kids (and a few adults) to sing along with .. later, I tagged along as some delivered gift bags to around 300 older folks that live alone and some nursing home residents .. it was quite gratifying .. many that were served or got a gift bag were touched to tears, and many stated "It is just so nice to be thought of .. " ..

I have to admit, I don't get much, if any, contact on a regular basis with kids, and to witness the joy and happiness even a small act of kindness elicits made it difficult to not get choked up on the spot ..

While I don't discuss my personal medical issues all that much, the day ended up being "The best of times, the worst of times .. " .. last night, around 10 PM, I began to experience some fairly severe chest pains, bad enough to go to the ER, since even a couple nitro pills did not seem to help .. thankfully, they determined I was not having another heart attack, kept me around for observation for a while and suggested I schedule a cath ASAP .. on my GP's advice, I stopped taking Plavix (blood thinner) last year, but I still have a supply, so the ER Doc seemed to think it might be a good idea to go back on them until I had further testing ..

As with anything, I prefer to remain as positive as I can, although I will admit I don't look forward to it .. and, oddly, it's not the procedure that bothers me at all, having been thru it more than once in the past .. it's the time in the ICU with a clamp on my leg and having to either have a catheter to wee wee or have a Nurse assist and wee wee in a bottle .. on the flip side, it's fairly easy to get a morphine drip .. :)
It sounds like you had a wonderful day. Almost.

I'm so glad it wasn't a heart attack. Please, get that taken care of quickly. And, make sure to let us know what they find out.

Well, I did it again. Talking with the neighbor over the fence about some project work and put my foot in my mouth during the conversation. Luckily we have known each other for a long time and we look over trivial things.

It is just a fact of life - at one time or another you are going to put your foot in your mouth - no avoiding it, but what you can avoid is making sure you are not wearing steel toed spiked boots when you do it (OUCH)... :w00t::D
Another thing that can make it worse is if there are farm animals on your side of the fence and you haven't watched where you were stepping just prior. Er.. I mean... so I've heard.

If you say something that causes another to get upset with you, walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when they decide to come after you, you're a mile away and they've got to come after you barefoot.
That'll work as long as you remember to take his car keys as well.

Better yet... walk about 5+ miles in my shoes. Because walking a mere mile in my shoes... won't matter if I'm barefoot or not, I'll catch up to you rather quickly. Better grab my boots (all 4 pairs) AND my sneakers!

The old sniper (or marksman) saying: "You can run all you want, but you'll just die tired.":headbang:

It's too bad that for me being as old as I feel... I can still outrun kids that are well below me in age. Sometimes 15 - 18 years younger than me. Now that I haven't smoked for over a year now.

Oh man... I wish they would have captured me on camera when I worked for the Department of Corrections. Emergency radio calls would come up, and POOF! I'd appear out of nowhere with everyone asking me how the heck I got there as fast as I did.

Good morning Good Folks!

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and very Happy Holidays.

It's been quite a while since I posted on ECF, got a lot of catching up to do... so figured I'd start with the Back Porch.

Wet Willie "Drippin' Wet" was my first album - Dark Side of the Moon was one of my early ones tho. (how 'bout that for a contrast :thumb:) Still have those -and- Walsh's The Smoker You Drink the Player You Get also! (luv the cover art on that one). Joe Walsh is one heck-of-a guitarist and has always been one of my fav musicians... have several Eagles LPs, and Walsh's "So What" too. Life's Been Good To Me So Far - but right now I have the - All Night Laundry Mat Blues.

(having a fit of nostalgia here, so y'all bear with me ;))

I was just thinking the other day:

My Marantz 6110 turntable is ~40 years old, and needs a new drive belt -probably a new cartridge and needle too. Gonna try and make 2016 the year I finally fix it up. Also still have a Marantz 3200 pre-amp and Dynakit Stereo 70 tube amp (circa 1959 - that baby looks cool with the top off in a semi-darkened room). The pots, slide controls, and selector knobs on the pre-amp all need cleaning - crackle when you move them... but otherwise it works.

Dang, just talking about it makes me want to go drag it all out right now! I've still got my turntable, amp, and bunches and bunches of LP's from the 60's and 70's. I should get rid of them but every once in awhile I flip through the album covers and so many memories coming flooding back.

May the Walsh be with you :D

Nice to see you again 'bean' ... hope things have settled down for you and you can hang on the porch w/ us again regularly.

he, he ... my sister had one just like that.

first album bought: The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan

first concert: was either Jimi Hendrix or Janis Joplin at the Electric Factory in Philly. Can't remember which ... but then there's a lot I don't remember from those days.

wouldn't work - my neighbor wears size 13's...:blush:
Wouldn't work for me either. That's 3 sizes too small. You know what they say about guys with big feet.... they wear big shoes. I can't remember who I stole that one from.

I couldn't outrun many kids even when I was one, and even though I was fairly fit at one time. I was able to develop some endurance and the ability to anticipate, but raw foot speed is more a gift than something than can be developed.

I was able to develop some endurance

Endurance was my key also - used to run 5 and 10 mile cross country races - held the county record for several years - now I am lucky to run to the other side of the house (maybe in a fire I could - extra incentive you know)... :D

That's really cool, Phil. Glory days! I ran the mile in indoor track my senior year of HS and because of how hard I worked to achieve it, I was quite proud of my quite non-exceptional best time of 5:07. I really hoped to get under 5:00 but broke an ankle playing YMCA basketball (which the track coach had specifically forbidden... he knew, though, how it happened.)

Tennis is the only sport at which I claim past proficiency. Still hoping to get out there and play again but I think I'll have to get back surgery before I can try.

Every vaporversary, whether mine or someone else, brings an apreciative grin; as does yours.

85 out today. I don't care what you say, that's warm! :w00t:

Indian summers are for autum. What would we call one in winter?

That's one fine setup. Nice pic!

As I know you probably know .. ;) .. "back in the day" it was not uncommon for Promoters to Bundle Up multi Artists / Bands on Tour .. the acts played their most popular hits .. one tragic result of this practice was "The Day The Music Died" ..

No!No! No! it is NOT dead! Not as long as us discerning music lovers aren't!:D

My first concerts were either classical or folk, don't remember the order. Saw Peter, Paul and Mary, the Chad Mitchell Trio, the Garden State Symphony. First concert attended with peer transport rather than adult transport: Jefferson Airplane, I think.

Best live performer I've ever seen was Joe Cocker. Saw him twice: first time was in 1969 or 1970 at UMass Amherst and the second time was 25 to 30 years later at Walnut Creek in Raleigh.
my first concert was neil diamonds hot august nights at the greek. my first album was american pie. guess that make me a youngster here:lol:

First concert…
Allman Brothers with Vanilla Fudge opening for them at Peabody Auditorium in Daytona Beach. Seated about 750 or so. Great concert. Just before they released Live at the Forum.
Second concert…
Pink Floyd at the Orange Bowl during their Dark Side of the Moon tour.

Allman Brothers, I was about 10.
Pink Floyd, maybe 14 or so.

Wow...just wow!!!

For me - it was Three Dog Night and it was later followed up with Grand Funk Railroad (the fences got tore down that night and they almost cancelled the concert)...

Oh my...the sweet memories you all are bringing back to me:)
